Oh Ana. You have to make everything so difficult. If you had taken your other 8 break point chances, it wouldn't have been such a mess. :o

Then Razzano led 5-2 and CHOKED :o

What a fight by Ana and she deserves this win :yeah: I agree S4E, it was very annyoing how she screams and pumps her fist after EVERY point she wins... :fiery:

Virginie  that DF & that easy forehand puttaway mishit when she served for the match at 5-3 proved costly.

Razzano is not choke here... simple and clear,
Ana is new WTA 3rd set queen:

- this is 11 Ana's 3-setters win in the row against TOP30 players
(7 of this 11 is vs TOP10, and in 5 she falled one Break in 3rd but still won )

- this is 33 Ana's wins in the row after winning 1st set
(unbeaten since march 2007!)

DF when serving for the match IS a sign of choking for me. ;)It's only one point (she lose that game with 15). Ana won 1st set 6-1 and won 5 games in the row in 3rd... so that is only question of level of her game and Razzano is less important part of this story... it's much more about Ana!

Also, when we talking about stats i'm forget to present one important thing about Ana's impressive closer/finisher winning strikes:
Razzano is not choke here... simple and clear,

(unbeaten since march 2007!)
- since April 2007 Ana not lose any set after 5-5 score and todays 3rd set
is 11 set in the row which Ana won after 5-5 result
(7 of this 11 wins she won 7-5 and rest in tie-breaks)

What a weird match. I had it one in our meeting room with the sound off but i watched most of the 1st set and was stunned at how well Ivanovic was playing. Then i put my head down and did some writing and when i looked the the screen again it was 1-6, 6-2, 5-2 to Razzano. I started watching again and Ana won.

I am her good luck charm. She should take me on tour and ask me to marry her so she is lucky in life (and in bed) for the rest of her life :hearts:

Keep going girl!

The important thing is that she could avoid the upset, and she has time to get in form.
It's never easy against Razzano.

Jan 8th, 2008, 08:24 AM
It really was a choke, buy I don't think she really deserved to be that far up in the 3rd set anyway, they were playing pretty similar but Ana just made a few more errors in important times.

Funny when Virginie stopped for the ANNNOOYYINNG Serbian fans to stop yelling.

But she missed some easy shots when she was 5-2 up, then decided to go for shots which she didn't need to, tried to press to hard, and ultimately these things lost her the match, as well as Ana playing a bit more consistently.

Some people not giving Ana enough credit. Razzano did get nervous, but give credit to Ana for fighting to the very last ball. She was 2-5 15-30 down. Some other players would have gotten nervous about the possibile humiliation of a loss like this, but she kept going on, realy goin for her shots and putting pressure on Razz. Ana displayed fighting quality, and didn't win this match primarily because Razzano choked, as implied by some comments.

I thought it was a very good match. Ana didn't play that badly, even when she was losing. Razzano was great in the second set and most of the third. She was bossing on her serve, and some errors start to creep in Ana's game.

However, Ana showed again what a great fighter she is. How many times has she been able to come back from a significant deficit? You can never rule her out in the latter parts of the match, especially when she's losing, cause she always finds a way to make it very tough for her opponents.

OK here is my rant. Those annoying serbian fans that seem to come to all of Jelena's and Ana's matches really piss me off.Hanging out in that big group always yelling and chanting a dressed up like they are at the soccor yelling in between serves and just being loud and vulgar.

In terms of the match I was not impressed with Ana's game her forehand was not as impressive as I have imaged it would be but I was impressed with her toughness and fight. I think she is underated in that department. I was really hoping Virginie was going to win just to shut up that annoying bunch of serbain fans.

I was a couple rows in front of the serbian crowd and i didn't think they were THAT annoying a little unnecessary at times sure but maybe it's because i was cheering for Ana.. but i found it to be a great atmosphere. First time i've seen her live :hearts: it was a lot of fun.

A really good match being that it was only round 2! Virgine played really well in all three sets, but Ana has grown so much mentally over the past years, she really held her nerve and stayed tough :clap2: Alot of UE from Ana though, especially in the beginning of the 3rd set :tape:. Good luck against Kata!

So what happen with all three girls which beat TOP5 Ana in off-season (Ana have 0-3 in EXOs)???

Szavay played her FIRST new season match vs. WTA#119 Fedak and LOSE.
Dementieva played her FIRST new season match vs. WTA#97 Arvidsson and LOSE.
Peng played her FIRST new season match vs. WTA#59 Olaru and LOSE.

ANA played her FIRST new season match vs. WTA#30 Razzano and WON.

(unbeaten since march 2007!)

At this moment nobody has more than the 33 wins.
Davenport is 2nd.

Only problem is that Ana not always gets a 3rd set. She can fight back being down in the 3rd, but if she's down in the 2nd and lost the 1st one already, then she can barely win a game.
Against Peng and Safina are the only ones I can think of now that are exceptions.
She's also the queen of making matches harder than needed and still win it.

Of course I'm happy with the win, but I rather saw it easier.
Almost needed to save MP's again.

Btw, she's 4th seed and not 3rd (thread title)

Yay! The real Ana is back, not that Hong Kong no-show!

1st set wow! That was Ana, but still not as good as she was again Kuzzie 1st set YEC.

If she can hold that form the whole way through a match she will be tough to beat.

Giving away the second set? That's Ana, Miss Inconsistant. But she pulled though, hopefully it will give her confidence in herself and that will bring even better form!

Good luck against Kata, show them why you are #4!
