Question: Is Justine gets the 70 points award for "reaching" the quarters, if she lose to Kanepi/Arvidsson?

That's a bit ridiculous that Henin will be in the semis with one win over Kanepi/Arvidsson while some players must beat two top 20 players to access the quarters.

Yes.

I believe no, she is not. If Justine doesn't win a match she will receive 1 point. But anyway it ain't happening in this Universe

What a joke... three potential opponents that can knock Justine out before the semis are either down with injuries or got beaten unexpectedly... :tape:

Oh well... there's still hope for a Justine-Ana semis.... I pray nothing happens to both of them!

Sydney has too many damn qualifiers, that's why they have such a weak draw.

You can't say Sydney had a weak draw. It's just all those retirements and some unexpected losses.

this may be bad news for henin, as shes come here for match practice. her next match will most likely be sofia looking at the score in that match, and she will be lucky to get a few games (no offence to sofia). then she could meet ana who could catch her cold having not played a hard competitive match. i guess we shall see but its bad luck for lucie and henin.

What the fuck ... Justine doesn't need do to anything and now she's in the quarter-final.

Vlad Tepes
Jan 8th, 2008, 10:34 AM
I actually think this is good news for Justine, she'll only play for 2 1/2 weeks instead of 3, thus the chances of a burn-out for the SF/F of the AO have decreased.

oh i agree, in 2004 she had a walkover in sydney, went on to win sydney and AO. in 2006 she also had a walkover in sydney, won the tourny and got to the AO final.

AnnaK_4ever
Jan 8th, 2008, 10:49 AM
this is a walkover not a bye, she will get her points

from WTA rules:
If a player or team receives a walkover in the 1st round, and there is no Alternate or Lucky Loser to take the spot, or if a player or team receives a walkover in a subsequent round without having yet played a match, the walkover will be treated as a bye for ranking data purposes.

Vlad Tepes
Jan 8th, 2008, 10:53 AM
I didn't know that, thanks for sharing, AnnaK. Still, Justine only has to get through Kanepi in order to grab Tier II SF points
