How far does Monica has to go at Stanford to get the number 3 rank?

Did she play Stanford last year...too lazy to check for myself and I cant remember. I know she played LA and San Diego...

She needs to get to the final now since she can no longer beat Justine in the quarters (quality points).

You probably looked under "Projected WTA Rankings," which would show her not having the points count...

Monica is definitely defending 108 points this week. She will need 150 points to get the #3 ranking...which as Jarrett points out she will only get if she makes the final. This is her only window to get #3 most likely as Monica has 867 points to defend up to the US Open and Jennifer only has 481 points to defend.

Venus, um I have a little wee favor to ask. Could you maybe just let Monica beat you in the semi finals? Just because that way your arch enemy Jennifer Capriati will fall below Monica in the rankings, while your ranking will stay the same? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!!!!! I BEG YOU BEG YOU BEG YOU!!!!!

But then she has tons of points to defend in the next couple of weeks since she beat Martina twice last year. I don't see her getting the #3 ranking soon.:sad:

she has the ability to get the number 3 ranking here with points to spare b/c doesn't she get bonus points if she were to beat venus (number1?) and then going into the other tournies, we know she won't be seeded number 1 so she still has a chance to beat the number 1 in those tournies also. But when you think about it, we all know that the number 1 seed from this point on will be a williams, and that is a lot of work that seles cappy and others have not had any luck in doing. beating the number 1!

She beat a lot of top players last year and she isn't playing Canada, which means Jen will be seeded ahead of her at the US Open.

Monica's defending 108, and is 41 behind for 149. That's a moderate Tier II semi. The problem is HOLDING the #3 rank. Monica defends way more than Jenn before the US Open, AND for the year as a whole. This is very important for US Open seeding purposes. Number i, 2, 3 at the US Open is almost locked in stone.

Serena's too far ahead for anyone but Venus to catch. And Serena would have to not play at all. Venus is too far ahead to fall below #3, and again, she'd have to not play. Lindsay's protected rank is #3, so she'll almost undoubtedly be seeded there at the US Open.

Worse, Jenn's playing Los Angeles, where she defends nothing.
If she gets 117 points, that means Monica has tomake up 800 points before New Haven.

But then the worm turns. Monica's didn't play New Haven last year, and the US Open is her 18th result.
As long as she doesn't go out early in California or Cananda, she defends nothing at the US. But more AFTER the US.

So Monica, for the year, is 460 behind Jenn. Easy enough to make up with superior play. The #4 seed for the US Open though, is probably long gone.

I don't think Monica is playing canada and I think I heard Jennifer wasn't playing New Haven.

monica will lose 199 points for not playing montreal, jenn will lose 148 for not playing new haven, but shes going to play in LA, she was smart enough to know that not playing will hekp her in two ways:
1) She will have an extra week of rest...
2) The points she will lose will not come off till the next week, and US Open seedings will come out that week using her ranking that week which will probably be #3...
so shes pretty much got the number 4 seed locked up...

Monica is gonna be seeded 5th... sadly... but she can get the year end number 3 ranking if she makes a good showing this summer, esp at the US Open.

but monica is always playing Canada. its her first win after the long lay-off, she has said it has a special place in her heart.
anyhow, we shouldnt try to project too far ahead, one day at a time. she may manage to beat venus this week and win the whole damn thing. :)
