Hey all, as I mentioned earlier I was at the JB Classic this year. It was a great 4 days and a total eye opener. I will start first with my impressions of the players followed by match by match comments.

Sharapova - her usual diva self. I saw her walking the grounds a few times and each time she just refused autographs. Yuri looked really unfriendly as well, giving the fans a look whenever they asked for autographs.

Venus - Great personality. Im sure you guys saw her dancing to the "venus" music after her match win. She didnt give autographs that much too, but she replied to some of the fans when they said "good luck" or "bye" to her. During the doubles finals, she even did a few "racket tossing" tricks to keep the crowd entertained. Her mum was really friendly as well, saw a few fans having a chat with her.

Dementieva - BY FAR the nicest player EVER. Signed tons of autographs & even allowed us to take photos with her. I was waiting for her outside the changing room after her match & thought she was rushing for an interview with the media, she signed autographs for us and even told the bodyguards to allow us to take pictures with her. I've become a super big fan of hers after meeting her in person. I've heard about how nice she is, but seeing it is a whole new matter :) Mommy Vera was pretty friendly as well.

Ana - was pretty friendly, though she didnt give much autographs because she lost her matches & was really moody after that. I waited about 1 hr for her after her match to get an autograph. She was hiding in the locker room because she didnt really wanna sign after losing in 3 sets to Elena. Finally she came out & she tried to rush through the fans, but I guess our efforts moved her & she stopped to sign for all of us.

Anna - didnt get to see much of her in the tournament because most of her matches were the middle or last matches so I couldnt wait for her at the practice courts. She was pretty nice on court though, sign autographs even though she lost in doubles & to sharapova. During the doubles, she served 3 DFs in her first service game & could hardly get a first serve in her second service game. When she was 0-30, she hit an ace & raised her arm in triumph.

Michelle - Friendly, sunny little girl. She's the smallest and youngest out of all the girls but boy does she hit well. Got her autograph twice and even spoke a few words to her, wishing her luck. However, I must say she overdoes her grunts. Believe it or not, Michelle tops Venus & Sharapova in the grunts department.

Caroline - What can I say, personality all the way. Whenever she felt a call was against her, she would not hesistate to give the umpire a piece of her mind. During her match against Michelle, she was 5-1 up in the second set, serving for the match. Everybody cheered for Michelle, urging her to go on then suddenly Caro stopped her preparation for her serve & turned around & shouted "what about me?" Everyone had a great laugh. When I met her after her practice session with Ana, she was really nice & signed autographs for the fans.

Hantuchova - She was only there for one day. Didnt get to see much of her, as I only saw her walking in to the locker rooms once. She's really quite model-like in person, tall, lean & with nice flowing hair. She seemed pretty quiet and was nice enough to sign autographs even though she lost to Anna in her only match.

Peng Shuai - First 2 times I saw her walking around aftr practice, she refused to give autographs & I was thinking "B*T*H", acting like a hot shot. The last time I saw her after practice, she seemed like a different person, signing autographs for everyone with a smile. That's probably due to her making finals of the silver group.

I realised that the grunts of Sharapova & Venus are not that bad in person, or maybe they were just not at full power yet

Hope you guys enjoyed this so far. Will be back with match reports soon!

so would you say Venus is... charismatic?

I guess so :D I've always thought Venus was a better person than Serena in terms of giving credit. During the winner's speech, she gave Maria credit & talked about Women' rights & stuff.

Maybe your the bitch.

By the way glad you had fun. Looking forward to possibly going to the US Open this year for my first big tennis tournament.

Was there not a video floating around here last year of Michelle acting like a bit of a prima donna? And I have to say her grunting is extremely irritating. But she's young so maybe will grow out of it.

Venus & Caro was a great team! They were often smiling & talking to each other. Caro made quite a bit of errors, well so did Venus but Caro made more. Venus was often seen talking to her & smiling to her. So yup, I think Caro learned quite a bit playing with Venus :)

Typical Sharapova, relentless ass kissing from the likes of Tracy Austin have gone to her head. I don't even need to comment on that, because you should all know she's like that. Some people try to claim she's sweet and ditzy from her doodles - well that is clearly not what she's like in person. No time for her fans who spend day and night, tooth and nail idolising her. Never friendly when there are no Camera's around. I mean 'giving fans a LOOK' - that almost monstrous!!!

Ana being moody does not surprise me either... she does have 'spoil brat' written all over her, though she may just be an emotional girl.

Caro

Dementieva :hearts: She is a really sweet lady.

As for Venus :worship: A woman Class!!

She was also giving 'looks' - kind of like on a tennis court i imagine.

Look, your 'until the end of time' adoration/defense of Maria is sweet, but you have to be honest about this. YOU could have been one of those fans that she scowled at, simply asking for an autograph. She does not care about her fans, only money and media.

I don't think players are under an obligation to ALWAYS sign autographs but at the sametime you can hardly say it's her work place do not disturb. The only reason she has such a highly paid job and gets to play in front of arenas of people is because of fans who pay money to see tennis, making it a viable sport. They in essence create her profitable workplace.

here's my day 1 match comments

Sharapova/ Caroline

Sharapova won here, no surprise. However, Caro had quite a few chances, I believe there was twice she was 15-40 up on Sharapova's serve & just wasted the game away. She's still young is was overhitting on important points. Overall, she held her ground pretty well in the rallies but always just missed the last shot, usually hit long or wide. Caro actually hits her groundies pretty hard when you watch her in person.

Dementieva/Michelle vs Peng/Ana

This was all Dementieva & Michelle. They were making play with good shots while Peng & Ana were making errors. Not much to comment on this, the better team won. Its my first time watching Michelle play a full match though & all I can say is this girl has the hots to make it big. A few times she hit some really good groundies to help her team but that grunt has to go.

Anna/ Daniela

Daniela wasnt playing well from the start (maybe because she's sick). This whole match was about Anna. Anna was making Dani run all over the court & was bashing winners off both wings especially off her backhand side. Granted Dani made tons of errors as well, she was back to her "Im going to go for everything" style for some reason. The first set was pretty close with Dani wasting away a game after being 40-0 up on her own serve (typical Dani).

Thanks for the report. Was there as well. Last two days. I'll try to post the great pix from my brother's camera when I get the chance. And I do agree that ELENA is the nicest player EVER!!!! It's not just my opinion, but also the opinion of someone I met who has been working for the tournament for years. I've seen Elena at the US Open many times before but this is the only time I've had any sort of interaction with her. She was so nice and by far the most approachable. I finally have a picture with her! :bounce:  I have one with YURI too! :rocker2:  I was THIS CLOSE to finally getting one with Maria. Caught her in a bad mood though...she had just lost to Venus. Oh well next time hopefully. :p

thats great. Here day 2 match reports

Venus/ Peng

No prizes for guessing who dominated. Peng was making tons of errors but Venus was playing well. It was an eye opener to finally see Venus play live. Her serve & winners (especially forehands) were amazing when on, the balls were so fast, you could hardly see them. She's really very athletic & hits the balls so hard. You can actually see a difference in ball spin & speed when she hits against Sharapova (in finals). As mentioned, I thought peng was a total B*t*h at this pt of time & was glad Venus gave her a thrashing.

Venus/Caro vs Anna/Peng

Peng substituted for Dani because she pulled out due to some abdominal problems. Anyway, Anna/Peng was up 4-1 in the pro set (first to 10 games) but wasted away when Venus & Caro started playing better. Anna's serve was horrifying, hitting 3 DFs in a row in the first service game. This continued on to her second service game, not being able to hit any first serves & finally an ace, where she raised her arm in triumphed and the crowd cheered. Nothing really exciting that I remembered from this match except Anna's terrible serving when she served at least 5 aces the night before against Daniela.

Elena/ Ana

The most entertaining match & the first 3 setter so far. In the first set, Elena was hitting well while Ana errors, especially on the forehand side when she wanted to wack a winner. Elena got the only crucial break & won the first set. Its amazing watching Elena in person because her second serve looks like crap on TV but is really still quite fast in person. Her groundstrokes are a sight as well, you can literally see the spin because of the black wilson markings on the ball. I think Elena even hits harder than Sharapova in general. Second set saw Ana making a comeback with good forehand winners & Elena starting to miss quite a bit. The third set was exciting because Elena & Ana started playing better, thought not too many winners. Anyway, Ana was a break down & saved 2 (if im correct) MPs on her serve. However, Elena easily closed out the match on her next service game. I dont know if it was Ana not playing well, but I wasnt that impressed with her game live, her serve & forehand are not that fantastic compared to Elena or Venus.
