Wow, just wow!!!! This is such a great return to form for Jelena and an amazing comeback. She needs to play one other event after this one and she'll enter the rankings at least in the Top 600! Hopefully she will win a few matches in AO qualifying and start with an even higher ranking than that.

LMFAO @ the second set. Jelena lost 8 games in a row and was down 2-0 in the 3rd set and 30-0 on Muller's serve before she came back to win the final 6 games.

I thought she would finish the tank job, but she turned it around and fought back! GREAT job Jelena! :hearts: A main draw win! :D

Good luck next round vs Pennetta :hearts: That'll be her biggest test since the comeback, no doubt.

Jan 7th, 2008, 04:04 AM
Definitely did not expect a win after she went down 6-0, 2-0. It's times like this that you have to love Jelena's inconsistency. This time it worked out for the best.

I would be surprised if she were to get past Pennetta now. Although it would be great!:D

So she's 7-1 in her comeback with the only loss being a retirement.

Wow. Who'd have thunk it! And, all the articles prior to her comeback suggested she had been training hard for some time, but when she came back she said that was not the case. So, just imagine what she will be able to do once she gets back in the swing of things.

I know Tennis Australia couldn't have anticipated this, but it still, to me, looks like they gave her the cold shoulder. She *definitely deserved that wild card. Methinks they are holding a grudge for past events... :tape:

i would have given her a wildcard but to say they are holding grudge is a little hard to believe given they payed for her to fly to Australia, have been paying for her apartment in Melbourne for months and have provided her with a coach. she has been doing a lot of interviews exclusively with the tenis australia website so relationship seems fine.

Who did it go to? Gajdosova? That's bullshit. I never heard about that until now.

Jelena could have won this title, now does she need to withdraw to play qualifiers? Absolute crap actually. What have the other Australian girls done? Jelena has been in the top 5, won 5 titles, been in grand slam quarterfinals. That youth policy is just an excuse. Even if you erase Dokic's entire career and just include the past month, she's still had better scalps than some of those wildcard bagel girls.

Dokic through to second round in Hobart International

Australian Jelena Dokic has continued her strong come back to tennis with a three set win over Germany's Martina Muller in the first round of the Hobart international.

Dokic won the first set 6-4 but lost the second to love.

A short time ago she took out the third set 6 - 2.

But Dokic will not see out the tournament, she will head to Melboure after her second round match tomorrow to attempt to qualify for theAustralian Open.

Dokic says she should have been offered a wild card for the Grand Slam.

"I think I did deserve one based on my prior results," she said.

"I've worked hard for the last two and a half months and I think having the run here that I've had - I've beaten three players inside the top 70 - but it doesn't matter.

"I think, long term, the harder I'm made to work now, the easier it will be later."

But I think Gajdosova, an Australian player for 2 weeks, deserves her wildcard more because she beat Sugiyama. And she also did lose to world number 577 Jessica Moore at 25k Traralgon a few months ago.

Dokic goes one up

Hobart,07 January 2008
Tennis Australia

Jelena Dokic hammers a forehand in her win over Germany's Martina Muller.

Tennis Australia

Jelena Dokic won her first match against Germany’s Martina Muller at the Moorilla Hobart International this afternoon in just over 92 minutes.

In a closely contested first set, Dokic finally prevailed 6-4.

In the second set, Dokic went down 6-0 as she lost concentration. A string of unforced errors didn’t help her cause as she served six double faults, allowing the German to level.

After the match Dokic put the lapse down to tiredness. “I was getting tired in the match, it was a little bit hot out there and I’ve only played three matches.

“For me, coming off two years lay-off, it’s physically and mentally hard to keep going each day and that’s why I lost the second set.”

In the third, Dokic regained her composure, taking the set 6-2. “I really fought hard from two-love down in the third and I think I played some really good tennis to come back and win the big points in the third [set]. I think I played well.”

“It’s been an amazing run especially for the first week of the new year.”

Dokic will play Italy’s Flavia Pennetta who this morning despatched No.4 seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland.

not when she's winning and playing well and DESERVES WC.
she wanted to play qualies for confidence and matchplay she had enough from hobart alone.
And fact her chance of going far is ruined by AO qualies which is retarded

People are getting excited and saying Jelena is back just because she beat Muller?

Not just because she beat Muller. It's because after months of hard work, she has not only done the hard yards to qualify for a WTA maindraw, but she has strung 3 top 70 wins together in three days, and apart from the 8 games lost in a row against Muller, all have been very convincing. With these successive wins, it not only proves its no fluke, but will give Dokic the belief that if she continues in her comeback, she may again reach the elite of the game, as was NOT the case back in 2006.

Where'd you see footage? I wanna see it :)

I've seen pictures and her upper body looks fantastic, very lean and defined, but yes, her lower body still looks as though it needs work. But Jelena knows that I'm sure. Just imagine if she got to work on her conditioning and all round game a month earlier, she'd be beating these girls in less than an hour. She's still doind very well. Australia is very proud!

:bounce: Jelena's really back!

The whole WC thing is a bit screwed up. She should have a main draw WC, not necessarily at Gajdosova's expense but one of the others. Having played several matches in Hobart I'm not sure if she'll be able to make it far in AO qualies due to fatigue rather than lack of ability or desire.

This is a lot of tennis for Jelena. If she can just manage to get through todays match, then she will get a day off before qualies, and then if she can just get through qualies, then she will have a little more rest. She is going to be tired :o

I hope Jelena really can come back. I wish her loads of luck. :)

I really want her to play the AO, but ok, let's say she misses the AO, what would be next after Hobart?

That is what Im wondering too  I hope she sticks to lower tier WTA events. I really hope she doesn't play ITF events.

That would mean she'd have to rely on QWC or MDWC for those lower tier events...
