Has anyone else voted on the official WTA site for the "Sanex hero" for 2002 so far at
http://stat1.amercom.nl/cgi-bin/webstat3/bannerstat.pl?site=sanexnet2&banner=3
? I find the results strange to say the least (people can only vote once).
Monica Seles has about 2.5 times the votes of Martina Hingis in second place. Henin, Capriati and the Williams girls have less than half the votes Hingis has had.

What is so odd about it?

Pretty simple reason I think: Monica-seles.com did a massive campaign asking people to go vote! If I did the same, Anna could get into second place I'm sure:)

Monica Seles fans also had the choice at my site to vote and on a Yahoo Fan Group...But she has the fans in this area, so it still means she has TONS of fans!!

Odd? Not at all. Don't understand why people are so surprised to see Monica win these polls by a landslide. If you watch tennis on T.V. at all - you can't miss the fact that Monica is usually the crowd favorite wherever she plays. :)

I think on here most of the posters are obsessed;) tennis fans and the liking of players is spilt a little more evenly.

But I do think people who don't really follow tennis would vote Monica for many various reasons which I am not getting into now.

But then it could be that Monica fans just keep on voting again and again because you can keep voting each time you log on;)

Monica is very popular, so it does make sense. I also think that people are speculating that retirement is near for Monica (she hasn't done so well this year...) and so maybe this is a good way to send her out! In any case, I think that she is worthy of a "hero" status no matter what, so I don't have a problem with that!

"she hasn't done so well this year..."

Two slam quarters, a slam semi, and numerous good tournaments..

A win over Venus...

You can't keep voting! And most ppl. WOULD choose Monica if they followed tennis...In fact, that's what happened to me!

Obviously Monica fans are stuffing the ballot box. Iv'e tried to vote and it said I already did. Then i used like ten different names but it still kept saying i had already voted. This poll is not done fairly.

Why is it odd that Hingis is second? She is very popular and was leading the champions race until her injury. She is working very hard to get healthy. I also don't find Monica's big lead all that surprising. If her fans worked hard to get her votes then that just shows how dedicated they are. Sounds like some sour grapes around here.

Not a Monica fan however I can understand why she would be leading such a poll. After all she's been through I can understand why a lot of ppl would consider her a hero more so than other players!
