I say Yes because it would help more lower ranked players to get into the main draw.

It also helps the top players to get rid of their hiccups in the early rounds!!

First-round byes are relatively new I think in women's tennis. I don't remember seeing them until the 90s. Eastbourne, for instance, you had to win six rounds to win the title.

But there are more tournaments today then there used to be. If there were fewer tournaments now then I would think first-round byes should be eliminated and the top players would have to play more like they used to.

Fine, get rid of the byes.

Just make sure you change it to a "Best 15" ranking system while you are at it, because every top player except Jelena Dokic is going to play 2 less events.
