Hoping to improve the organization - separating out the livescores from the information about Na - how about a new thread for 2008 for all of Na's information?!?

================================================== =====

I'm looking for the link to the Chinese players' schedules - it was posted in one of the player's threads about 3 weeks ago. Can anyone help me find it?

From Fabien Lollipop (Chrison) I found it in the Yan thread:

CTA released national team's schedule until Olympics.

The pdf is too big to put in attachment,so I put it HERE (http://ustv.blogbus.com/files/11969583160.pdf).

Li Dashes Schnyder's Hat-Trick Dreams

GOLD COAST, Australia - The final of this year's Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts will see the unseeded duo of Li Na and Victoria Azarenka going head-to-head for the $175,000, Tier III title. China's Li was forced to come from a set down to defeat No.4 seed Patty Schnyder, while Belarusian teenager Azarenka scored an impressive victory over her doubles partner and No.5 Shahar Peer.

Li arrived at the Gold Coast having not played a competitive match for nearly six months due to a right-rib stress fracture, but a lack of match practice has not stopped her from playing some mercurial tennis this week. After shocking No.7 seed Sybille Bammer in the first round, the Chinese star claimed an even more impressive scalp in the quarterfinals, dashing the hopes of No.1 Nicole Vaidisova in straight sets.

Despite these impressive showings, Li made a sluggish start to her semifinal with two-time Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts champion Schnyder, surrendering her serve twice en route to dropping the opening set. However, the 25-year-old from Wuhan displayed her class in the second set and secured the solitary service break in the fourth game to force a decider. The final set contained a staggering nine breaks of serve, but it was Li who held her nerve at the death to make her first Sony Ericsson WTA Tour final since Estoril in 2006.

"I'm so excited to make the final in my first tournament back," Li said. "It was tough as towards the end of the second set I started to get really tired, but I saw my husband and coach in the stadium and it gave me the motivation to try my hardest in every point of every game until the end."

Li reaches Gold Coast final in comeback tournament, to face Azarenka
January 4, 2008

GOLD COAST, Australia (AP) -- China's Li Na upset fourth-seeded Patty Schnyder of Switzerland 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 Friday to advance to the final of the Australian women's hardcourt tennis championships.

Li, who beat top-seeded Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic in straight sets in the quarterfinals, will play Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in Saturday's final at Royal Pines. Azarenka beat fifth-seeded Shahar Peer of Israel 6-4, 6-2 in the other semifinal.

The 25-year-old Li is on a comeback after missing the second half of last year with a rib injury.

"I want to be in the top 10," said Li, who was ranked 29th at the start of the tournament. "I feel stronger mentally. A new Li Na has come back. I feel fresh."

Schnyder said Li had the talent to break into the top 10, but it depended on the health of her 143-pound body.

Li hobbled into the media conference room Friday, her swollen right knee strapped with ice.

"I just hope she can stay healthy for one year because she always has problems with her body," Schnyder said. "She's a really dangerous player. Even if she misses two in a row she sticks to her game plan and makes it really tough."

There were nine breaks of serve out of 12 games in the third set, and Li broke Schnyder to lead 6-5 before closing out the match.

"I felt slow on the court and I was reacting late," said Schnyder, who will skip Australian Open leadup tournaments in Sydney and Hobart next week to practice in Melbourne.

Li is playing for the first time since Birmingham, England, last June.

Coached by her husband Jiang Shan, Li reached a career-high ranking of 16 in January last year after making the semifinals in Sydney and then reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open.

Chinese No.1 Picks Up Right Where She Left Off

GOLD COAST, Australia - Li Na came to Gold Coast as something of an unknown quantity. In the first half of 2007 she was a world-beater, planted firmly inside the Top 20 and perhaps headed even higher; but then a stress fracture in her right rib forced her to miss the entire second half of the season. She seems to have picked up right where she left off though, and at the Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts made a swift return to the winner's circle.

Although she was ranked No.18 in her most recent event at Birmingham last June, the aforementioned inactivity caused Li to fall to No.29 heading into Gold Coast, and as a result she was unseeded. But that didn't hinder her as she battled past a number of seeds to reach the final, starting with No.7 seed Sybille Bammer, who led 3-1 and 4-2 in the third set before Li struck back for a 64 46 64 win. She dismissed No.1 seed Nicole Vaidisova and No.4 seed Patty Schnyder as well, before taking on fellow non-seed Victoria Azarenka.

Azarenka had her chances in the final; after closing out a 58-minute first set, 6-4, she served up a break at 3-2 in the second set before Li stormed through seven of the next eight games to steal the second set, 6-3, and go up 3-1 in the third. Azarenka reeled off three games of her own to move up 4-3 but the Chinese No.1 reasserted herself again and prevailed in a nail-biter, 46 63 64.

"I am so surprised I won," Li said. "I had four months off without playing, staying in bed with my rib injury; I don't know how I've been able to come back like this. My team told me this morning that I had already had a good week and I may as well go out and try and win one more!"

Li comes away with her second title in four Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles finals, having already won at Guangzhou in 2004 and finishing runner-up at Estoril in 2005 and 2006. She becomes the second Chinese player to capture two Tour singles titles after Zheng Jie, who, coincidentally, is also making her comeback from an injury that sidelined her for the second half of 2007.

For Azarenka, the loss drops her record in finals to 0-3, all three losses coming in dramatic fashion. At Estoril last April she squandered two match points before losing to Greta Arn in a third set tie-break and at Tashkent in the fall she held a 5-3 lead in the first set with three set points but fell to Pauline Parmentier, 75 62. But she draws positives from Gold Coast.

"I wouldn't say it slipped away today; she played great, especially in the second and third sets," the Belarusian teenager said. "This tournament has been great preparation for me for the Australian Open. Though I lost today, I gained a lot of confidence this week and I think I learned a lot."

It not because she won Gold Coast. I really think Na will destroy her. In 2007 I was wishing Na draws Bartoli like first seed :p Its all about kind of game. Marion is slow, and needs time to prepare her shots. Na plays so quick, I think Marion doesnt have a chance really. Maybe Im wrong of course. A lot of times I thought: "She wins for sure" and then she loses. but I hope its not this time ;)

Na just withdrew from Sydney, because of the knee.

Li Na, who was the last player directly into the main draw, said: “It’s sad I had to withdraw from the Medibank International in Sydney with a right knee injury, especially since I was in the semifinals last year. The problem with my knee seemed to get a little worse after I tried to practice this morning and I just could not move very well. I really like this tournament and I will hope to come back next year.”

I had a feeling she will withdraw too. Anyway Im so scared. Its normal because she was injured for 6 months, she just comebacks and withdraws. I think its nothing serious, she just wants to rest to be ready for the Oz Open. But you know, I dont want to think in last year. I thought it was nothing serious in Birmingham. And she started to withdraw from tournaments.

Oh well, I hope she says something soon. It doesnt seem to be really serious for that quotes, if not she would have say it I think

don't think there is anything serious but she might want to try to play for one game and then retire if it is not OK...
she did this once before and seems like it worked really well...
anyways, it is obviously strategic....

Amelie Mauresmo, Li Na withdraw from Sydney International because of injuries
January 6, 2008

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- Amelie Mauresmo and China's Li Na have withdrawn from the Sydney International, the last major tuneup event before the Jan. 14 start of the Australian Open.

Mauresmo has a left adductor strain and Li has a right knee injury, tournament officials said Sunday.

"Unfortunately I have re-injured my left adductor," Mauresmo said in a statement. "I felt it yesterday during my training session and did not practice today. This is an injury that I am familiar with and know that it will not get better overnight."

Mauresmo won the tournament in 2000, and was a finalist in 2004.

Li, the last player into the main draw, won the Australian women's hardcourt on the Gold Coast on Saturday in her first tournament back after a six-month layoff due to a rib injury.

"The problem with my knee seemed to get a little worse after I tried to practice this morning and I just could not move very well," Li said.

In first-round women's play, the Czech Republic's Lucie Safarova beat Alicia Molik 7-6 (2), 7-6 (12-10). The Australian wild card had beaten Safarova in straight sets at the Hopman Cup in Perth nine days previously.

Asians have point to prove after lackluster year in tennis

Agence France-Presse
First Posted 11:41am (Mla time) 01/09/2008
MELBOURNE -- After a year in which they failed to turn promise into any significant success, Asian players have a point to prove at the Australian Open.
Going into the tournament, eight Asian women are ranked within the top 100, with China's Li Na at 24 the highest placed and the best hope for regional success in Melbourne, if she recovers from a knee injury.
Others making the grade include India's Sania Mirza (31), Ai Sugiyama of Japan (38), Peng Shuai of China (45), Japan's Akiko Morigami (48), China's Yan Zi (58), Chan Yung-jan of Taiwan (68), and Aiko Nakamura of Japan (70).
.......
Much was expected of China's emerging women, in particular, in 2007 but they failed to deliver, partly due to injury.
The signs were encouraging this time last year but no Asian went beyond the fourth round when Li was sent packing by the now drug-tainted Martina Hingis.
............
Li had an impressive first half to her season, making the quarterfinals or better five times before succumbing to a right rib stress fracture which forced her out the final 13 events of 2007.
But she bounced back, winning the Australian Women's Hardcourt championships last week, although a knee injury forced her out of this week's Sydney International.
The 26-year-old, the first Chinese player to reach the last eight of a Grand Slam, at Wimbledon in 2006, said she grew mentally during her time away.
"I became a better player after the six-month absence," she told Chinese media. "I am a calm woman right now and I will take my future challenges with a stronger heart."
Zheng, who partnered Yan Zi to win the women's doubles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2006, injured her left ankle at Roland Garros last year which wrecked her season.
Before the onset of injuries she had climbed to 34 in the world, but is now languishing at 163.
However, according to Gao Shenyang, vice-director of the Tennis Administrative Center, tennis's governing body in China, she has successfully come through surgery and is raring to go.
As well as Li and Zheng, Yan Zi will be one to watch.
The Sichuan-native is currently ranked at a career high 58 after zooming 112 ranking places last year with 31 victories to 15 defeats.
.........
Whatever happens, Asia will be watching.
For the first time, Australian Open organizers will put high-profile Asian matches on a designated showcourt.
Officials have long promoted the season's opening major as "the Grand Slam for Asia-Pacific" and they said having a special Asian court would deepen ties with the region.

And here is a little tidbit about her husband....

The Chinese add their own flavour to tennis. Their tactics for dealing with outsiders include a feigned inability to speak English.
Puffing a cigarette on Saturday afternoon, a much relieved Li's husband and former coach Jiang Shan turned down an interview request because his English wasn't good enough. A conversation he had in English with tour regulars a few seconds later indicated otherwise.
Li later handed him her victory bouquet of flowers -- not as a present, but as a "here, hold this" gesture unaccompanied by any public affection -- as she walked towards the Royal Pines locker room.

Na is also far from her best form...
she has some difficulties when moving around and her backhand is not as aggressive as before...
plus, she usually needs to play those Top players for a few times before she can manage to beat them...
however, I still believe Na can beat anyone when she's playing her game!!!
so let's see...

I didn't see Zi or Shuai or Tiantian. Probably not on the site yet.

Here are some more details. (Nothing very exciting.) Na and Jie were practicing. They had the court for one hour. The players having the court right before did not leave and Na/Jie were anxious to get started so they had to sort of just get on the court and make the other guys stop. I was about to go talk to Na one second before she moved out on to the court, so it was bad timing. There were two Chinese men there, Na's husband and another guy on Jie's side. They started by rallying to warm up for about ten minutes. Later I saw Jie serving and Na returning. Jie was either having trouble with her serve or trying something new because she was netting almost every serve. Na had a light tape on her left knee and Jie had an ankle brace. I saw Elena Vesnina come over and talk to Na at the side of the court. When I looked back at the end of the hour (2 minutes after) they had already left and so I missed a chance to talk to them.

Edit - I think that was her right knee. Not a support tape, more like a skin covering.

And now the bad news. She is still in the states, but I guess heading to Germany for knee surgery?

I keep thinking back to speaking to her coach; it was at Yan's match. Na hadn't withdrawn yet, or if she had I hadn't heard about it yet. I saw him looking in on the match from outside, and I was standing right next to him, and I told him, "Please tell Li Na that I wish her good luck and I love her" and he just looked at me and nodded his head. I thought he was being protective of her, and pretending like he didn't understand me, as he is known to do. But now I think maybe he knew already what was about to happen and it's just weird thinking of that he knew that but couldn't say it. He was gone next, and I saw Na practicing a short while later, but that practice was just right before she withdrew.

Hope we get more news soon.

Great to see news in spanish :D

Sorry for the bad translation.

Chinese Li Na could have a surgery, but she will be in the Olympic Games

Number one chinese Li Na, could have a surgery in her injury knee, but will be able to play the Olympics, according ton an CTA official

Number 29 from the WTA is out from the courts since Antwerp ( :weirdo: ), in february, and wont be able to return till 3 weeks ( hope this is right! ), said Gao Shenyang to “China Daily”

“The injury will not hinder her participation in the Olymmpics, but we have to take it seriously”, he said. “We will contract foreign coaches in order to be sure there wont be more injurys in the national team”

25 years old Li was out of the courts fro 6 months last year due to another injury. She came back winning the title in Gold Coast, and reaching the semifinals in Antwerp (what about Doha :smash: ). But, due to the knee injury, she has withdrawn from Dubai, IW and Miami.

Im sure you can understand it :p After all, its nothing new :o

1. She will only be out three more weeks......... good news, if believable.

2. CTA will contract foreign TRAINERS to keep the players fit and injury free. That will be great.

Three weeks is really hard to believe. Maybe three weeks to be back on the practice courts.

Well, if that, if it is SO serious, she would have withdrawn from Berlin already.

And she is still IN :)

People

We have to delete this thread or the other one. We cant have 2 for the same things.

I vote to delete this one because has fewer pages. But vote that post livescores in "Day Scores thread" of tournaments thread. You will make me a favour too superna, because I ever go there to see scores when Im back to home from work (if I come here to watch them, I see the number of total pages, so I can imagine the result  )

No, it's not a good idea. I don't want to lose vCash by getting this thread merged.

I blame this problem on super_na. Terrible posting habits from the beginning, including making muliple single line posts - one or two minutes apart - and putting livescores into what used to be our information and news threads. I tried to correct this from the beginning by asking him to stop these things, which he ignored. And I got no support from anybody else.

Then I created different threads for livescores vs. information/news/support, which now for some reason people cannot keep straight. Now what people are doing is putting news/discussion into livescore threads (doing same in Pengs Forum too).

Not to mention that chinatennis is starting new threads to post a few pics in each - instead of seeing a picture thread which is clearly there (or at least putting them in the same new thread). And when I mention that to him..... no response and nobody else helps with that, maybe a Chinese speaker? But no.

If the feeling for some reason is that a longer/bigger/older thread is somehow better than a fresh one for a new year - a decision that I disagree with, but won't stop you - then please ask to have this one locked. I'll let chaos rule and give up here.

drake, i stopped one line posts for ages since i knew how to edit the posts, ok? and whats done is done. i would prefer the old na li thread to stay. i already stopped posting livescoring on that thread.

and just a few unrelated posts on peng's livescoring threads, i think its alright.

and the problem of vcash u would probably lose, ellery will deal with it as he is one of the richest man on Asian players' forum :p

and i am sure mods are willing to help to move those pics of Chinateam into the photo threads.
just imagine, 09, 10, 11.... na li cheering threads :o

1. What does one line posts have to do with editing? It happens when you push Submit when you have only typed one line. Then you press New Reply. Then you type one line. Then you press Submit. Then you repeat about once per minute. You would not have to edit if you never did it that way in the first place. And when I tried to nicely ask you to put ALL of your message in one post you gave me some ridiculous reply and kept on doing it. Dont say editing is the reason.

2. You prefer a huge old thread to a new one for the year, fine. Apparently the others do too. Have it your way. But I don't agree to merging or deleting this one. So you can ask it to be locked.

I wil stay out of here, but all I can ask is that people take a bit more care in Shuai's forum, not to mention posting negative things about her in her thread.
