I think she is in the easier part of the draw & if she finally finds back to her old form something like QF or even better is possible, but after 2007-Season also a loss to the Q can happen

But new season, new luck: ALLEZ! :D :rocker2:

Rezai Ready For Match Of Her Life

Black will be back - not Cara Black but the stunning outfit worn by France’s Aravene Rezai in yesterday’s semifinal win over Kiwi wildcard Marina Erakovic.

“I will be wearing black again tomorrow,” said Rezai as she looked ahead to today’s final with ASB Classic marquee player Lindsay Davenport. “Today it was great. I’m in New Zealand why not wear black?

“I was playing well. Not as good as yesterday [when she ousted third seed Katarina Srebotnik on Thursday] when every ball I hit was in.”

Rezai is under no illusion of the enormity of the task confronting her in the Sovereign Singles final but she is not letting that faze her.

“I respect every player,” she said. “Lindsay Davenport was No 1. I’m not scared about that. It will be better to play her than Marina Erakovic.” A reference to the crowd support behind the New Zealander yesterday.

“I don’t really have a tactic. I just want to play.”

Rezai, the last-but-one player to get direct entry into the singles draw, has yet to drop a set. Her closet battle was with two-time ASB Classic winner Eleni Daniilidou which she won 7-5 6-4.

She said she is not thinking about her only previous WTA final in which she was forced to retire. Her focus solely on today’s game and the chance to go stroke-for-stroke with one of the greats.

“The people here are very relaxed. They are cool.”

Davenport, who has dropped just one set en route to today’s showdown — the second set against fifth seed Anabel Medina Garrigues — admitted she was going to spend some time watching yesterday’s second semifinal.

“I will probably give it more attention than usual as I haven’t seen either of them [Rezai and Erakovic] play,” said Davenport.

She left the media conference giving the gathered journalists the feeling she was not, however, overly concerned.

hopefully the "All black Aravane" will prevail tomorrow:lol::angel:

She could give Tatiana a lesson, honestly she has her chances if she plays as good as in Auckland. Tatiana is not serving well, Aravane won't struggle too much to return then. Should be a great match though :D, hope both get through first!!

As we expected, she is revealing her true potential one year after her breakthrough ... Her results are so solid, I am extremely happy for her, it's the deserved reward from al her efforts.
Tatiana is her next opponent, she has been struggling to defeat Cohen Aloro. So I hope Aravane gives her a lesson so that Tati can learn how to work. :wavey: ALLEZ!!!!

Aravane won 63 36 63 :yeah:. She was totally in control, Tatiana's only reliability was her serve otherwise she couldn't decide of anything. Very agressive display from Aravane but with more security. She is constructing her points really better now, well she is a different player now that she works with Mouratoglou. No problems of footwork or bad shape here. Aravane is ready to show all her potential :D!

Next could be either Bammer or Hsieh. Bammer is actually in trouble. I saw Hsieh last year, I can't believe she can reach the 3rd round, she is so bad! Aravane would certainly smash her easily!

Aravane will play Hsieh next round. Everybody says that she is a tricky opponent (I saw her twice and have never been impressed though), so Aravane has to be very serious. Still, this is a girl you can easily overpower. I can't see Aravane losing. :) Allez!

Jan 16th, 2008, 11:44 AM

Was he sleeping in 2006 when Aravane reached the 3rd round of RG & 4th at the US?

I don't know, probably..In 2006 she just commented the AO, now he comments all the year..

But the guy is clueless about woman's tennis, except about the top5/8.
He "remembered" (something that never happened) like 3 times in Jakovic vs Paszek that Tamira leaded 5-0 vs Henin in RG and then lost that match. In USO last year, said that Tamira is compared to Kournikova the way she plays. :tape: And his love to Tamira is annoying just because she is/was trained by Larri Passos (former Kuerten's coach).

And it's dumb too checking the profiles in WTATour.com. Usually is the other commentator who usually check the site to see the other scores and the H2H between the players and their best rank.

I afraid today he'll say that Pin's best shot is the serve, because of her high 1st Serve %.

Jogi
Jan 17th, 2008, 09:05 PM
it's good to see Aravane so motivated and willed to work on her game, she probably realized that having the hardest strokes in women's tennis is not enough to get to the very top and defenitely seems in better control of her power shots, yet she still tends to go for the winner out of the craziest positions a bit too often
her fitness seems slightly improved since I saw her play at the beginning of 2007 (against Jankovic), but she needs to keep up the good work, she still has so much room for improvement
I'm defenitely impressed with her admirable on-court attitude, she seems so fresh and pumped and pushes herself to the limit and her team seems to push her even more... yet she's not bitchy or anything, also love to see her smiling on court!
having said that I do see her reaching a new career high ranking in the first half of the season as she has only 50 points to defend until Istanbul... hope she stays healthy and keeps up this great level of play :)
Allez!

Yeah, she will learn from this loss, I am not worried.
Hsieh won moonballing & kept surprising Aravane with her weird shots. Aravane could have won if she took advantage of Hshieh poor serves or went to the net. Too many mistakes in addition, but it's due to Hsieh great defense. Yet she gave a wonderful match saving 6 MPs and playing so well when down. This tie-break was amazing, she is so fearless! I love her attitude too :).

I watched this match...Aravane had the WORST day, from the start of the match she was completely out of it, Hsieh is known for her accuracy, angles and variety which is, like, the opposite of Aravane and she used the to great effect to jar Aravane up and then when she could see that Aravane was missing shots, she would slice back and do this hilarious slice serve that lured Aravane into smashing the ball which would inevitably go out...for some unknown reason Aravane took the bait, every time...so obviously the mental is still lacking in tight situations, even though she's come a long way. The only reason she took that second set was because Hsieh choked leading 6-2 5-2 40-0 and Aravane came roaring back and finally started to play well.

Hsieh (who I also support) is so funny on the court, she gives nothing away, and shuffles like a zombie between points, but she comes up with some great shots!!

pauvre Aravane :p son "A game" n'était pas là pour lui aujourd'hui, mais comme quelqu'un a dit, elle n'a que 50 points pour defendre avant qu'Instanbul donc tout est aux mains d'Aravane :D
