TO EVERYONE:

I am proposing something very controversial...a peace pledge...for those people who are tired of seeing your faves bashed or people who want to try something new...as a williams fan and a fan of womens tennis in general, find myself very open minded and i want to be an example... i want to see all the williams, hingis, capriati, davenport, and the others actually be fixated on cheering on their favs in a tasteful way rather than criticizing other players...if you agree with me or want to try this please sign up...if you dont agree oR think this is dumb then dont reply at all...(i think that this is going to be quite fun)

1) Reply with this form filled out:
I (your name) pledge to keep peace on this board. I will only post messages that are positive about players. No matter if someone says something bad about me i will not respond in an ill manner. I promise to keep this pledge for (number of days or hours, must be more than 12 hours)
From: (date and time you want to begin your pledge)
TO: (date and time you end your pledge)

2) On your signature please write "peace pledge"
3) Keep your promise!!!

-You may pledge agian once your pledge is finished.
- As fellow pledges we should spread the word and encourage others to participate.
- If any pledges fail to complete their pledge than please send me a private message with proof (i know that sounds stupid)
- I hope this will be a challenge for you...

(GOAL WILL CHANGE AS MORE PEOPLE SIGN UP SO SIGN UP PLEASE!!)

GOAL: TEN PEACE PLEDGES

:) :) :)

naw i like women's tennis and really its just about challenging fans of various players to see who really cares about their players accomplishments rather than disrespecting others who dont like their favorites..i want to see who is really loyal enough to their favs to put aside rivalry and focus on their own players...

I rarely start trouble, so I've no problem with that part. However, I'm sorry, but I won't sign a pledge to be a doormat. If someone starts slinging it, they should expect to get some back with interest. Especially if it's personal.

In the real world, I'm an activist pacifist--here, it's just words. ;)

I can't... I can't just sit around and watch Venus or Serena or Lindsay or any of my favourites get insulted. I rarely post offensive stuff though.

Vanity... so that's your reason? Please, it is not like Venus fans are the ones slinging mud most of the time.

oliver Your peace effort is to be commended and is sweet, but I'm afraid it may not do much good.

Some of us who have been posting here for any length of time have tried to be respectful towards others, even when we disagree with them. I believe we will continue to do so, even without signing onto a pledge. That is our record, it speaks for itself, if one cares to do a search.

Some are not interested in peace, decorum, civility, or anything remotely resembling respect for others. That is their record, it speaks for itself, if one cares to do a search.

I feel that peace is a good thing, but we shouldn't want or expect it to be some sort of fake, harmonious, kissy-poo-sweet climate here, devoid of healthy conflict. I feel that some have learned the art of a good debate and can present their opinions without getting personal or resorting to hate. Others don't know how to, or refuse to learn.

The kind of climate that should exist to me is a fair one, no more no less, not necessarily harmonious, but healthy at least, where all camps are of equal value; where each side mutually respects the others "arsenal" (opinions, ideals, facts, favorite players, fan diversity, creativity, race, pride in celebrating their favs, etc, etc)
and they all realize that "war", (hateful, inciting words and opinions) is an exercise in futility with neither camp winning anything.

People that can debate without hate are to be commended (you know who you are, we all know who you are)

Peace, Everyone.:wavey:

Nice idea oliver - I hope people will try to abide by the spirit of the pledge even if for whatever reasons they can't take it.

Oliver,

Again you are to be commended on your peace effort, and you have done nothing wrong, nor started anything new.

It is not my intent to indict anyone, their own words do that, not me, and I certainly am not trying to build a case against anyone because none of us are on trial here. I apolgise if that is what you or others are getting out of my post.

I felt that I was simply giving my opinion to a stated truth that I felt was not accurate, and I still stand by that opinion.

People have been abiding by your peace pledge long before you came to this board, and guess what, they will probably continue to do, but it is sweet that you want it in writing,:) so even without signing up, I've signed up and I'm with ya, oliver!

Peace, Everyone!:wavey:

Here is my peace pledge:

1. I will attempt not to start a flame-war; since I am scared of them anyways, the chance of that happening is pretty slim in the first place.

2. To the best of my ability, I will limit myself from posting any insulting messages when others write inappropriate stuff about my faves; because the moderators are really dedicated here ;) and my faves don't care about those people who write stupid stuff about them, posting insulting messages is useless anyways.

(for the cynics : please, I am not doing this to appease our dedicated moderators;))
