Woot! :bounce:

I was deciding whether to go all out and buy tickets for the AO or just go to the mediback. But I decided lots of good players will probably come to the medibank to test out the new surface anyways. And I live in Sydney so its kinda convenient to get to. And also the finals tickets are much cheaper than the AO. I got 2 finals tickets for 150 bucks I think, which is much better than 500 for 2 AO finals tickets.

im thinking of going and as this is my first toruny i will attend i have a couple of question:
1. im a student does that mean i recieve concession prices (if so do i need to take anything to show im a stusdent)?
2.im taking my youger bro (aged 12) what prices does he pay?
3. can i buy centre court ticket (which allow acess to all coutrs?) on the day?

Ben.
Dec 9th, 2007, 06:31 AM
i think its maybe only university students that receive concession prices but i'm not so sure, your younger brother will play by concession and if you have a centre court ticket it allows access to all the other courts :)

I will be going Mon, Tues and Womens final Friday. Ive been going since it was held at White City, seen great womens players over the years, Graf,Seles, Williams sisters, Hinigs etc. Favourite match last year had to be Vaidisova versus Jankovic, awesome, tight match. Lets hope channel Seven this year shows more of the matches and not that stupid mens exhibition in Melbourne, if they do lets start a petition!

Don't get me start with men's exhibition :o

I want night matches live broadcasting on Channel 7 not delayed tape at 11pm or so!

with its any consolation I think channel sevens new HD channel will be used for excess tennis coverage they cant fit on seven due to news commitments or other tennis coverage such as the mens exhibition. Well from a google news search on seven HD this seems the case for the aussie open lets hope they screen more of the medibank on the HD channel!!

Yes, it's easy to find the players if you go to the practice courts. It's past around the Court 2 where you can see many ball kids going that way for a break ;) Just following them

And make sure bring suncream and wear hat because there don't have a roof except the food court and erm... a FanFest tent.

My advice to anyone attending for the first time is don't stay stuck in the main stadium arena, especially if its a boring match. You get so many good matches in the early days on the outside courts and theres bound to be one at an exciting stage on at any one time, so go for a wander! Also you can get much closer to the play as well a lot of the time (you may have a seat far back in the main stadium) and you can get a better feel of how the player plays, and more atmosphere up close, and in some cases a better perve;)

I'll be going as many days as possible. When does qualifying start?

RayB - If you're just getting a ground pass, make sure that you've got lots of water, lots of sunscreen, a broad-brimmed hat, long sleeved shirt, plus wet weather gear (including plastic sheet to sit on). DON'T just wear shorts, muscle shirt and thongs - basically you'll need to be able to cover up everything from the sun. If there is rain, you'll have limited options for cover. If it's hot, you'll have limited options for cover.

You'll need to work out which matches you REALLY want to see - because some of the courts have very limited seating. And as, I think, all of the outside court seating is side-on to the courts, you might want to watch some matches from the entrance gate to the court or sit/stand at the very end of the seating - to give your neck a break from looking left, looking right, looking left... Although you'll probably want to sit with the sun to your back (rather than looking into the sun), make sure that you protect the back of your neck from sunburn.

Last year, during qualifying, there were limited toilets - I think that only one block was open. Take a copy of the schedule for the day - they don't seem to have spares (or even have a set on a wall showing who is playing where). There are a few shade tents - which you might want to take advantage of - regardless of who is playing.

You have to pay for parking. Although the covered car park (near the golf centre) will probably be available on Friday and Saturday, I think that it's restricted to pre-paid parking from Sunday.

Buy a program - you'll need the map. Last year they gave out little fans (looked like table tennis bats) - if you see them, get one (or two). I can't remember whether there are flies - probably!

Your bags will be security checked - just like the Olympics (and there can be a bit of a delay). I think that glass bottles and alcohol are banned from being brought into the venue.

And, last year, there didn't seem to be any problems taking photos.

Does that help?

I will be going (and ALWAYS) for the last 7 years since 2000 :) and love it!

I would probably going this sunday and a few night sessions as well (I haven't got the tickets yet, to get it wouldn't be a problem as all the seats pretty much has a great view, also I prefer to wait and see who would play on that day) :)

I just came, saw 2.5 hours of it today, as it was free, so was a bit of fun to see some qualifying matches, mostly mens. Saw a bit of the Gagsdova match (howevever you spell it). The rain stops got annoying so came home but im going Monday, Tuesday and Fri night for womens final. Forecast is only for a shower or two next couple of days which usually means no rain.

Walking up road to Mcdonalds Shciavone and her coach were jogging, jogged past me fast and omg that woman is looking so fit at the moment she must have been doing a LOT of training. I also saw her warm up on the main stadium court hitting the ball very hard and big grunts, she acts really butch really but shes straight from what I hear haha.

A quick question - how many big screens that we can see matches from Centre Court? I'm plan to go there tomorrow to see Henin vs. Safarova but I don't mind watch it on the big screen at outside the Centre Court with Ground Pass tickets which is saving money :p

I don't like the one between the Centre Court and the food court because of too crowd and no seats available
