What are some of the most amazing individual shots you have seen on the WTA tour? Shot-makers are fun to watch, for sure...

My favorites are the Pierce through-the-legs shot, Hingis vs. Adrian @ Aussie Open this year, an xcrt forehand passing shot on the run at an impossible angle from a terrible position, and my favorite, Justine Henin's drop-luck-volley at 5-5 in the third set tiebreak against Serena Williams.

opps, one more shot, how bout that one handed backhand on the run winner that martina hit against venus at wimbledon. lol, i thought that was hilarious, she was on the run and decided to hit a one handed top spin backhand and it went by so fast that venus juss watched it go by. Maybe she should switch to one hand.

1999 US OPEN Semifinals Hingis hits a ONE-HANDEN scoop backhand around the netpost which lands on the corner to bring up match point against Venus Williams.

2001 Australian Open quarters Hingis hits a desperate lob which just catches the line and Serena rockets the ball towards a ball boy (not on purpose). It was a break point and the beginning of Hingis's comeback in the match. All this happened after Serena hit a bomb up the middle but Hingis leapt to the ball and made a perfect stab return which landed very deep in the court. Hingis remained on the defensive for the next two or three shots until she won the point with that great lob.

Mary Pierce's shot between the legs.

Hingis, pulled out way wide during the 2001 French Open in the fourth round hits a stunning forehand down the line around the netpost which lands right in the corner and Testud is stunned. That was a break point.

Serena Williams made an AMAZING drop volley during her qf match against Hingis at 2001 OZ to save MATCH POINT #1. On match point #2 she ran down several great shots of Hingis's at the net until finally Hingis put the match away with an angled overhead.

Venus Williams made a great get off of Hingis's weak smash after a long rally at the 2000 US OPEN semis. Hingis was then broken and lost the match.

Monica Seles DRILLED a ball at the net CROSSCOURT with her two-handed backhanded. She hit the ball about as hard as she could and yet much to her dismay MARTINA HINGIS had anticipated her play and hit a topspin loopy forehand off of her shot to pass Monica. The court was wide open and Monica had to watch this slowball become a CLEAN WINNER.

Monica Seles hit three incredible two-fisted forehands in a row near the end of her victory over Venus in Oz this year. The third forehand was right on the corner!!!!!

Kim Clijsters hit an amazing backhand dropshot against Venus Williams earlier this year saving a breakpoint. The dropshot went crosscourt and landed on the line. It was a CLEAN WINNER. She also hit some amazing passing shots off of Venus's smashes.

Justine Henin hit an amazing down-the-line backhand on the dead run on grass to pass JENNIFER CAPRIATI at the net. She followed that point up with a fabulous crosscourt backhand with an extreme angle. She defeated Capriati.

Jennifer Capriati nailed an acutely angled crosscourt forehand on the line to save match point earlier this year against Martina Hingis in the finals of the Australian Open.

also that crazy down -the- line backhand winner from Martina in the semis of Oz this year. The winner landed VERY VERY SHORT (in front of the service line) and angled after from an APPLAUDING Monica Seles.

Martina Navratilova at the net runs back to the baseline to retrieve a topspin lob from Chris Evert and she nails an amazing, blind forehand winner.

o0O0O, that Justine Henin pickup/drop volley was not luck, it was talent :p

Anyway, I unfortunatley did not see see that martina hitting that one hander vs Venus but Ive seen other amazing shot like the Mary Pierce a la between the legs winner at RG.
I remember last years Year End Championships, quarterfinals Justine vs Serena. Close second set tie break and Serena had match point on Justine serve. Serena broke a string while returning the serve so she had lost control. She had no choice but to go up to net and Justine hit a nice lob over Serena's backhand side. Serena jumped up as high as she can and just got her racquet on the ball. The ball landed on the sideline 6 inches from the net. Justine was stunned as I was also. Tense moment

Mary Pierce v. Monica Seles Roland Garros 2000
The between the legs shot on a Seles overhead, down the line for a winner in the corner.

My favorite shot of all time,

The infamous 1997 US Open Semifinal, V. Williams vs. I. Spirlea, Venus' backhand down the line pass against Spirlea from match point down in the decisive tiebreak was the shot of the tournament.

Here's an article! http://www.lvrj.com/lvrj_home/1997/Sep-06-Sat-1997/sports/6013235.html

And remember last years year ending Championships, match point for Serena Williams vs. Justine Henin, with broken strings Serena holds a rally with Justine then hits an amazing short angled overhead backhand...

There was this amazing shot in a USA Summer Hardcourt (I think it was San Diego) VENUS WILLIAMS was playing MONICA SELES in the final. Monica rallied the point attacking Venus in the net with an AMAZING backhand swinging volley which Venus run off to her forehand and returned it with a clean down-the-line forehand.

1999 FO Final- Steffi vs Martina. It was the third set, Steffi was 5-2 up in the third set at Deuce for the second time. After an spectacular rally Steffi hit an spectacular cross-court forehand which lead Martina out of the court. After Martina returned parallel Steffi made a clean drop shot which Marti could not even think of.

2001 Eestile.com Lindsay vs. Monica- At the beggining of the second set, Monica was leading 2-1 I think. She hit an excellent crosscourt forehand which Lindsay replied with an INCREDIBLE down-the-line forehand which she had to correct at the moment due to the strength the ball was carrying.

Hope you remember them...

Serena against Justine in the Rome finals where she hit a one handed backhand angled topspin passing shot after a drop volley by Justine. Justine applauded Serena... :)

Dokic vs Conchita, 6-6 in the tiebrake in the 2nd round of RG. If conchita won the point, it was match point and if she lost it she was down match point. she hit this loopy and fast shot down the line to dokic's backhand after a really long rally (dokic was like 4 metres behind the base line) and dokic whacked this backhand down the line, passing conchita-what a shot to pull off on being down possible matchpoint!

Hingis in one tournament was once like 4 metres behind the base line and pulled off a dropshot that just bounced over the net. Her opponent-whoever it was-was stunned!

I can't believe thati can't remember nemore considering i live tennis! let me think about it until i remember some more! :)

Yes, in fact she was running from the right of the court, and in fact, she was running to fast and Venus'ball was already on her so she did something special like if she was going to fall and hit AN AMAZING backhand dropshot on the line!!

In the AUS 2002 SF match Hingis made an extremely beautiful backhand down the line winner against Monica Seles . As even Monica applauded that beautiful winner .Seles had advantage on that long rally , she drew Hingis run side to side .But Hingis just caught that good ball and turned her body to return with a backhand down the line winner ( exactly it was on the the corner of service line )!

Actually I mentioned that one above but you explained the point better than I. I thought the ball landed even shorter than that but it was so much fun and really a spectacularly unique and creative shot. NOBODY in that stadium expected that shot except for... Martina Hingis. :D

I have 2 favorites :
Early this year I saw Monica Seles hit a streaming backhand (lefty huh?) with awsome power in a doubles match, it went from the far edge of the court to the far edge accross if you catch my drift? It was on matchpoint, they did eventually lose the match.

We all know the driving forehand Kim Clijsters so often uses or as we call it 'The Agassi Volley'. Well I once saw Justine Henin hit one with her one handed backhand on a rather difficult hight! It was an awsome shot!!

Well, there must be more nice once's but I can't remember... *blush* :)

treufreund ! Sorry because i did not know you have mentioned that .But obviously i am really getting excited because we both still remember that beautiful shot clearly ! ..yeahh the way she was turning her body and the way she put her racquet after hitting that backhand really impressed me deeply ! ..I tried to hit that shot in my game but it's really hard to play exactly the way she plays ..I once did hit that shot successfully in a match playing against my friend ..but i could not repeat that again ..I know there is a site that help us how to learn prostrokes ,including Martina Hingis' groundstrokes .yeahhh they recorded clearly the way Hingis prepared to hit a stroke during the match ,the way she prepared to serve .very interesting and very easy to learn ! It really helps me a lot .If you are interested ..please tell me . I'll give you the address ! .( it's also required the password to log onto that site as a membership .But if you are interested .Why can't i give that password to you ?)

Kim Clijsters Vs Lindsay Davenport in the semis of the end of year Championships in Munich 2001. With Lindsay dictating the rally she hit a shot that took Kim out so wide out of court then running Kim hit an amazing forehand winner down the line to win the point. The celebration was just as memorable down on one knee and a clenched fist a-la Lleyton :D

I think that Martina has excellent skills and thats why she is mentioned in so many of these posts, i also think some of Anna K's on the run passing shots are some of the best i have seen. I cant remember that exact matches but Anna is really fast and the shots just look superb. :-)

This isn't a single shot but Venus and Serena both does this regularly.

Hitting the backhand crosscourt once or twice and pulling the opponent wide and then hitting a huge backhand down the line. It's just spectucular to watch.

Venus does this often. Serena did this against Venus in the Wimbledon finals. Can you believe it? This is Venus one of the fastest players on court! :o

I love those shots :)

RG 2002 QF Capriati v.s. Dokic

Jennifer Capriati and Jelena Dokic were having an intense rally, DOkic being the agresser was controlling the rally , she hit a hard forehand inside out, Jennifer gave her a short ball which DOkic slapped away but Capriati got a racquet on it, it flew way over jelena's head and landed in whic put Doic in the defensive ( she was just able to throw it back up in the air), she was in the right hand doubles alley court, Jenn hit a volle into the other corner and somehow Dokic ran accross the WHOLE court to hit the ball for a backhand winner down the line, it was amazinG!!
