Players await Sony Ericsson Championships draw / November 03, 2007


The draw for the Sony Ericsson Championships will take place at 12pm today (Saturday) at the Westin Palace hotel in Madrid.

What sort of a draw is there for this? #1 and #2 are obviously in different groups, so do they then draw between #3 and #4, #5 and #6, and #7 and #8? You wouldn't want 2-5 being in one group and 1 in a group with 6-8. Why do they need a draw?

I think that they used the WTA rankings to create the draw. if you look at the WTA ranking then it makes more sense. They put the draw together in two's - Henin could not be with Svetlana, Ivanovic could not be with Jankovic, Williams and Sharapova were split and then Chaky and Daniela were split.
that would produce the draw that they got.
