I think Seles got the toughest draw possible. Henin in the quarters, Venus in the semifinals and then possibly Davenport in the finals. Of course, this is if each seed continues through. Insane, it doesn't get much tougher even at the Slams.

Too bad there is barely any coverage of this event and none in the US.

I'm confused as to how Davenport could be given the #2 seed. If I'm not mistaken, the seedings are supposed to go according to WTA rankings from the week before the tournament (in this case, following Brussels et al.). If that's the case, then Davenport should be seeded #6, and everybody else should move up a seed.

I didn't think non-Slams were allowed to jigger with the seedings.

Hope Monica can make the most of her tough draw.

Is anyone know, Why Jelena JANKOVIC get into The Main Draw?....I reckon she's got a WC...But Why...???, I rather than give that WC for Angelique WIDJAJA (for her great performance this year)

Please go out in the first round Jelena (Dokic)

Damned, I'm really upset with that #2 seed for Davenport

I think it's unfair, she will have to beat, say, Grande, Martinez and Panova to go through the final!!! (Don't expect too much from Jelena I-enter-as-much-tourneys-I-can Dokic or Kim I'm-injured-but-I-still-believe-I-will-defend-my-title Clijsters.... )

Davenport should be seeded #6, now look at #6 seed draw (Justine): (Q), Raymond, Seles and Venus...

Actually, I think both Seles and Justine were stolen!

Go Anna!! ;)

What a tough draw for Monica! I dont' see why Davenport was given a higher seed than Seles....Lindsay's ranking is still high enough to get her a high seed in any tournament she plays.

Jul 20th, 2002, 10:12 AM
I think Lindsay deserves the no. 2 seeding, but I think it's only doing her harm here. she could use another round of play against a low ranked player, but instead she's getting a first round bye.

Jul 20th, 2002, 10:14 AM
damn Anna (of the seeds) has the toughest draw!

Jul 20th, 2002, 10:21 AM

Seles's Draw.........Tanasugarn , Sugiyama , Justine , Venus ....
She had the same people in her Wimbledon draw too ......;)

Jul 20th, 2002, 11:53 AM
Venus should cruise to another title here. If she can beat Seles on Clay in straights, she will have no problem with her on the hardcourts. In fact, the draw is pretty much a cake-walk for the #1 and #2 seeds to make the finals. There, Venus will cream a rusty Lindsay in straights... (I mean, she's creamed a non-rusty Lindsay -- so I don't see a problem here).

Oh no, Alexandra vs. Meilen in the first round!!!
This is terrible, I like both a lot! :(

What? no coverage of this in the US. That's pretty bad. Maybe there trying to build up demand for the US Open.

Jul 20th, 2002, 05:15 PM
No coverage in Canada either. That's to me a marketing blunder given that Canadian Open - Mens' starts next week (Jul 29), and Women's, in three weeks (Aug 12).

Canadian Open - Men's is called "Tennis Masters Canada".
Canadian Open - Women's is called "Rogers AT&T Cup".

That's what I love about this tournament. It's a small field full of good players. I hope the webcam doesn't punk out all the time like last year. Can you imagine what a couple of those inexperienced qualifier's will feel like, looking at this draw?

good luck to jelena jankovic and dokic
