Because of a limited schedule due to the injuries and sicknesses, we weren't able to see Nicole progress much, although she did towards the end of the season.

What do you think of Nicole's 2007 season?

I thought she was quite consistent, she had some good results, making two QFs at the slams plus a SF was pretty good. The only bad thing was she failed to win a title.

She finishes 2007 with a 37-14 W/L record and will most likely finish ranked #12.

Sydney: SF (d. Hantuchova, Fedak, & Ivanovic; l. Jankovic)
Australian Open: SF (d. Craybas, Sequera, Srebotnik, Dementieva, Safarova; l. S. Williams)
Paris: 2R (d. Rezai; l. Safarova)
Indian Wells: QF (d. Mattek, Rolle, Bartoli; l. Kuznetsova)
Miami: QF (d. Krajicek, Azarenka, Dushevina; l. S. Williams)
Charleston: 2R (BYE; l. Krajicek)
Fed Cup Week #1 (d. Cibulkova, Hantuchova)
Roland Garros: QF (d. Gagliardi, Amanmuradova, Garbin, Stosur; l. Jankovic)
Eastbourne: QF (d. Stosur, Baltacha; l. Henin)
Wimbledon: QF (d. Knapp, Pratt, Azarenka, Mauresmo; l. Ivanovic)
US Open: 3R (d. Kudryavtseva, Pennetta; l. Peer)
Moscow: QF (d. Shvedova, Vesnina; l. S. Williams)
Zurich: SF (d. Srebotnik, Jankovic, A. Bondarenko; l. Henin)
Linz: SF (d. Pennetta, Meusburger, Safina; l. Hantuchova)
Quebec City: 1R (ret. to Voracova)

Not counting her injuries and mono, I would give her a 7/10.

The only highlights for me were the SF-QF-QF at the first three slams and reaching a career ranking high of #7.

It is still more of the same w/ Nicole: beating who she should beat and almost always coming up short in the big matches against higher ranked opponents.

She ends 2007 being ranked in the top 15 for the 3rd straight year and hasn't won a big title yet.

I'd say 5/10 - hope that she will have a much better 2008.

Nicole had a pretty decent season, minus her injuries and her illness. Yet, she missed huge chunks of the season with her injury during the clay season and the US Open series. It makes me wonder if she would have perhaps made a final or won a title during that time if she had been healthy.
I'd say a 6/10. Here's hoping for a better 2008.

I thought that Nikki had a solid year on the court. She has made progress with her best results at the Australian Open and Wimbledon. I really feel that if she can stay healthy, Nikki will make a lot of noise next year.

i think she had a great year most of her results were QFs or higher the only bad thing is that there were a couple of matches that she should have won but just lost or chocked alittle but overall a good year hopfully no injuries next year :D

First I am glad she has added new shots in her game and improved overall. Although there still is a room for further improvement, mainly on return and backhand. I would give her 7/10 probably. But it's tough, she's had a very good and consistent season but also couldn't overcome that semifinal hurdle. This season has been darkened with the fact that she very rerely beats players who are ranked above her. That's why she can't reach finals at any bigger tournament because there she is guaranteed to meet a higher ranked player in quarters and semis. Until she starts beating these players at least occasionally she'll be stucked around 10th position in the ranks. On the other hand it's good that besides that Krajicek loss she hasn't had any bad losses or beatdowns, that's quite remarkable for a player of her age. Look at her contemporaries and their numbers of bad losses, you will find more (Rolle, Zi Yan etc.) So yea I think 7/10 is it for me.

That's a great summary of the whole season. :p

I'd say 7/10.

If she hadn't of been injured, she would have easily qualified for the YEC. I mean, she would've at least played Berlin, Rome, San Diego and Toronto. She would have easily accumulated enough points from these events to put her in the top 8.

She had so many tough losses in 2007 though. Jankovic, S. Williams, Kuznetsova, Krajicek, Ivanovic, Peer, Henin and Hantuchova are all matches she had leads in, choked, or just came up short.

The losses to Ivanovic and Hantuchova hurt the most.
