Miriam Oremans def Evie Dominikovic 6-4 6-3  :(

Thats according to tennis australia....very very disappointing :( But not entirely unexpected, as Miriam is playing well and quite experienced....come on Alicia! Square it up!!!!!

Jul 20th, 2002, 04:15 AM

Come on Alicia!!!!

Jul 20th, 2002, 04:16 AM
like i said playing indoors is asking for trouble as they got two very good indoors players ( a bit past it they might be, but they do know how to play)

Jul 20th, 2002, 04:18 AM
I know Eggy, I agree...but we couldnt exactly pick grass or clay :o hehe

Maybe Rebound Ace outdoors?

Jul 20th, 2002, 04:29 AM
should have played in Darwin outdoors on any surface u like.

but indoors

Jul 20th, 2002, 04:42 AM
was evie dominikovic ranked higher?

Jul 20th, 2002, 04:44 AM
why didn't they just play at the Sydney tennis centre where the adidas international is held?

Jul 20th, 2002, 04:44 AM
No Evie is 107, I think Miriam is 94. Pretty close.

Second match should be close to being over...waiting for scores! Fingers crossed!

Jul 20th, 2002, 04:47 AM
conchita....I dont think they would have gotten much of a crowd there (especially for a relegation tie). Also the cost etc. Dont know really! I guess its good to play in the non-capital cities every now and then!

Jul 20th, 2002, 05:00 AM
lol, k, thanks! :)

Jul 20th, 2002, 06:21 AM
I think Alicia won, because I just missed a passing headline that moves across the TV on this show, Sportswatch, and I saw "leveled the tie at 1-1".

But I'm not 100% guys, so don't count on it just yet, but I think it is.

Jul 20th, 2002, 06:24 AM
I'm must be mixed up!

from the other source, that Evie DOMINIKOVIC has won her match by defeated Myriam OREMANS in WOLLONGONG NSW Australia......

But, on this site: OREMANS def DOMINIKOVIC 6-4 6-3

which one is the correct one?

Australia down 1-0 to the Netherlands
Saturday, 20 July, 2002

WOLLONGONG - Australia has lost the first match to the Netherlands in the Fed Cup World Group Play-Off at Wollongong today. Sydney's Evie Dominikovic, 22, playing her first Fed Cup singles match, succumbed to the more experienced Miriam Oremans 64 63 at the Win Entertainment Centre. Dominikovic, ranked 107 in the world, was unable to combat the power game of Oremans, who recently reached the third round at Wimbledon.

Be it grass or hard court, the Dutch dynamo knows her stuff and nailed Dominikovic with her relentless serve-volley game. She drilled the Aussie Fed Cupper with some net skimming slice backhands and forced her nervous opponent to come up with the passing shots. While she managed to do this on several occasions, Dominikovic's game was blighted by unforced errors and a second serve that Oremans pounced on.

The first set was an even contest and it was Dominikovic who drew first blood when Oremans hit a backhand volley wide to trail 1-2. She broke back immediately and kept ahead throughout the set, going in for the kill at 5-4. Footfaulted at 15/30, a double-fault set up two set points and Oremans snatched the first at the net.

Again, Dominikovic survived a high-pressure service game to stay with the No.94-ranked Dutchwoman in the second set and broke her to lead 2-1. Up 40/0 on serve, she walked to the baseline after striking, what she believed, was an ace. It was called long and from there on Dominikovic struggled to maintain her confidence. She dropped her serve twice to trail 4-2 and Oremans cleaned up with a low backhand volley on match point. "I was in control of the whole match," Dominikovic said. "I'm definitely very pleased and I served well from the beginning on."

The next singles match is between Australia's No.1 player, Alicia Molik, and Kristie Boogert.

The loser of this tie faces relegation to a regional zone while the winner will move into the elite World Group in 2003. In the reverse singles tomorrow, Dominikovic faces Boogert and Molik takes on Oremans – unless the Australian team decides to field team member Christina Wheeler. Changes can be made up to one hour before tomorrow's start of play, at 11am. The doubles is played after both reverse singles. Australia's Rennae Stubbs has been named to play with Dominikovic against the tough combination of Oremans and Boogert

Some news from tennis australia!

Evie v Kristie 5-7 7-5  Locked at one set a piece and Evie saved 3 match points!!! The next update should have the end result! Come on Evie, you can do it!!!!!!!!!

Jul 21st, 2002, 06:17 AM
Boogie makes all her matches tough!
Please take this out Evie!

Jul 21st, 2002, 06:20 AM
Not good news :(

Boogert d Dominikovic 7-5 5-7 6-1 :( Her experience has prevailed!

Evie will be devastated, I wonder if they will go with Alicia instead in the doubles?

Come on Australia! I gotta say tho, I have to favor the Dutch in the doubles...

Jul 21st, 2002, 06:30 AM
I also think the tie has gone to the favour of the dutch. Boogie and Oremans are a very good doubles team.
Hope Australia can pull this one through!

Jul 21st, 2002, 06:31 AM
BTW, just found out Boogert got it on match point #8  Congrats to her, it wouldve been heartbreaking to lose another tight match...but Im stilll disappointed in Evie :(

I had a feeling with her famous 'nerves' that she wouldnt come through today  I hope this doesnt affect the rest of her season, but I have a feeling it might.

Boogert levels tie 2-2 against Australia
Sunday, 21 July, 2002

WOLLONGONG-A valiant effort by Dutch representative Kristie Boogert has kept the Australia v Netherlands Fed Cup World Group Play-Off tie crackling at the WIN Entertainment Centre.

Boogert this afternoon defeated Australian No.2 player Evie Dominikovic 75 57 61 to level the tie 2-2. Earlier today, Australian No.1 Alicia Molik outgunned Miriam Oremans 62 63.

The tie will now be decided in the doubles and Australia has replaced Dominikovic with Molik to partner world No.2 doubles player Rennae Stubbs. Champing at the bit to make a difference for her country, Stubbs holds a 12-7 win/loss record in Fed Cup doubles and has never paired with Molik, who is 2-4.

They will go head-to-head against Sydney Olympic silver medallists Boogert and Oremans, ranked No.45 and No.70 respectively.

Oremans is 12-2 in Fed Cup doubles and Boogert is a formidable 8-3. They have only lost once together in Fed Cup in eight matches so the rubber will be a great challenge for the Aussies.

In their favor is Boogert's undoubted fatigue as a consequence of her three set match against Dominikovic and an even longer one, which she lost, against Molik yesterday.

The No.168- world ranked Boogert needed eight match points to finish off Dominikovic and held three of them in the second set. A series of wobbly forehands let her down, allowing a gutsy comeback by the young Australian, who broke to lead 6-5 in the second set and levelled the match as Boogert struck a backhand volley into the net.

But Boogert quickly stormed to a 5-0 lead in the decider with some aggressive tennis. Dominikovic staged a late protest and was close to breaking Boogert as the Dutchwoman served for the match.

She needed four match points to finish the matter, at which Dominikovic aimed her forehand deep into the court and just missed.

The winner of this best-of-five tie will hold a position in the elite Fed Cup World Group in 2003, while the loser will face relegation to the zonal competition.

Had a feeling they'd go with Alicia :) She's fresher and in better form.

So far it looks to be paying off, as Alicia/Rennae lead 7-6 in the first set! I got this score from that TV show Sportswatch...but who knows what the score is now!

Come on girls, finish it off!!! I gotta go to work soon! lol

i have a short report of my two days in the evie forums if u wanna read it..

but anyway overall i think Kristie played FANTASTIC tennis, the first set against Alicia and for most of her match against Evie it was almost perfect. Miriam also played some of the best serve/volley tennis ive seen in her match against Evie, and they combined great in the doubles. Surprisngly Alicia/Stubbsy finally won a match together, a welcome surprise!

btw that Silvana Bauer is really cute..i took a pic of her with that other young dutch girl and got her sig :)!

i finally got in contact with Evie and she liked my site too...so its been a good weekend! GO AUSSIES!

Don't worry, Kristie Boogert played great!! :) I never seen her before until last weekend in Wollongong and she impressed me!! :D

Jul 22nd, 2002, 10:21 AM
thats trie alex..even from the outset, the very FIRSTrally..she had a very tough rally with Evie then SLAMMED a forehand winner down the line, which set the scene for the rest of the match! she was a brilliant shot maker

after that first rally my m8 was a bit stunned and gave out a 'whoaaaaa' ;)!...cos he missed previous days action and didnt think Kristie wouldbe that aggressive
