I know it's early.
But does anyone has nay information about her in 2008?
Will she play Gold Cost? (I hope!)

I'ts nice Patty ended this weird season with tier 2 final! :) :hearts:

In the Sydney forum, tobi has informed me that Patty is not on the list for Sydney. She always plays here! Let's hope he is either wrong or Patty will take a WC.

Maybe she is taking a different approach this year. Play Gold Coast and head to Melbourne to prepare, perhaps?

I think the second option you mention is probably what she'll do.
She never had good results in Sydney and she has no points to defend from last year (Lost to Peer on the 2nd round [the 1st was Bye..])

I'd like to see her change it up this year and not play as much. It would be good for her.

She beat Vera Dushevina in three sets in the first round last year. I remember following the scores and knowing this would not be a good year. ;)

When gold coast starts, tell me how this year would be.. ;)

I don't think she plays too mcuh (Less than JJ for sure ;) )but I hope she won't have too many strange and annoying loses on 2008 (Cirstea, Bychkova, Kanepi ( :o ) )

I know, but she loses on her first round anyway (Which is very stupid since those points are important.. She'll get them anyway)
So if she wants to lose on her first round, she should not go there at all!

As a gold exempt, her end of season bonus money would be reduced for skipping it.

She plays all of the Paris/Antwerp/Doha/Dubai tournaments and then takes Indian Wells off and tanks Miami. It's been like that for quite a while now.

It's not that you don't try it's just such a pity to lose so unnecesarily. It was a tight match looking from the scoreline but it's not going your way yet.

My Goodness! This is definitely the most Dismal Doha Draw I've ever seen.
Even the match against Paszek could be quite tough if Tamira is in good form.
Safarova is never to be underestimated and then after all those battles she'll face Venus who had a easy route to Patty having to beat the tired Knapp.
IMO if she gets to the match against Venus she's done very well this week.

Sadly you're making a good point.. She needs to build some confidence asap.. If and she does what yoiu say, I think it will be pretty bad to see her in the small tournies..
But on the other hand, each storly has two sides, like it can build her confidence, she can also lose to some clown and that will destroy her confidence..
Btw, welcome to the board :)

LefandePatty
Feb 18th, 2008, 05:43 PM
No way she shouldn't play[she wouldnt btw] any lower tournaments. The weaker player she plays against the worse she plays. She only has to focus on her game in the early rounds before having the chance to play against some big players to gain back some confidence.

Schnyderfreak
Feb 18th, 2008, 06:02 PM
I dont believe that she should play smaller tournaments Besides losing points from the bigger tournaments she wouldn't win them back at the smaller ones either. suppose that would theoretically be an option she would have a playing schedule like Jankovic which is madness for Patty and could not be a serious option.

She'd get her confidence back when she is back into a stable match form which will bring her to at least the QF of tournaments again.then she will play the matches against the top 10 players again which are inspiring for any tennisplayer.

This year her match form is very unstable winning one easily in straight sets and then losing the next with a big fight in three sets which could and should have gone her way.this eats up the confidence so she needs a good week in a high tier tournament a couple of times in a row preferably and she'lll be fine again.
I guess the recipe is simple but where( meaning when) do we get the medicine??

I'm so glad she made it, and quite easily. Doha may be the tournament where she wakes up and gets back to her true level. The thing is, it's never been about technique with Patty, but about mental strength. She should relax a little bit more instead of getting frustrated on the court.. but oddly enough, her temperament is what I like about her, so I don't know..

yes and no..
I don't enjoy Patty losing all the time.. I wish she could find her fighting spirit again..

I feel like, these days, if she succeeds in winning one important match (a tough one) then she thinks she's done her job and becomes less motivated.. or more easily frustrated.. I think she doesn't do everything to win several important matches in a row..

:crying2: what is there to say besides that Patty is having a tough time getting through the second rounds lately:sad:

the problem is that only Patty can help herself throught this by winning a second round next week in Dubai if she plays.

@tedlesurfeur I'm sure Patty tries her best to win every match, she's a pro and this is what she does for a living. At this level of sports the mental aspect is just as important as the physical. Mentally sh;e in a dip right now after the last weeks. if she reached 2 QF's she could've been knocking at the top 10 door again! this dissapointment leads to prro results. She has to get into a positive frame of mind soon and start believing that her game is still good enough to reach her goals.

The 1st set was soooo good!!!1 I wish she wouldn't blew those sp's and all the bp's..

I really don't know what to think.. I mean, in the 1st set I rememmbered how good she can be, but when the things didn't go her way she was totally off and didn't fight much, didn't seem to have fun.. So I don't know how much left..

Yeah, it's her last year

:sad::sad:Patty:sad::sad:

good to see you really tried the first set, but unfortunately the dissapointment of losing it made you lose interest in the match:eek:
That's something I dont remember knowing about you: giving up without a fight:help:
when you're out of form that's the last thing that should happen. You should always fight on court.......(as if YOU dont know)

If this being out of form continues then she could consider not playing anymore.
last year she was getting in better shape at these tournies building up to a great shape in the clay season!
This year ....... just keep trying the skys cant always be cloudy!!

(4) Patty SCHNYDER vs. BYE
Aiko NAKAMURA vs. Tamarine TANASUGARN
Akgul AMANMURADOVA vs. Yaroslava SHVEDOVA
(5) Agnes SZAVAY vs. (WC) Shikha UBEROI

...her section in Bangalore. She is in #1 seed Jankovic's half, which I have to say is a lot better than #2 Venus. Best of luck Patty! She really could make the final this week if she plays well, I don't rate Jankovic very highly at all.

Tanasugarn has been playing pretty well lately, but Patty should still get by her. Tammy isn't the best mover out there and Patty should be able to get the ball out of her strike zone.

Then Szavay, presumably. She just beat Agnes in Fed Cup, and I think she is too consistent for her.

I think she will either lose in the second round or make the final, I guess we will find out soon.

I was expecting Tanasugarn. Nakamura hits with two hands off both sides, but is fairly quick. I'm not really expecting anything, but hopefully Patty can win fairly easy.

And for today..
Schnyder def Nakamura 6:7 6:4 6:2
Well I had no way to watch it but from the results and the stats it seems pretty worrying.. :help: :o
In good day she should beat Nakamura pretty easily and now she struggles in a though 3 setter..
The weird thing is she had 12 (WTF??!!) aces! and 4 doubles..
9 of the aces were in the 1st set and yet she was broken twice and lost it in the TB (7:6(1))
In the second se broke Nakamura to lead 5:3 and serving for the set, she led 40:0- 3 SP'S and managed to be broken.. but she broke her to win the set 6:4.
In the 3rd, she led 5:0, Nakamura held and broke to 5:2, and then Patty led 40:0 on Nakamura serve. She won that game to 30,but the two mps she lost were on 2nd serve..

Anyway, not a encourging start..

In that case Patty has a good chance of winning cuz of her lefthanded game and her good mobility.Patty's forehand against Akgul's backhand, good variation and some dropshots could do the trick.

Here're some of the things Patty said after the final (From the tour's site):

"She was a great opponent today and made it tough for me to play my game," Schnyder said. "I think the first set could have gone either way, and I had my chances. I was really happy with the way I played today especially my forehand, but she was serving and rallying really well too. I lost to a great champion."

"The crowd was great; even though I lost, I really enjoyed playing in front of so many people," Schnyder continued. "I can't be disappointed. We had a lot of great players here and I made it to the final and played a close match against Serena. I've played especially well the last few days so I'm proud of my week."

I have an informant who has told me that Patty was visibly trying. This is very good news, considering her track record in Miami (losses to Kanepi and Castano in recent years come to mind).

Anyway, she beat King 7-6(8) 4-6 6-2. Hey, it's not the best win but I'll take it at this point. This time last year she probably would have just wilted in the third.

She has a rematch with Kanepi in the third round, who beat her last year in the second round. I have a feeling the result will be much different this year. She seems motivated to get back to the top ten. Allez.

She will face Razzano in the QF and will beat her in three sets, then she will face Cibulkova in the SF and will make it to the final, where she will defeat Safarova (Safarova the return).

Allez Patty !!!

Indeed, no better draw for her..

she's playing bad and performing awful not worthy of top 10 => former top 10!!!
lose early = early rounds.

Or maybe you dont understand why she lost??? me neither she just let it slip away.
she was asleep in the first set then finally woke up in the second.she broke immediately in the third set but could'nt hold it and got broken back.I guess she was so dissapointed and lost concentration that she got broken more and lost the match 6-2
An awful performance here with a draw . Was this worth tanking Miami for??

Patty. I guess she's struggling with her form but I hoped Patty would quickly find her form on the clay, which suits her topspin game so much. Maybe the European clay will bring out something in her. I hope she finds form in time for Roland Garros. I'd like to see her do well there.

choose the right modal verb to express probability :

she will win, I'm 100% sure she will
she must win, she's the best out there
she should win, she likes clay
she may win, who knows
she might win, if she's lucky
she can't win, c'mon look at her results
she won't win, I'm 100% sure she won't

Let's go with may

I go with should. she should win not only cuz she's good on clay but also cuz a former top 10 player should win from anyone outside the the top 25 even on your worst day!!!
I also agree with Justine Schnyder "Damn Patty has to win!!" the good thing is that she gets alot of support there in Charleston so there's a chance that she will perform well in this tournament.

This is the place besides Zurich where she gets an awesome support from the homecrowd.this will be the 12th time in a row that she´ll contend in Charleston so if there´s anyplace where she´ll be motivated it´s here allright.
That´s a good thing too cuz she´s gonna need it to beat Aga.
it sounds now like I´m worshipping Aga which im not denying but looking at Patty´s form right now and what it takes to beat Aga who´s playing well and smart it´s going to be very tough but never impossible .So believe in yourself and your game Patty you CAN beat her !!!!!!!

I was happy at first, seeing the 6/0, because Govortsova just pounds every ball she has and Patty doesn't like that.. so I like the score...

But then, Aga is just SMART, man, she won't just get trapped in Patty's web, she'll do the same, and from what I've seen of her, I'm not reassured... :(

Agree with both..
The problem is, that Aga suppose to have an easy match today.. And unlike Olga, she does get many balls back and thinks on court..
Aga does play very very well this season and Patty will have to be simply on fire tommorow.. :S

I typed up my entire report and then something happened and it got deleted.

So I will just type about Patty's match:

Schnyder d. Radwanska 6-3 6-2

Coming into this match I thought Patty would lose just because she has been so shaky this year. The first game and had eight points, no first serves..and she still held. :o To be honest, I can't see how Radwanska is Top 20. She has nothing at all in her game to hurt people. Patty was hitting the ball deep, close to the sidelines, and with a lot of topspin. There was nothing Aga could do except moonball (which she did, incessantly) and watch Patty either hit overheads or swinging volley winners. :help: Patty had lots of great drop shot points where she would follow it up to the net and beat Radwanska in a game of touch shots. Overall it was just a great match for Patty, she did everything perfectly except serve. I will be there again tomorrow to root her on against Elena.

Sadly, if Patty will reach the 3rd round and her match will be brodcasted, I won';t beb able to upload it because I don't have a DVD recorder :(Justine,I actually made a lot of Jewish friends when I lived in Baltimore(U.S.),but we have very few here in Mexico;almost all of them live in the capital which is far south from here...that is the only place that has several synagogues.

I found a Canadian named 'Drake1980' who says that he(or she) remembers the Swiss Fed Cup player,Caverzasio, but 'Drake' has disappeared for a few days since I asked some follow-up questions(don't know where he/she is).I'll fill you in if 'Drake' tells me anything...my suspicion is that Cathy lived in eastern Switzerland and had some Italian ancestry also cuz she played Fed Cup for both nations.

Patty lost the first set 6-2 on her favourite surface .

Well, as sad as it is, when you're Patty and you lose to Dushevina on clay I think it's time to retire.
Siriously, I gave up.
Thanks for the 1998-2006 you gave us Patty, but siriously, I'd rather not to see her playing at all than play and lose to such clowns (Vesnina, Dushevina etc.. And on clay)

Let's just say she played a terrible match again like many this season and that she and her coach will have to find a different way to prepare her for the tournaments cuz this strategy's NOT working.
A couple of years ago this couldn't even be in your thoughts of Patty losing to someone like Dushevina on her best surface or any at all.
Cmon Patty get yourself together and work out a plan that prepares you well for RG!

I mean, I guess we will just have to expect her to lose matches against anyone halfway decent from now on. She just isn't as good as she was two or three years ago. Her forehand doesn't have the sting and consistency it once had, her serve isn't delivering, she is a step slower, and her backhand has gotten worse, if that's even possible.

I don't mean to be a Negative Nancy, but I think we've see about as good as we're gonna see from Patty. As her biggest fans in the world, we just have to stick by her and enjoy the remainder of her career.

She's still in doubles this week, don't forget!

on one hand you're right, I guess all the years of performing at this level wears her out and she could be mentally tired( of the game  ).On the other hand if it wasn't for that match against Aga when she actually blew Radwanska off the court showing her A game again I would agree totally with you.
She still has the game but she has to dig deep mentally to raise her current level to it and she has difficulties in being consistent in a tournament.
You would nearly suggest to take the grass season off and be fresh for the hardcourt season and the US open and the indoor season afterwards
off course with the sponsor responsibilities this couldn't be a serious option although she could use a break I believe

I really hope Patty can turn things around this week. Some of the qualifiers are very tough, so it's not as easy as the draw might lead you to believe. Go Patty though - at least a quarterfinal please baby!!!

Domachowska and Bacszinszky both lost, unfortunately for me.

Just going down the list of players in qualifying, Cornet, Vesnina, Benesova, Kanepi, Amanmuradova, Peng, and Chan jump out at me as potential losses. Hope Patty is ready.
