i hope so...overall the season has been great considering where i started and where i am at the moment, but as usual there's always something we regret even though it's been an amazing season, i cracked world top 1000, i'm one of the best 50 skiers in italy in both slalom and downhill, so it's a great achivement but i'm a little sorry because i couldn't make it to the top 20 in the slalom of the italian championships and i couldn't confirm my best points in slalom throughout the season (if you compare it to tennis it's like i made the SF in a 100k and then i couldn't go any further than a QF in a 25k and a couple of wins in 10k)

Apr 11th, 2011, 06:49 PM
It's certainly different from all the suspense/thriller novels that I've read (and I've read a lot of those) but I love it. :D Salander is such a complex character and her intelligence is amazing.

BTW, I'm curious what's your fave book in the series? Just don't tell me the ending of the 3rd. I still haven't gotten to that yet.

Zamboni
Apr 11th, 2011, 06:54 PM
My fave is the first.
I can't see the 2nd and 3rd separately, they are one story for me. I do love these too, but it seems so farfetched :o
But they are all good. The only storyline I don't like is the one about Erika Berger at SMP. IMO it doesn't add anything to the story at all.

peanuts
Apr 11th, 2011, 07:16 PM
Me too. I asked you because I was afraid you'd say the second and I wanted to say the second kind of got tedious in the first several chapters. :tape:  I do love the series because of Zalander. When it comes to series I usually end up liking it because of the characters. The plot just becomes secondary. I have to admit Blomkvist is just ok for me. :o

True about the second and third being one book. The gangster/spy thing was a little huh? for me. And Niedermman reminded me of that villain in the James Bond movie.

Berger and SMP. The book is already thick enough I don't know why it needs a useless filler side plot. :p

Have you seen the movies?

Zamboni
Apr 11th, 2011, 07:21 PM
I don't usually read series. Salander is intriguing for sure, but I liked her more when she wasn't compromising (ie book 1 and 2). In book 3 she changed a bit.
Blomkvist is alright. The whole books are full of intriguing characters.

I have seen the movies, and they are actually pretty good. They managed to capture all of the most important scenes, which are a lot ;)

peanuts
Apr 11th, 2011, 07:37 PM
Well series are for bookworms (like me) anyways. :o  Hmmm, I think I've already read a bit about Salander compromising.
Yeah intriguing characters and intriguing relationships. :hehehe:

I've seen the first movie but I find it a little weird to watch them speaking in Swedish.

BTW, if you like uncompromising characters, you should read The Fountainhead. ;)

Oh Swedish has some Dutch?

Yep. I checked it and it's the second book that features the main character, Cotton Malone. It sounds interesting and the main character is a bookseller. :D I like characters who are into books. Dislike: Caro, Vika (can't STAND the noise level, otherwise it's ok, but I hate having to watch on mute), Bartoli, Serena, Schiavone, Kvitova.

On a completely random off topic: My hotmail account gets bombarded with junk, which I always open and read because some of that crap is off the charts, but only at work, since if anything is virus infected it will bugger up my work pc and probably earn me a few days off :-)

Today I received the best e-mail of them all; an existing solicitor in England has evidently searched the archives and some long lost relative in the Congo worth billions passed away, leaving everything to (who else) me! LOL And there it was, signed by the solicitor with name and phone number attached. So, I thought, here we go, let's have a laugh. Rang up the solicitor in England and they've evidently had so many phonecalls, they have audix answering the phone

"If you are calling in regards to Mr. Plumber and the inheritance e-mail, we REGRET to inform you that this is indeed a hoax e-mail and that our firm has nothing to do with its circulation".

You REGRET??? How many people actually rang up believing they had a relative in the Congo who they've never heard of who left them millions???

Question is, do the same people answer the "give me all your personal details by completing the 'survey' and we'll send you a free penis enlarger" e-mail?

I've checked with my female colleagues and their spam reception is like 20% of what we guys get. Clearly, people are out to prove that we are dumb. Or, more disturbingly, that it works...

Random thoughts I felt like sharing...

My uni is quite strict about attendance and passing subjects (if you don't get at least 42 ECTS (I think) in your first year, you're out, stuff like that) :o
But when you're with 15-20 students, it's kinda hard to skip anyway....

Hello darling,

Thx for asking, sleep is ALWAYS good btw. My day started out pretty crappy, hence the venture into this blog in order to find some inspiration and motivation, but it appears to be getting better...

:topic: One day, IF I ever make Professor or something noteworthy in the academic community, I absolutely solemnly swear that I'll pay attention to my researchers and fellow staff. Meaning, that if one of them tells me they can't do something, I won't automatically assume that they can and they're just trying to be difficult :fiery::help: Being boss, doesn't mean that a no=yes and a yes=yes. If anything, by being 1/2 British, I should be expected to be an idiot and a bigot. An idiot I may be, but I'm most definitely not a bigot. Please don't deprive me of the joy of interacting with people I used to be 10-15 years ago, by inundating me with menial, bureaucratic crap.

Linda babes, it's not getting me down, it's just really really cheesing me off  Seriously, and I'm not blowing my own horn here, I'm very popular amongst the staff and the students, probably because I'm relatively quite young, and as I've told you, I came back into teaching because of the non-financial rewards and because I needed to find some sense of purpose after a very troubled period in life. And tbh, I'll put myself out there to help ANYONE worth helping and be completely selfless. But right now, I just feel I'm getting trampled on and being taken advantage of. And that makes me angry, which I hate being :tape: And, as I don't feel comfortable 'bitching' to my colleagues, I just thought I'd vent here :D Thx for the message, you are TOTALLY sweet.

 I was doing a Zvonareva vs. Pennetta US Open stint now that you mention it! Things were rolling along nicely, strolling to certain victory (in this case relaxation) and then I broke down  Big boys don't cry and I didn't have any tape to start pulling off my thighs, but you get the drift... However, did walk in to a Study Group I run and began the introduction with the most heart-warming and cordial salutation of "Fuck", which got everyone laughing, but they know me by now...Anyway, enough of this crap, how are you anyway? How is the evening rolling along in the magnificent Philippines? Seriously, I could soooo do with chilling away in one of those raft things. You're lucky you live in such a picturesque part of the world...
 Imagining you as the academic Zvonareva has a certain entertaining factor to it ;)

I'm more of a getting down on myself, getting all upset, and glaring at the rest of the world type. Which player would that translate to?

You just described 80% of the WTA Tour. :p No seriously, who else but Flavietta? You just need your own Urpi to scream eloquent words at. Maybe you can have Sven since he'd understand your Dutch. :p

True:lol:
I can talk as much as Flavia, depending on the ppl I'm with:lol:

Had an appointment at the orthodontist at 7.30 :o Made it so early, so I could work after, but my boss gave me the whole day off:help:

I am now sorting out my videos that I downloaded from youtube. They are a mess:o

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
I know what you mean. But I can also get awfully quiet when I'm with people I'm not comfortable with. I won't say a thing unless I've been asked a question.

Maybe you can ask your boss to make you go to work. You're already awake anyways.

In case of my sis and me that is true:angel: I was the kind of kid who was always messing around and climbing trees and that kind of thing, my sis would never do anything that's not allowed:yawn: (ok, she really wasn't boring, I usually just say that to tease her, and my mum :p)

I have a parttime contract so don't have fixed hours ;) It sucks :p
