Living in a country which is on the Pacific Ring of Fire, I have experienced stronger earthquakes but I have to admit this was my first time to be inside a high-rise building while there's one. The news said it was just intensity 3 in our city (epicenter was was 5.4) but now I know it's true that you feel the tremors more when you're up high a building than on the ground. :oh:

Yeah her voice is a little throaty. That's why country fit her that well ;)

It was more of a rockchick concert than country for sure:cool: But there were still some ballads as well, and she did a 3 song acoustic set as well.

Thanks for your kind words Gaspa! Actually, my opinion doesn't matter any more or less than any others, your true credits come from the girls loving your work, not me.

I'm a Researcher at Athens University, in Politics & International Relations. However, I run an amateur poetry club because, simply put, I love poetry. And I do write and critique on various dramatic prose. If you're really interested in putting your stuff out there, please let me know. Below, you can find a link on a literary review which features me.

wow...i'm really...impressed! that's like an amazing job, a very detailed enciclopedy of poetry!
honestly i'm very shy when it comes about sharing my works, i've been worked on a novel for few years now (you know we always have so few times left to write that even though you have the ideas, it's hard to write them down), but lately i've turned to poetry because of its quickness and istant power.
i wrote few things in the past monthes so I'm not sure what should i do with them :lol: the largest part are in italian but as i study languages i found it a good training to translate them all in english

I completely agree with you as per the instant power, that's actually what got me into poetry to begin with!

Trust me, I'm not the most outgoing person on the planet either, but seriously, when you feel you want to get stuff out there, I can definitely point you in the right direction. Unfortunately, I don't speak Italian but I have a very good friend who is at the University of Perugia who I am sure would be more than willing to help. She is actually a linguist, so she would be way more qualified to evaluate your material. Just let me know, ok?

i wanted to share a graphic-poem i made quite a while ago :awww: don't be too harsh

http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/3951/poem1.jpg

I'm very impressed Gaspa. I don't post in this sub-forum much these days but this was so impressive I had to post. As a poetry major and native speaker I think this is a lovely poem. I would change the "cuz" to "because". The colloquial feel of "cuz" doesn't match the emotional depth of the rest of the poem. And yes, the third line is hard to read, but I like the background picture.

Really, it's very nice. Your writing must be very expressive in Italian.

thank you :awww: i really have no words to describe the feelings you guys gave me, i'm not used to open my heart to everyone that's why i've never posted anything i wrote before, but it gave me a big joy to see you all like my poem.

about the "cuz" i know that and i wasn't really sure whether to use it or the classical because for, but the second one -even though it's more poetical- doesn't sound too well IMO and makes the line too long.

Personally I don't think the line is too long with "because". It is more poetic, as you say (English speakers rarely use the word "poetical" ), and it's nice to have a longer line to precede the last shorter one. However, if you do want to keep it short, I definitely feel that "cuz" or "cos" are too colloquial. It's not that type of poem. Perhaps a synonym like "since" or "for" will be more to your taste.

I hate you since I can't love you
I hate you for I can't love you

I don't seem to have time to write poetry myself these days, but I must make some time for it. It's very rewarding. Hard to make a living out of it though. It would be interesting to be able to read Italian poetry. I used to study the ancient Roman poets in Latin, but the language has changed a fair bit since then.

:lol: You're sweet:smooch:

I had promised myself to clean my kitchen today and had already been distracted enough, so had to get it done first;) Luckily it's small.

So, from World of Hurt:
* I'm not so tough (the first single she ever released)
* World of Hurt
* I'd be yours
* Flying solo
* Tap dancing on the highwire
These are all pretty classic country ;) The first 3 were the hits of this album

From Livin on love:
* When you put it like that
* I still cry (that is far from my fave, in fact I think it's boring, but it's a classic so I guess you have to listen to it)

From Dear John:
* Have a little faith in me
That's a live John Hiatt tribute album, of course you gotta listen to her version of Have a little faith in me

Clean Up:
you don't have to listen to anything from this:tape:

Here I am:
* Wouldn't that be something
* All the answers (look for a live version, they are better than the studio version)

The great escape:
* The great escape
* The lonely one
* Reach for the light
She had a couple of tough years and this is where her comeback began - and she got bigger than she'd ever been

Incredible:
I already said it but:
* Miracle
* Something amazing
* We're alright

Next to me:
* Next to me (if you like So incredible, you should like this one too)
* Beautiful distraction (pretty ballad. Nothing beats Miracle, but still;))
* Carousel
* Time out

I mainly listed the singles, as they are the most famous. And generally she picks good singles IMO.
That should keep you busy for a while;)

Me and my friend kind of relate to it especially to this quote from the movie: They don't even know what it is to be a fan. Y'know? I remember quite a while back (when I was actually a student), a very good friend of mine was a fan of Mike Tyson, the boxer. Being his fan was entirely mundane in my view, because this poor soul would wake up at some ungodly hour, endure an hour of pre-game hype to watch Tyson deck some hapless soul in under a minute or two of boxing action! At least with Flavia, you never know WHAT you will get or how she will perform. Frustrating? Yes. But ultimately, definitely worth watching. Even if lately she has kind of tanked... A very good morning to all.

Most of my friends before I got into tennis doesn't like sports as well. It's only when I learned to play it that I started having sporty friends.

LOL at the tattoo. Hey what's wrong with getting a tattoo? Flavia has tattoos. :p Though if you ask me I can't imagine getting one. I'm no Lisbeth Salander when it comes to that. :lol:
Hmm so maybe that would help;)

Karla, I loved Peanuts, not so much the comic strips as some of the animated stuff, Charlie Brown and what have you. And respect goes not only to Peanuts, but also to the Philippines.

Gaspa, enjoy the skiing, sorry, my brain is all over the shop today, clearly not with the programme and what few braincells are left are not operating :lol::help:

Yeah I was hoping you would catch on to my implied suggestion. :secret: Linda learn to play tennis. :lol:

:oh: really. A permanent one? If you don't mind me asking where? I find tattoos to be dirty when there's too much on the body. Like the entire leg or arm. It looks good on some people but mostly it doesn't.

I think it would be a bit silly if 10yrs from now your friend does not like that team anymore and she'd be stuck with that tattoo. :oh: Or maybe it's a good keepsake for her. ;)

You can still have it re-stringed at a lower tension and make good use of it. ;) Unless of course that racquet already has a crack then better not to use it anymore. I have to say though the KBlade is not a racquet for beginners but what the hell you just need it to whack a tennis ball. :lol:

I'm not sure about Bawan but I know Matabungakai and it's correctly spelled as Matabungkay. ;) I've been there a lot. It's where you can rent a big raft so you can hang out a bit far from the shore. Yes, on summer time you can really appreciate swimming on the beach as it gets ridiculously hot and humid in here. :lol:

And I've checked on Google, Bawan is actually Bauan. :oh: Matabungkay and Bauan are both in Batangas. It's a good place to go for nice beaches. Unlike Boracay, it's not as far from Manila.

I'm actually partly Filipino and partly Chinese (my mom is 1/2 Filipino, 1/2 Chinese). I'm not sure how much of my Filipino blood have Hispanic genes, but we have been a Spanish colony for 300+ years so there must be something there. :lol: Unlike most of my cousins, I don't have the pale complexion of Chinese people. There is only one suitable answer to this: She has other qualities
I mean, she must, right?:lol: :o

You know it :facepalm:

Hey, in her defense, she's got fight. Actually, I'm quite impressed during this second set, she's clearly trying...I can see why you might be drawn to her...It's still :confused: though! :)

Oh yes she got fight. Plenty of it. Unfortunately, this year it's often all she got, and it can only take you that far ;)
But with Sara, a match is never over, no matter how far behind (or up:o) she is.

I love when she gets all pumped up and loud like in this set:lol: It's too funny.

If there's one thing that Sara has, its her fighting spirit. Plus she's one of those players who (usually) plays to the best of her abilities. In a tour full of talented underachievers, that for me is a refreshing change. Unfortunately most of the time her lack of serve is too much for her to overcome.

Parents........;)

LOL @ that MP. Cirstea attacking while Sara is 3 meters away from the baseline and just looping everything back. Cirstea probably thinking in the end..."the hell with it I'm just going to hit this BH CC as hard as I can and see what happens." And the ball goes right into the net. Sorana. :smash: :haha:

MEMOIRS OF THE DAY

Was quite an experience to see Errani play
Actually, with no Flavia, it kind of made the 'tennis' day
in between chatting of tanning and skin
watching her play brought someone a Cheshire grin

Thank you Fran for posting the freak
looking at that picture really made me eek
seeing Bartoli's bottom is like getting hit by a nuke
now I can't ever watch her play without resorting to puke

So now we sit tight and weight for Fed Cup
at least with all you around no chance of being fed-up
for you are all class, amusing and fun
salutations 'till tomorrow and the very next pun

(Disclamer: no disrespect meant to the under-nuclear-threat Japanese. And, I guess, Mademoiselle Bartoli, her parents, or people who may actually envision dating her in the future or consider her remotely attractive).

A very happy Birthday to you Linda! Health, wealth and happiness above all, from the bottom of my heart. :kiss:

This calls for a Birthday Ode!

MOOIE

May today be a day to rejoice in glee
for some years ago you came to be
who would have known that when you were born
a moderator you would become, loved and adorn

May today bring you everything and forever more
and love and happiness right to the core
for think of us all as friends and brethren
know that, in Dutch, we all you 'koesteren'!

So to end this brief Ode as works calls, it's true
let's end it with what's best: Linda, we love you.

(I pulled in the sole Dutch kid I have on my Erasmus course and asked him to give me the Dutch words for beauty and cherish, if they are wrong, blame him, not me! He already thinks I'm weird enough as it is, but I hope the words fit it in their appropriate form) :worship:

^^^ I was thinking of asking Van Basten (that's not his real name, that's what I call him, it's Klaas or something, obv. but he was my favourite Dutch football player) to translate the whole thing into Dutch but given that I'm supposed to maintain some form of integrity, he'd then think I'd completely lost the ol' marbles and was courting some hapless Dutch girl over the internet. Doesn't quite meet with the image these kids need to have of me. Perhaps in the future, if this other Dutch girl comes on board next semester, I'll do one in Dutch. We'll see. Have a great great day girl...

Cool suggestion, but for two months he's been van Basten, so I'll stick to that. I've just promised him extra credit if he can track down some Beginners Dutch Linguaphone cds from the Library. Given that he spends most of his day chasing after the female students, it's a welcome offer :lol: I'm intrigued by the pronunciation of words, no chance I'll ever learn the lingo, but it would be quite neat if I could write a couple of sentences in Dutch... There's a pass time for you! (and a clear indication that I have no life left :lol:) Oh, and btw, did you know that Zamboni also make road-sweepers as well as ice-machines? I saw one on the street this morning and thought of you. Not that in any way I'm suggesting that the road-sweeper has anything to do with you, just the name. Fuck, well, you get what I'm saying...:kiss:
