Assuming that venus and sharapova both qualify as 7th and 8th respectively, how is the draw for the groups sorted? :help:

Is it just done at random or would one group be henin, kutz, serena and sharpova and the other be jank, ivan, chat and venus?

What do you think would be the most interesting semi final line up out of the above ? Personally i feel both williams, henin and maybe kutz or one of the serbs would be the best 4 but it depends how the draw is done really!!

Lemme no what ya fink :D

The draw is done by the actual rankings at the time, and not the race rankings. The groups are usually split up into 1,3,5, & 8 in one group, and 2, 4, 6, & 7 in the other.

I may assume that it's random.
Of course 1 won't meet 2, and 3 won't meet 4 etc. But I don't believe the group is already known by a look at the ranking.

Judging from last year's final results they likely draw in pairs to create the two groups. They put 1 and 2 seeds into a hat and then draw them out so one goes into one group and one into the other. This is repeated for the next two (3 and 4) the next two (5 and 6) and the final pair as well.
It is possible that you could get a result as in 1,3,5,7 and 2,4,6,8 but that is just one result and you can see from last year's draw that it was not exactly like this.
In 2006 it was 1,3,5,8 and 2,4,6,7.
so the last pair was reversed.

Ahh yeh that seems possible! Unless they put the 8th in with the 1st deliberately since you would otherwise gain nothing from being no.1?
I think it would be fairer to just go by rank but its not as exciting really..
