2006 Final: (8)LUXXXAS(POL) def. (1)SpikeyAidanM(AUS);
Day 05 Invalid Over Day 05 Invalid

Guidelines for Death.

1. You know the rules. Or else, you would not have made it this far.

2. For Madrid, the rules will be slightly different than our conventional Suicide murderous tournaments. For the four days of round robin play, you can pick ANY player you wish -- but only once during this four day period -- like any other tournament. However, on SEMIFINAL day, your picks will be RESET and you may pick any of the 4 remaining players; even if you did or did not choose them previously.

For example, if your 4 days read like this: ( Henin, S.Williams, V.Williams, Ivanovic ), on Semifinal day, you may choose any remaining competitor, including Henin, Serena, Venus, and Ivanovic. If your pick wins on SF day, you advance to the final where you would choose the other person available.

Easy, right? Try and make it out of round robin play first.

3. All must bow and praise In The Zone and Britney's album BLACKOUT which comes out on October 30th.

4. If for some reason one or even two of the 8 entrants do not enter on Tuesday, the alternates, which will be designated, will play in their place. If an alternate # 1 is not available, alternate # 2 will be used. # 9 and # 10 in the race will be used as alternates # 1 and # 2.

Ranking Points for Year-End Suicide Championships (YECs)

RR: DAY 01 - 1
RR: DAY 02 - 72
RR: DAY 03 - 101
RR: DAY 04 - 130
SF: DAY 05 - 235
F: DAY 06 - 369
WINNING - 525

In The Zone's Blacked Out 2007 Preview.

La crème de la crème, the Britney Spears of Pop Music ( ;) ), the World Series of Baseball – your entire year has come down to this. You’ve made it to 2007’s crown jewel. All your efforts have led you down the ranking point-gilded road to Madrid and In The Zone’s Madrid Conference Room [ Closet ] where you must formally present your Madrid picks!

Brothers and sisters, lend me your ears, I have a tale to tell. A tale of how eight players who performed well in some places and absolutely horrid in some – but somehow managed to preserve their lives in a game entitled “Suicide”. And poor Tomek and In The Zone, alternates are not written into the original script. :(

#1. mat87to
Titles: San Diego, Zurich
After a quiet fall season, mat87to stormed his way back into the Suicide spotlight, ascending to the throne of the game once more after he claimed his second Tier I title this year at Zurich ( San Diego being the first ). With impressive runs deep at Miami and nearly claiming the title at Roland Garros and Flushing Meadows, mat87to leads the trio of Italians attempting at claiming the Suicide game. However, the other two [ Smokovec and FORZA PENNETTA ] have given all their ammunition to mat87to this week to claim the Madrid title. Looking for his Henin-esque arsenal, mat87to looks to end the year # 1 with 3 other players on his tail.

#2. Drake1980
Titles: 0
One of those players on mat87to’s tail is Drake1980. He has quietly yet surely been one of the most consistent and dangerous Suicide players on tour this year. Surviving that Round of 16 disaster at the Australian, Drake1980 made it to the Final 4 before bowing out. With strong results at all the Slams and many of the Tier Is, Drake1980’s grasp on his first week at # 1 is within reach. Can he snatch it? Well, as our Svetlana Kuznetsova, we don’t need to say the answer aloud.

#3. timray
Titles: 0
Timray has dominated the Suicide tour for nearly the entire year before finally letting go of the # 1 ranking shortly after the USO before reclaiming. Losing it after mat87to’s impressive Zurich run, timray needs a strong Madrid performance to ascend to his number one slot. Chic and quiet, timray has silently dismantled and destroyed the Suicide fields as he seemingly is always left standing after all the recent mass Suicides.
Perhaps he may be wishing for Chakvetadze to score the victory over Miss Henin, whatever it may be, our silent Jankovic always makes it deep in every tournament but can he win them now? Madrid would be a great place to begin.

#4. MH0861
Titles: Amelia Island, Los Angeles
What can you say about the person who led our Race from Birmingham to the end of the year? Maybe you can say – DO BETTER AT THE SLAMS. Our MH0861 supports our tour, signing autographs and going deep in our little events. But in our golden events, MH0861 always seem to fall victim to young starlets. Nicole Vaidisova has tamed our little MH0861 but she is not in Madrid so this could mean doom for the rest of the field as MH0861 is looking for his biggest title to date. Potentially, if MH0861 can outlast the previously stated three, he could ascend to his first week as the King of Suicide. However, like Ana, many doubts still loom over their head. Can the doubts be erased? With Ana’s cakewalk draw, the stars may be the # 4 seed’s side.

# 5. star
Titles: Linz
Recently adding Linz to his 2007 titles list, star is Drake1980 version 2.0. Silently adding and accumulating points at every tour event but keeping his name low key has been his story. However, at Linz, he finally made himself known by winning his lone title of the 2007 season. With strong results all around, star is looking to end his 2007 year with a climatic end in Madrid. At a career high rank, star’s push up the rankings would reach new heights if he can continue to match his 2007 form in Madrid. As our Serena Williams, you cannot count star out. But their game will need to reach a new level at this tournament. Or perhaps star will lose to mat87to yet again. We shall see.

#6. vamos Israel
Titles: 0
Seemingly nonexistent in the fall season, vamos Israel locked up his Madrid position after the massive suicides at Zurich. Shalom Israel! Welcome your top ranked player who has led the Israeli fanbase into being a top ten fixture in the Suicide ranks. Like star, vamos Israel has silently been dominating the ranks and points in the later part of the 2007 season, racking up vital tour event points to secure his Madrid ticket. His mandatory event totals are very weak but that means nothing. Once in Madrid, everyone is on an equal playing field. At # 6, like Maria Sharapova, there is a lot to prove. Will they create another flop or be the surprise of the tournament?

#7. cypher_88
Titles: US Open, Luxembourg
Talk about beginning your 2007 campaign a little late. Cypher_88 clearly made his name known as he stormed to claim the American Slam in early September and then later added Luxembourg to his trophy cabinet a few weeks later. A strong performance in Moscow sealed cypher_88’s Madrid flight. Looking to cap off his 2007 with a solid performance in Madrid, our little Anna Chakvetadze may be out of steam. 0-3 maybe? Cypher_88 may want to stem away from his WTA-parallel.

#8. NyCPsU
Titles: Rome, Beijing, Stuttgart
Also with a fall season charge like cypher_88, our Daniela Hantuchova stormed to the Stuttgart title and barely hung on to his eighth slot. With Daniela winning her first title outside of Indian Wells, things are only looking better for NyCPsU, who despite taking a dip in the rankings, is the wildcard of the eight. While throwing in some forgettable weeks here and there, NyCPsU can have one of those Daniela 5-Year Spells and bring magic into one week. If there ever was one week to have some magic, NyCPsU may want to have that potion now.

As each day progresses, our eyes will turn to the 2007 Year-End Number 1 Race.
Good luck and Post Your Picks! Don’t get hurt this winter, we need you back for 2008!

It's added as an extra event. It's not unfair. And seeds make the rankings meaningful or else this game would be as meaningless as FITD.

We have our finalists. # 7 Cypher_88 and # 8 NyCPsU. Who will win? Day 4 features many dead rubbers. Should be interesting.
# 1 ranking goes to mat87to since all 4 lost on the same day.

i wont be here the rest of the weekend so I need to make my picks ahead of time:

Assuming Jankovic wins tomorrow:

Semifinal Pick: Ivanovic/Sharapova (whoever plays Chakvetadze)
Final Pick: Henin (if Henin loses in semis, Ivanovic/Sharapova, the one who beat her obviously)

thanks, i hope this makes sense. :)

and thanks inthezone for running a great tournament. :worship:
