Maria drew Julia Vakulenko in the first round. Could play the winner of Bammer vs. Sugiyama.

I like this draw better then her previous 2. Hopefully Maria can revenge her loss at the USO and i think a match against Bammer is winnable if she plays well, Good Luck Masha.

The draw isn`t bad looking for Makiri. If she can get back to the good form she showed in Asia, i can see her going on a nice run. I really hope that Makiri can get it back going in Linz.

Vakulenko is a tricky player to judge, but Masha has a good chance to make the quarter-final.

Maria had double BP for a *52 lead in the third. Once she didn't convert, she fell apart.
Oct 23rd, 2007, 05:57 PM
I can't believe she lost that  i was so sure she would win when she won the second set.
come back strong next year
Oct 23rd, 2007, 06:34 PM
this is so sad! she tryed so hard in the 2d set! I hope she'll come back on the court next year with her new title and her final in her mind rather than this 3 lost in the first round...

What a disappointing loss for Makiri. I still can`t believe that she blew this match. This is a disappointing end to the year. I hope that she can get it together in the offseason so that she can come back strong next year.

Masha. :o I hope it's just a bit fatigue but still! This is getting a bit out of hand. :scared:

Maria had very wierd year...Incredible weak start- 9 1R loses till Wimbledon, then amazing summer with victories against top20 and even top10 players and second single title in carrer, and again weak end with 0-5 losing matches...Shes very inconsistent now...

I'm tempted to be an angry fan as there are only so many consecutive defeats you can deal with. However..............
4 of the 5 defeats have occured in 3 sets. In each match Masha lost the 1st set and rallied in the 2nd - as happened against Hantuchova aswell. So 2 things strike me. The first is that Masha needs to start playing from the first point and not waste the first 6 games of a match. There was an amazing similarity between the Radwanska and Vakulenko matches. The second point is that she has been weak in final set deciders. After 23 tournaments this year and plenty of doubles play, she is in need of a long break.
I'm still hoping she will be seeded for Australia and after Wimbledon I would have settled for that.

I m sad about her last weeks she played so well this summer !!!
I hope she'll take some holidays and then start working and training again for 2008.
(I saw on MTF that Andreev withdraw today or yesterday for Paris Masters Series which start on Monday.).
Oct 24th, 2007, 08:29 PM
Were you hoping that Masha might go to Paris to watch the tennis. I doubt Andreev withdrawing is going to send shockwaves through the tennis world.

What the hell Makiri?!? What's going on here??? A very disappointing result I must say indeed. This definitely is not the way you want to closeout the tennis season especially with 3-4 consecutive 1st round losses. Like most players, you want to have some sort of momentum to build upon for next season. You want to end the year strong and on a positive note. This early round loss only brings up questions about Makiri's game for next year. I think Makiri saw the light at the end of the tunnel and already decided to pack things in for 2007. I think Igor decided the same thing and withdrew to be at her side. I just don't like the way she finished off the season with such lack luster performances. To be honest, it really pisses me off! Btw, is Makiri's coach, Nick Van Harpen still going to get her a dog he promised her in San Diego or L.A.???
