What will the top ten look like at the end of the year?
These are my picks:

1)Serena "Domination" Williams
[gap...]
2)Venus "Get your butt back here on Earth" Williams
[big gap...]
3)Monica "the Grunt" Seles
4)Jennifer "Yay Matthew Perry got an emmy nomination" Capriati
[small gap]
5)Justine "big things come in small packages, yes they do" Henin
[small gap]
6)Amelie "im so sad for tennis" Mauresmo
7)Daniela "pregnancy has its positives" Hantuchova
8)Martina "i wont give her a name some people might get offended" Hingis
9-10 Kim Clijsters-Hewitt or Lindsay Davenport

(remember this is just my opinion)

VenusSerena

1.Venus-hoping b/c even though Serena has one the slams this year, venus did the same last year, and the stupid system kept her from even getting to number 1 or 2 even.
2.Serena- most likely number 1 at the end of year
3.Seles- i dont see her having any problems with capriati if they meet
4.Capriarti- never to me was a cinderella story, always had played well, just had a slip up....now another
5.Lindsay- think she will come back strong, but not strong enought to jump back to the top.
6.Clijsters- well they way she has been playing she isn't top 10 material to me, but i think she is better than henin on hard courts
7.Henin- well the same thing goes for her like clijsters, form starting to get worse, not chaning for the better yet.
8.Mauresmo- keep up the good work, she just needs to put more good matches together, she has the potential to be number 9.
9.Hingis- should've gotten treatment earlier if she knew about the injury, thus her lowest rank at the end of the year is coming this year.
Hantuchova- who knows, just the floater for number 10!

if the wta limited how many tournaments a player can compete in, Jelena Dokic, would be ranked between 11-20...
right now she has played 30 tournaments, which would be 30 weeks plus four extra extra weeks for grand slams, plus two weeks for indian wells and miami, which is 36 weeks out of 52 weeks in a year minus 3 FED Cup weeks, minus another 3 weeks of break during the end of the year...so she plays 36 out of 46 weeks possible...which is almost 80% of active play in a year:eek:

I think that its going to be almost mathematically impossible for martina to get back to number one by the end of the year, but her best chance is after the NASDAQ-100 Open...next year

Only her best 17 tournaments count! So the fact that she's playing 30+ tournis has no effect on her ranking. She gets prize money and match practice out of it - not more ranking points.

Katulampa Prediction

01. Serena WILLIAMS
She'll stay on the #.1 spot for the rest of 2002 season.

02. Monica SELES
She's the one who can be #.2 for the year ending 2002 season, that depending how good is Venus performance at U.S Open (she has to depending her US Open champion ranking points (approx 900 Pts) and of course, Monica has to have a great result as well for the Up coming summer Tournament before US Open & US Open!

03. Venus WILLIAMS
As I said before, Will she depend her US Open Champion?

04. Jennifer CAPRIATI
She'll be staying #.4 or maybe she could be down #.5...???

05. Justine HENIN

06. Lindsay DAVENPORT

07. Jelena DOKIC

08. Kim CLIJSTERS

09. Martina HINGIS

10. Daniela HANTUCHOVA

Jericho
Jul 18th, 2002, 11:39 PM
monica is not defending montreal (tier one) points which she made the semi's, venus is playing brazil which monica won last year, monica also cant defend her shanghai title due to whack scheduling...she only has a slight chance of getting #2

Berlin_Calling

looking at how many tournaments the top ten players paricipate in, i threw out the lowest (davenport) and the highest (dokic) and found the average which was about 17 tournaments (aint that a coincidence)...
say dokic was limited to 17...

Plan A: Play all Tier One (possible 9 she plays all nine) and Two tournaments (possible 17 she plays) and 4 Grand slams
This Year Tier Two-
1) Paris - finals
2) Antwerp - first round*
3) Amelia Island - semis
4) Hamburg - semis
5) Eastbourne - first round*

This Year - Tier One:
6) Tokyo lost first round*
7) Indian Wells lost 3rd round*
8) Miami lost second round*
9) Charleston lost 1st round*
10) Berlin lost 3rd Round*
11) Rome lost 3rd Round*
*all losses were to players ranked lower than her
This Year - Grand Slams
12) French Open - quarters
13) Wimbledon-R16*

- she would have 4 tournaments left to play

Plan B: Play Some tier one, some tier two, mostly tier 3's, and 4 grand slams.
- This is what schedules player ranked 11-30 play!!

Analysis:
- Gets good results in lower tier events
- If she would play less it would give her extra energy
- MY OPINION IS PLAYING TO MUCH WILL HURT YOU

are people serious expecting Lindsay to dominate for the rest of the season? she needs to catch up a lot when she wants to reach the 10 at the end of the year, she needs to play the same as she did last fall and wouldn't that be hard after surgery?
If she would achieve that, it would be a great achievement!

My prediction:
1. S. Williams
2. V. Williams
3. M. Seles
4. J. Capriati (I predict she will be mentally exhausted for the rest of the year)
5. J. Henin
6. J. Dokic
7. A. Mauresmo
8. K. Clijsters
9. M. Hingis
10. D. Hantuchova/E. Dementieva/S. Farina-Elia
If Farina can gain 200-300 points from the clay tournaments before the US Open, I would pick her for the no. 10, since she should do better indoor than Dementieva, so Hantuchova is Farina's real threat for No.10.
Davenport probably ends up in No.11-15.

wow, i predicted amelie to be out the top ten by year, looks like that won't happen anytime soon.

anymore predictions?

Oct 1st, 2002, 09:00 PM
1. Serena Williams (Major Duh she is guranteed no. 1 at the end of the year now)
2. Venus Williams (I was going to go with Jenny Cap but now that she prooved her stupidity by pulling out of Moscow, that just isn't gonna happen)
3. Jennifer Capriati (Should still rack up enough points to stay 3)
4. Monica Seles- has enough points to be here
5. Kim Clijsters- Is showing signs of life Indoors
6. Amelie Mauresmo- I am still in denial that she is top ten
7. Justine Henin- Is also showing signs of life
8. Daniela Hantuchova- only cause everyone else will tailspin
9. Chanda Rubin- No points to defend+awesome tennis= top ten
10. Lindsay Davenport- Should be number three, but that is a technical impossibility until about Oz.
11. Jelena Dokic- Playing like a bad word+over 1000 points to defend= out of top ten
12. Martina Hingis- Moonballs+ any points to defend= bye bye top ten.

8/9/10 are interchangible, as are 4/5/6/7, and to a lesser extent 2/3
