Consistently I mean, like enough to get up to 20 winners in a match.
Players I've seen do it in the past year or so include ,,,,

Serena, Justine, Kim (I'll take help with this) Lindsay, Monica, Elena D (I think) ...

Anna possibly did it...I think in Key Biscane in the finals and maybe in Stanford when Venus won 6-4, 7-5.

I could be wrong...I'm not much into Anna:o

Daniel - Been a while in Martina's case, hasn't it?

depends where the match is played on

I'd say alot more people would be able to hit winners on the red stuff due to wrong footing.

Nadia Petrova ....... she played some awesome tennis at start of yr vs Venus.

Serena, Lindsay, Justine consistently (although even this is dependent on surface).

Jen (only because Venus is not as aggressive as Serena), Kim, Elena D inconsistently. I included Kim cos she defeated Venus at Hamburg.

Jen and Elena D's forehands will always cause Venus problems.

Oooops nearly forgot Monica, but she would fall in inconsistent category.

Me~~~ ;)

If Venus let me get into the ball, I'm sure I can hit baseline winners with my forehand. ( My forehand flat stroke is the only part of my tennis game I'm proud of. ) :p

Maybe,.... Andre, Pete or Safin can do that.

LOL.

I think a lot of people forget how hard Dokic hits the ball.

excuse me! conchita can slice any shots down the line and dropshots off first serves or any deepshot!

Nadia can blast winners on both sides, hits very flat, and with her pretty solid serve can pick up easy 2nd balls

A winner with Venus standing on the baseline can be anything from a volley winner, dropshot,
a weak return...... which would make the 2nd shot pretty easy
wrong footing shot.
Smash

in theory yes ........ but to actually do it is another matter

Has anyone hit more than 20 winners past her ???

Jen wont hit more than 15 winners against Venus, not because she cant, because shes not aggressive enough.
Monica can.
Dokic likes hitting to the body.
Lindsay can only when she is on.
Kim same with Lindsay.
Justine same as Kim & Lindsay.

When I was at the B&L AI, I saw Myskina hitting ALL kinds of winners past Venus & I was really surprised to see it. Myskina just needed to be more consistent, the whole match.

Venus said she felt as if she was playing the "#1 player in the world" over the loud speaker, after the match.

Jelena didn't do it.

Monica did it. Jennifer didn't. Lindsay did. Serena did. Kim did. Justine did.

Yeah Anastasia can hit winners from nowhere on her backhand :D

Martina, Lindsay, Jennifer, Serena, Dokic, Monica, Kim, Justine. Any can hit winners against Venus.

She isn't a wall.

Read the post CB... it says consistently... like 20 a match. I recall that Jennifer only had 4 against Venus in their last match.

Not too many would be able to get a clean winner past Venus on the baseline coz she always seems to get her racquet on everything at least. I would say the players who are able to hit hard with good angle shots like Monica Seles and Serena Williams. I havent seen Kim vs Venus lately so i cant comment on that.

That's what surprised me about Myskina that match. She must have hit 10 to 15 clean winners, plus some off the tip of the racquet winners. Myskina was 2 feet off the ground everytime she hit the ball too. hehe

It was fun to watch both of them. Venus hit some good shots too, but I expected to see that.

Kim can do it. Kim can work the point to where she recieves the ball near the left sideline, about 1 step in front of the baseline, and sets herself to scream a crosscourt forehand that I have never seen anyone even attempt to reach. It's one of the most exciting shots in the game IMO, and certainly her most exciting.

conchita :

Well Venus would probably do an error with Conchita's deep balls.. Venus usually reaches into all her slices, and yes it's tough to return them cause they are very low.

Probably an error, not a winner.

Monica has had the best results in hitting winners against Venus the past two times they played.

Serena and Lindsay do it consistently enough. Monica hit a surprising # in their Aussie qtrfinal match. Justine on a good day, especially on clay.

I think a lot of players can hit a winner against Venus if they want to but only players who play agressive will achieve this.

realistically, if u are talking about being able to:

consistently hit 20 or more winners against venus: be: LINDSAY, MONICA, SERENA

has the capability but isn't consistent enough: Mary Pierce, Kim Clijsters(she couldn't do it at us open but she did at hamburg, its about whether she is playing well or not)

can do it if having a good day: Elena Dementiava(didn't she hit 19 in key biscyane? thats close), Martina hingis(she hit 20 winners against venus in wimbledon 2000, of course, that was on fast surface and was a LONG match), Jelena Dokic, Daniela Hantuchova, Justine and all the other almost power players.

has the ablility to hit consistently but juss doesn't go for it enough: JENNIFER C.

Hingis hit a LOT of winners against Venus in their last match, and the unfortunate cost was that Miss Consistency hit more unforced errors than Venus Williams.

really?? how many winners and unforced errors did she hit? Thats a step forward if she hit A LOT of winners, now all she has to do is hit less errors.
