Are there any players that you WOULD like, BUT

The fans of that player on WTAWorld cause you to not support them or dislike them?

No, I am perfectly capable of forming my own opinion, thank you.
I just look at their performance when playing the game.

nah not really. i look at the players themselves and judge for myself

when I'm not bothered about a player, the fact their fans are nice and I get on well with them surely helps.
So answer is yes.

... i wont even reply to that one ; i have many comebacks for it.

no not really, i just judge for myself. I just look at their style of game and what it interests me in them, their character and sportsmanship. I mean why would you hate a player just because they have bad fans. I mean almost any top player has a few horrible fans or more, but its not like they are directly related to any of the players. So it wouldn't be cool judging a player by his/her's "fan" opinion.

No offence to anyone, BUT- if someone stopped supporting player only becouse her fans on interet board (that means people who You dont even know in person) are annoying, then something must be really wrong with that user :help: :weirdo:

no, I base my favoritism on results:
If they constantly get beaten by my fav - me like:D
If they constantly beat my fav - me hate

This is the only type of valid response to this thread. A "no" response, would, I'm afraid, give this debate credibility, as if a "yes" answer if somehow rational or acceptable.

The players I dislike I've disliked far before I found/joined WTAWorld. But, some fans of those disliked players do make me dislike them more.

yeah a bit, before I liked serena more. I cheered for her all the way at the A.O until the final of course;). But when I joined here all her fans were always attacking my fav, so I don't support her anymore

I don't root for Henin or Sharapova sometimes because of their fans in general. I root for Maria now.. but stopped post-USO 2006 because of all the hype.
I dont' root for Henin because everyone's jumping on the bandwagon now and because she's winning too much, making a lot of her fans cocky and arrogant(some, not all).

yes but only a little bit - cos sometimes its hard not to unintentionally associate a player with their fans. when a big fan of a particular player says something offensive or rude about another player in relation to their fav or excessively gloats about their fav etc, it just makes me hope that that player loses.

im a hypocrite if i will say no because the truth is, it does sometimes affect me...
i only have one fave so im neutral with regards to other players...but i sometimes find myself rooting against them because of the "fan" factor so...

Well, maybe a little bit, in the case of Jelena. Her fans are the best. :)

Meteor Shower
Oct 18th, 2007, 11:02 AM
It does affect me and its natural.
When I see a player succeedes and all his fans gloats and act like :weirdo:s then next time i will root against them to lose, and vice versa.

Tough to believe that all those 40% really aren't affected, but who knows

edit: just wanted to add, thats it really depends on how much i like the player. of course if its a fave then i will still root for them, but if i don't care about them that much then its matters.

I really like Jelena but her fans are definitely not the best. In fact, I feel I'd support her even more if it wasn't for some of her annoying fans here, or to be more specific, just the ones who seem to hold a grudge against Vee for no good reason

no. you can't make everybody happy and i should know cause some of my fav's (rena, juju, vee) have the most haters. :o

ouch - i get why they would root for the players but sadly some fans root for the players so they can gloat and insult other player fans and thats kind of wrong ...

I form my own opinion like the next person but at times a players fans can sort of turn you off to them

ex. Sharapova I would like her but when she wins something big I can't even post on this board but I think when my faves retire she'll be next in line if Ivanovic or a good american doesnt come along to doesnt change my mind

I tend to dislike over the top fans, regardless of the player they're a fan of. But when a fan base has an unusually large number of over the top fans, and the player doesn't seem to deserve it (sometimes Hantuchova gets a little too much love, Ivanovic did until the AO, Vaidisova perpetually has although not lately), the constant talk gets grating. Doesn't make me less a fan of the player necessarily, as I'll still enjoy watching them play, but I'm less inclined to defend them over the internet (for example ;) ) or whatever.
