I don't know what the hell happened to her after that first set. In the first set she was serving soooo well. Only 1 doublefault and 75% first serves:eek: She was flowing with confidence and you could see it. But after that, her whole game fell apart:help: First her returns, then forehand(her normally best stroke) and after that her serve. She started to have a negative attitude after every point(mostly UE's). I was really shocked, she just wasn't there after that first set.

After Moscow, I have to say this loss is like finding out the free Ferrari you found parked in your driveway yesterday has a scratch on the back bumper.

Lena usually has a letdown after a big win, and Fran always plays her well so I'm not surprised.

Like I said in the ED Fan Club, nothing that happens on a tennis court is going to ruin this week for me.

Firstly, whoever was talking about this being a terrible match, I totally disagree! Lots of great points, and an epic third game in set 2 was full of great serving by FS. You could visibly see ED losing confidence in her serve, which was a shame, but from the very first set, she looked a little slow - and that is crucial to her game. A few balls you really thought she would run down, she left. Credit to FS, she played extremely solidly. I only saw the first 4 games of the final set and came online to check out the score. Why did ED retire? Injury or just weariness? She definitely looked tired.

i would like to see a post by an elena fan where it is stated that elena is pete sampras with tittes and blonde hair.
federer is a comparison that you could definitely make a case for, as he is on her level of greatness, but no logical fan would compare elena to a loser like pete sampras.

It's...amusing that this 2-hour long horror show is Lena D.'s idea of a tank job. The outcome was never in doubt - it was obvious from the beginning that Lena D. was completely spent, both physically and mentally. How she managed to take the 1st set is beyond me. Mostly due to good serving (no kidding), I guess. The match itself was almost comically bad. I had no idea what was going on in that endless game at 2-0 2nd set. Maybe Schiavone had noticed that Lena D. was dead tired, and so made the game drag to drain her even further?

After reading the largely sporting and congratulatory comments posted by Serena fans after Lena's win in Moscow, I wondered where her more oafish followers had gotten to. And here they are, taking cheap shots at Lena for losing in the same round as Ree in another tournament.

What's the hate coming from, people? She beats Serena fair and square in a Moscow final and you don't expect her fans to be ecstatic? No one ever said she was going to win a slam (I hope not anyway) after that win, if anyone mentioned slams it's that since she's taking out top 10/20 players again she has her CHANCES to win them next year. No one said she was Pete Sampras with titties :rolls: , and a lot of her fans expected some kind of tank/early loss in Zurich. She's never done well at this venue, it was more wishful hoping on most of us she could get to a TI SF two weeks in a row--she's had a tough year and finally got some respite from her struggles since the USO last year.

She shouldn't have retired, I can understand manatee's point about that kind of, but it's not like your favorite didn't retire or lose in the first round of Zurich either....

I'm not sure why I'm defending Elena against moronic trolls, nothing better to do I guess.

And if Dementieva REALLY sucked, she wouldn't have beaten every grand slam champion in the past decade.

I'm not so sad about this loss, Zurich isn't really her tournament and after last week her head probably wasn't enough in this match. Schavione is a too good of a player to let that go unpunished. This loss will probably mean that she won't make her eight successive YEC and won't finish in the top 10, but I already accepted that after her US Open loss. Although I had a glimps of hope for the last couple of days... I now hope that Dani makes the YEC. Maybe Dementieva will benefit Down Under from finally having a longer off-season.
