View Full Version : Are Fans Like Their Idols?

I've never thought about this until now but does a particular player attract fans that have similar personalities to them? In other words, do fans behave like their idols? For example:

Maria Sharapova: fans seemed to be the younger bunch, girly, childish, bitchy
Serena: fans with strong personality, obnoxious, tend to make alot of excuses, controlling, wild.
Venus: fans are those who are more mature, reasonable, respectful, more layback
Lindsay: very similiar to Venus fans accept with occasional sarcasm that's subtle but effective
Elena D: fans are sarcastic, funny, not too serious, doesn't have a lot of confident
Justine: fans are boring, down low, quiet, not flashy
Hingis: fans are clever, confident, sarcastic, tend to make bold statements, likes to talk trash.

This is just my analogy, don't take it too seriously:lol:

Mature? Check. Reasonable? Check. Respectful? Check. Laidback? Check.

Sarcastic? Check. Funny? Depends on whom you ask. Not too serious? Depends. Not much confidence? Check.

:yeah: Good stuff.

Imagine the fan who is girly, childish, bitchy, obnoxious, controlling, wild, mature, reasonable, sarcastic, funny, boring, quiet, clever, confident and likes to talk trash. :haha:

i didn't take it too seriously. i think it is mad funny, yo. you're right about venus fans. we are layback sometimes too layback. i mean if we were anymore layback we'd be sound asleep we so layback. are there any players you think are layback? i can't think of any player as layback as venus. maybe kim clijster is layback like venus is layback. what do you think? is kim clijster layback like venus is layback?

So I'm young, funny, and bitchy with a strong personality that can be childish and obnoxious. I'm also a bit wild and sarcastic in a totally girly way. I can be controlling at times but never too serious. I also have some confidence issues.

Hmmm.

but if you were a venus fan you'd be layback. c'mon gurl join the layback club. :bounce:

I know you're just having fun, but I do think a lot of us pick our faves based on what we perceive as similarities.

For example, I'd also add that I share Lena's qualities of shyness and intelligence, as well as a chronically inconsistent serve.

The downside is, of course, that I'm not rich or smokin' hot.

:haha: sometimes i think if the players seen this board they'd hate SOME of their fans with a passion. :o

I don't think we realize when we pick our faves, is like you don't choose who you want to win a match, you just feel it :p

Lena fans aspire to be laid back (which is why a surprising number of us like them both.)

We can't though. I mean with Lena having to serve half of every match, we can't be laid back.

I think we'd have to add schizo and/or manic depressive to the Lena list.

I'd say it's pretty much true, but some of us actually just like the player's tennis, not so much the player. I love Serena's tennis and I love her love for tennis, but I don't always agree with Serena - we all disagree with each other sometime. I don't agree with making excuses for showing up to a tournament out of shape or belittling/undermining the talent of other competitors. With Serena, it's easy to give in to those excuses, because she knows how to play that card well and you know she's such a talented a player. If you're the kind of person that is used to dealing with people that make excuses, then it's easier to see through Serena and know whether she is taking her tennis seriously enough or not. I do trust that she is serious about her tennis. How serious? That would be my question sometimes, but she continues to play, so I continue to watch to see her commitment to the talent she has.
