And to all who are worried... Serena is NOT injured.

She just doesnt want to play tennis this week. She is playing uninspiring and doesnt care and I am wondering why did she play here at all if she is not fit enough to play for two consecutive weeks.

she is quite obviously injured and moving horribly.I have no idea why she is continuing to play,it is pathetic.go home and get fit.

This playing when not fit or just for sakes of it,it is like she is stubbrn, if she can not be competitive then whats the point

Jasmin

Yeah I don't really enjoy watching Serena since her injury. I'm so glad she's back but not like this. I don't get the feeling that she's having fun since being injured and perhaps she should just let this year go.

FrchTwst
Oct 16th, 2007, 05:11 PM
she should retire, take two weeks off. And get ready for YEC in Madrid. She can easily lose those 10 extra pounds by November.

i don't know either! she shouldn't have been here in the first place. since when she starts playing 3 straight week? this is weird and stupid decision

someone in her camp should tell her she is already QUALIFIED :o

 WTH is going on? She's won nine points, and it seems, from the livescoring thread, only one has been a winner.

I can't imagine such a tough competitor WANTING to lose, but I guess it's happened in other sports.

I get that Serena is not moving/inhibited/injured...

I don't even know why Serena bothered to show up for this match. Her right leg was clearly hindering her. She could not move from side to side, she could not serve.
I'm also thinking that she played because she had some kind of agreement with the organizers. I hope this injury isn't too serious and that she can play the YEC.
She needs to get really fit though because this form isn't going to cut it next year.

Back in the day.....henin, federer, Serena and Venus were younger. Maybe they could handle that but they all pace themselves now.

Serena doesn't play 3 weeks in a row on a regular basis, thats why. Also if you read her blog she stated she was tired as well. I'm sure Serena knows how much her body can take. :hatoff:

no, i dont read her blog, im not interested ;)

From Serena's blog:
I ended up going out to a club in Russia that plays hip hop music!
I mean she kept telling me my CARRY ON was too heavy!!!

If Serena's knee was still injured, she wouldn't be out clubbing, and yes Serena, your "carry on" was too heavy for the airplane, you should have left yourself at home until you shed those extra pounds before you board the plane for your next match

i wonder this as well

Anyone retiring is afraid to lose according to this kind of fans.
There's no injury possible for some players because they aren't athletes, except for Serena of course.

Any reason why you dislike Serena so much?

crouching
Oct 16th, 2007, 05:55 PM
Whatever choice she made, she would have been criticised anyway....

1. Play and let her opponent complete the double bagel
Reaction: "Oh Serena is so shit, she got double bagelled by Patty"

2. Play but retire halfway
Reaction: "Oh how could she retire?"

3. Withdraw from the tournament
Reaction: "Oh she is scared of Patty/Dementieva/etc"
"Oh she always withdraws from tournaments and doesn't honour her commitments."

Serena was clearly injured and could not move. Patty just had to play her natural game of angles and side-to-side, and didn't have to do anything special at all. Serena couldn't run fast enough to get into position to play the shot in any meaningful way.

At least she showed up and honoured her commitment to play and showed up for the fans. Maybe she thought she could shake off the injury with a bit of play?

Why would Serena be scared of a double bagel when basically that's what she still got. She still lost.

No, I was joking. My age is something for you to find out.

Maybe you were, but I doubt an adult would behave like you do on here.

Many reasons. I hate her attitude. She never gives credit where it is needed. There is always an excuse when she loses.

See, this is where I need help: There was a WTA player who was found to be using steroids, wasn't there? Yet I doubt you dislike her as much as you do Serena. Is doping better than not giving credit to opponents?

That's one extreme, of course. But there are dozens of examples from this year a lone of players behaving much worse than Serena, yet you focus almost all your disdain towards this one player. So, what exactly is the reason?

Her fans are utter :weirdo: too. The list goes on.

You do realize that she has nothing to do with how her fans behave, right? No more so than Myskina has control over what you say.

So the Eurosport commentators were saying Serena was limping as she was walking onto court. She probably shouldn't have played but perhaps didn't want to let people down, or was forced into playing.

Anyway I'm sure Patty was pretty surprised when Serena didn't retire at the end of the first set. It would have been a double bagel if it had carried on.

Yeah, seems like Serena's opponents have been racking up lucky shots left and right lately! This must be some kind of cosmic revenge against her my-shit-don't-stink 'tude. Well, I permitted myself to gloat a bit here, but Serena's current morass isn't doing US tennis any favor. She's our top American woman player, I just want her to eat some humble pie, stop talking nonsense, learn that that the laws of physics don't exclude anyone (lose some f*cking weight!), and practice and play more tourneys, if she still wants to go on.

She just made the final of a Tier 1 in her second straight week of play and just made the YEC. That's actually a better situation. She's tired and flopped this match today. Sucks for her to travel out there just for that, but it's a lesson she'll learn again. She hasn't played even 2 straight weeks this year without having breaks in between days (slams). 3 straight weeks was asking a bit much of Serena, given she hadn't had enough match play, but now she does. Hopefully it helps her for the YEC.

Interesting what the Williams fans say now and what they said when Henin retired from a match. What a bunch of hypocrites

 :help: :bs: There's a BIG difference between retiring from your first match of a non slam tournament, and retiring from a GRAND SLAM FINAL!!

Hater, much? :wavey:

Boy Serena sure is the life's blood for a lot of people on this board. What ever would they do without Serena around to give their lives a little flava. :tape:

:silly: :cuckoo: :silly:

I wonder though what in Serena's personality says that she would go out in a match and not try. The girl who got upset when her sister would play a good point against her. The girl who fights for every point in a match and will come back on your ass at the drop of the hat. That girl all of a sudden decided to tank a match and she wanted to make it sooo convincing that she didn't bother to win a game. You people = :weirdo:s

but thanks for the entertainment. If I can't enjoy a Serena victory the next best thing is reading the malcontents make a mountain out of a mole hill. :haha:

Athletes and Tennis Players should always give 100% and should treat every match the same, regardless of the round or the tournamant they are playing in

it doesn't happen tho. Look at all the players who annually withdraw or retire from Sydney only to go deep at Melbourne the following week.

I think most of them withdraw from heat illness.. cant really blame them to try to avoid sunstroke just one week before AO!

She was afraid of Lena D looming in the next round.

man yall smoking on some shit if you think Serena is scared of Dementiava...Serena has put too many beat downs on here to be scared of her. She lost to the girl ONE TIME and now she is suppose to be scared?????? You must be crazy...lol..she probably lost to Elena due to the same stuff she retired from the match against patti. If anything Dementieva was just lucky the REAL Serena didnt show up at Moscow.....

Hey All,

What in the sardines? What is all the clamoring about? May haps, Serena wanted Patty to have two wins over her, because if she had gotten a win by a walkover, then it wouldn't have actually have shown up as a win - right?

Most astute tennis fans know Serena was not game enough to go all out. Patty beat her fair and square during the clay season - and even then - it went three sets? Patty was over the moon w/that win. She had never beaten Serena before - so she was happy. This time - most likely, Serena felt that since her opponent was Swiss, she didn't want to default. She wanted Patty to net a win. And like Patty said, either way - she felt she was playing well, had beaten Serena before, knew she could do it again, but also knew the score would have never been 6-0 - 3-0 if Serena was not injured, so she'll take it.

Plus - Serena also knew that her health was more important than a more aggravated injury. I seriously don't think Serena would have minded being double bageled - because again - most of us astute fans knew that that's where the match was going. And guess what - Patty knew too - and Serena. The real deal is - after the first set - Serena should have hung it up - IMO.

I like good 'ole Patty Cakes. She has always treated the sisters w/respect - as they have her. She and Venus go way back. I hope she wins it all.

"GET BETTER - SERENA"

"WIN THE ENTIRE ENCHILADA - PATTY"

THANK YOU SERENA ! :worship:

It's obvious you didn't want to play (here) this week lol. You've played lots of matchs lately and you looked SO tired [to me] today, it was pretty sad to watch. But it's very nice from to have showed up this year. I was finally able to see you "live". Thanks ! :D
Now get some rest and good luck for the YEC. :rocker2:

It was still a good match from Patty, well done ! :yeah:

Interesting what the Williams fans say now and what they said when Henin retired from a match. What a bunch of hypocrites

Still remember Fed Cup Final 2006...where Justine got injured and a majority of Williams fans pounced on her, saying that "she should have given the chance to another player"?

Now, the same thing happened to Serena, and it's just the complete reversal of roles... :tape:

This is why I like GM boards

serena whistled off the court. sounds like a long nite of partying.

ZURICH, Oct 16 - Local favourite Patty Schnyder eased into the second round of the Zurich Open on Tuesday after sixth seed Serena Williams retired injured at 6-0 3-0 down.

The American, who lost Sunday's Kremlin Cup final to Elena Dementieva, looked extremely out of sorts, barely moving as she surrendered her first two service games.

Briefly leaving the court at 3-0 down, Williams returned but showed no sign of improvement, taking just three more points as Schnyder romped the opening set 6-0 in 22 minutes.

The second set began with Williams heading for the wrong side of the court.

The American, who has made late withdrawals from previous editions of the Zurich tournament, was whistled off the court following the umpire's announcement of her retirement "due to injury" at 3-0 down in the second set.

"I don't think I've ever played a match like that but I just concentrated on playing my tennis," shrugged Schnyder in an on-court interview following Williams's departure.

"I was checking the situation and trying to focus on my own game. I still had to play some good shots and keep it together mentally which is not so easy."

This was kind of a sad and pathetic loss. I hope Serena uses the time she has left and commits more to tennis.
