I think Serena's sights is on YEC and she wants to get as much match practice before the tournament.

She's arrived in Zurich so she will be playing, she deserves some credit for playing these last 3 weeks, especially since about 90% of this board doubted that she would :o

It's going to be very interesting to see how Serena can play this week.

She reraly plays back to back tournaments, and I want to see how far she can go in Zurich.

really true. With Justine in the field, she needs to show she can win against her. Or shall I say she might tank up a match before meeting Justine to plan a great surprise performance at YEC. Its either that or she welcomes the opportunity face Justine again.

Serena did it once before:

in 2004 she played Miami (W) - Amelia Island (QF) - Charleston (3r WD).

Interesting... in that series of events, she progressively got worse results. This time around, she's actually improving.

I think the real reason Serena is decided to play all three tournaments is to improve her ranking. She does not have a lot of points to defend this year, and she wants to have much higher ranking for the AO next year.

She probably does not want to see Henin in quarters again, and by improving her ranking she can meet her in Semis at least.

Work harder now so she doesn't have to work as hard early on later.

Yes, it's true... but this year she practically has no points to defend, but would need to defend her AO title next year.

i give credit to her for playing again this week. she is doing what she needed to do all year and that is play matches, it helps her footwork, fitness and being sharp so good on her.

shows that the only reason she doesn't play is when she is injured really seriously...she's playing 3 weeks at the 3 biggest fall tournies...great going rena!!! :worship:

One 3 week stint aint gonna change the fact that she is genarally a very lazy top 10 player ;)

I think this is all about Australia. Just like Davenport...notice she's in the 90's now? Just from those two tournaments. Also, the year is almost over...why not rack up some points to get a solid start on 2008 (because after all the pattern says she doesn't defend AO 2007).

Why do ppl keep saying that!

I like my favs NOT because they are necessarily the best players, but because i love their fighting spirit and passion for the game...Serena at times couldnt give a rats ass about tennis :o and thats why i dislike her...player like Jelena and Martina Muller play because they love the game and winning is just a bonus.

Id rather be a fan of Martina Muller than Serena any day so stick in ur pipe and smoke it :smoke:

Zurich is so messed up for making Serena play against Patty tomorrow. She just made the final of Moscow, WTF?

is serena actually aware that she needs matches to get fit again?
good for her to be competing with the best consistently again. as much as i think she may bomb/withdraw early at zurich, she would get two rest weeks before the championships even with a good run, so it couldn't hurt too much to go far.

No, Jelena plays b/c she wants to be number one and because she hates practicing,

:tape: If she does that, wouldn't that be hazardous for her instead? She can't last that long on court with the injury she's having... and the opponents she's facing before getting to Justine are no freaking pushovers... Patty would not want to lose so early, Elena is on a roll at the moment, Sveta would want to avenge her loss to Serena in the Moscow tournament, and Ana surely wish to perform well to get ready for the YEC. It would take a mammoth task to get through them, which I can see her doing that... but definately not by tanking.

Serena hates practising too and yet she's still too lazy to play a full schedule (16-20 tournaments)

Perhaps that is the recipe for her success. You have to take her entire career i perspective and you will see that she had a point to it all.
Justine does not play a full season anymore, she has become more successfull that way. raerely does she even go above the 14 tourny mark anyway.

Journey women do it all the time. Vera Dushevina lost in Moscow and two days later she was playing in Zurich again. If these mickey mouse players can do it, why can't Serena?

I am suprised to see her name on the OOP for today and not Elena D's?

I thought they always gave some consideration to whoever played the final the week before?

Do you really think that Jelena will play 20+ events next year? Ask her to look at Kim Clijsters, where she is now and tell her to think again.
