WITH typical Hewitt determination, tennis star Lleyton Hewitt's younger sister Jaslyn is flexing her muscles in her own right.

The 24-year-old last night entered her first bodybuilding competition, just six months after taking up the sport.

Jaslyn, a coach with Tennis SA, trained for up to four hours a day to prepare for last night's event, shedding 12 per cent of her body fat.

She said she was interested only in figure events and did not want to "bulk up like a she-man".
"I like the athletic feminine look," she said.

"I've always wanted to have a six pack and get as lean as I possibly could."

Didn't she win a round in Gold Coast or Sydney as a WC once?

She pushed Koukalova/Zakopalova then Top 40 to 3 sets, and Sfar to 3 sets the following week in Sydney, then won a round at Aust Open before breaking her wrist a few days later. Her senior career was totally wrecked by injuries. She had been a very promising junior, top 20.

She won Canberra $25K and had wins over Martina Muller, Sam Stosur, Evie Dominikovic, Anne Keovthang, Sunitha Rao, Angelica Bachmann, Nociarova. and took sets off Poutchkova, Mirza, Yuan, Henke, Zakopalova, Sfar.

She was at her peak when she broke her wrist, and had two surgeries after it before retiring

'Figure' competitions aren't really bodybuilding competitions. They're sort of body-'toning' competitions. It's just not bodybuilding if the idea is to AVOID building muscle mass.

As "unnatural" as it may look, it just goes to show that sometimes atheticism runs in the family. To gain that much muscle mass in six months is pretty astonishing...at least she's doing something productive.

Speaking of post-tennis sporting, does anyone know if Kimiko Date still runs marathons?

Very fit indeed! I have a friend who's into body conditioning/body building/fitness.....She looks similar to Miss Hewitt when she's training for competition, but rather natural when she's not. It's not my cup of tea but if it makes her happy. Go for it!:)

Yeah Good on her for devoting herself to something else and having success. She would be playing tennis if her body was capable of it, she was a dogged fighter on court, just lacked a big serve.

Would be interesting to see her play after all this muscle growth!! Maybe her groundstrokes would be stronger

You cant understand because you judge a book by its cover.

People set certain goals for themselves, some want to be the absolute fittest just to prove it to themselves they can achieve that.

both of my parents were bodybuildrers - my dad was a finalist in the Australian natural titles and my mum did physique bodybuilding for a few years.... its not as bad as people think - many generalise based upon media-bread ignorance. Steroid building is disgusting i agree but natural competitions are not that bad! (EMBARASSING -- grandmother was a bodybuilder in HER 50'S!!!!!! she even had an article in "Woman's Day" or "New Idea" magazine a few years ago). LOL.

Wow, she looks great! I love "ripped" women (i train myself, but it's for tennis
fitness) and appreciate the work Jaslyn has put in. It's important to consider that
she is "flexing" in this pic...when she relaxes the pose she will look so much
"smaller" and more feminine.

I'm sorry - just because I can't understand why anyone would want to do that to their body doesn't mean I am judging a book by it's cover. Did I say anything bad about Jaslyn herself, or my personal trainer? No. My personal trainer looks quite nice when I don't see pics of her from comps, but for me PERSONALLY I would never want to do that to my body. If they want to, then fine - I didn't say they shouldn't. Just that I don't understand why they would want to. So please don't try to tell me what I am or am not doing, when you don't even know me yourself.

you should go to wikipedia or something before you post ignorant, uninformed drivel.

I completely agree! Most people don't have a clue about bodybuilding (particularly women's)... Jaslyn is not that big... in fact, if you are a guy with less muscle mass than her, it's because you are a wimp. She is ripped to shreds, and many people find that gross on girls and guys (Ronnie and Jay anyone?), but once they get to a more reasonable body-fat level (10% or so) they look FANTASTIC!.... that being said, as long as she doesn't fall into the mass trap that many female bodybuilders do and start using insane amounts of steroids, she will have an uber-hot body well into her later years long after she stops ripping her body to shreds for competition... anyone seen Rachel MacLish lately? She's right around 50 (give or take), but has a body most 20-year-olds would die for (although that's not saying much in our society today)... Whoever made the comment about her going figure/fitness instead of bodybuilding is right, she would be perfect for it, and it would keep her from having to use roids to compete and destroying that fanstastic body.

BTW, from a sheer muscle mass standpoint, she's not even as big as Serena was several years ago.

i didn't think that you were doing the latter and just took the opportunity afforded by your response to do a little educating of the know-nothings.

but if you feel ignorant, check this out - perhaps your personal tolerance levels might increase but don't think that i'm trying to 'recruit' you or anything:

It's just something I personally would never want to do. That is not ignorance, nor talking shit, it's how I feel about MYSELF doing something like that. And no, I'm not going to bother to look at your link because a. I don't have time, and b. I'm sure it's just more pics like that ones you posted above, and why do I need to see them? I have my own opinions, you don't agree - fine. But don't call me ignorant just because we have differeing opnions. Why not have a go at people who said about steroids and stuff instead?

LOL, I remember this one from Louis Theroux.
Personally I think it's disgusting to look at.

Erm what exactly did I say that was talking out of my ass? That I wouldn't want to look like that? Well sorry, I wouldn't. Again, how does that make me ignorant? Just because I don't like something doesn't mean I'm ignorant. And what tolerance levels? I in no way said these people shouls *stop* doing this - in fact I said if they want to, good for them. It's just something I personally would never want to do. That is not ignorance, nor talking shit, it's how I feel about MYSELF doing something like that. i don't know what your problem is but let me spell it out for you:

i was not talking about you when i talked about uniformed drivel.
when i say that i didn't think you were the latter = i did not think that you were talking out of your arse; or in other words that i know that you were giving your opinion in a rational manner. i just responded to your response out of expediency not because i was targeting you but because i just wanted to make a point.

i.e. i was not talking about you or your opinions and i cannot understand why you feel that i was.

is this clear enough for you? i don't know if the use of former/latter is an english colloquialism but i presumed that you would know what i meant and perhaps i should not have done so.

i can't be bothered to try to convey my intentions anymore, so if it still isn't clear to you yet suffice it to say that i'm leaving the field and you can 'take winnings' (jamaican colloqiualism in case you are confused).

My problem is, you keep quoting my posts saying this stuff, so why would I not think you meant it about me? And it did look like you were having a go at me, so I was sticking up for myself. Got it now too? (ie take a look at how you might view the 3rd paragraph of you last post on the previous page if you were in my position)...plus your second paragraph was not very clear, I'm sorry to say.

Actually in all honesty, she doesn't look that bad. A lot of female track athletes would have bodies like that. But the weird thing is she seems to have no butt. :o
