In the last minuets there is a report in Israeli media ( http://www.nrg.co.il/online/3/ART1/646/184.html) that Linetzkaya decided to give up her tennis hopes and she is about to retire. according to this report, after short comeback in the middle of the year she got injured again. She went back to Russia to look what can she do with this new injury but there is not improvement. Thus, she decided to give up.
according to this report, she suffred in the last months from radical changes in her mood and that she did not train regulary. However, she will stay in Israel although her citzenship process is slow.

this is not official news and we might hear today or tomorrow other views about this issue but if it is true, it is very sad news.

Linetskaya beat Mauresmo and was ahead of Chakvetadze.
I'm surprised she's retiring, but she writes poetry, she's smart, and I think she'll do well in life.

She was so promising in early 2005. So much talent; it's so sad that the injuries and all the personal problems had to end it.

It must be hard for her to see Chakvetadze all the way up in the Top 5. She was robbed of some great wins and titles. Wish you the best in life, Evgenia!

Does anyone know how she was re-injured?

If true, sad to hear. She was starting to show some promise when things went bad. at that coach and her father. I think she had wins over Momo and Zvonereva about 2 years ago and was ranked somewhere in the top 40 at one time.

anyways, i really hope she gets back into tennis. i really liked the fire in her shots and in her eyes when she played. she kind of reminded me of zvonareva, except less sad on changeovers.

what happened between her and her father?

Well, so far the issue hasn't appeared on any other israeli media.
This is weird as ynet used to cover her more than the rest.

Her dad once locked her in her room, and might have hit her.
She hired a coach who was later accused by other players of sexual molestation.

She did have a very distinctive grunt. :)
Similar to Lindsay Lee Waters, if I'm remembering her's correctly.

What happened with her coach and father?According to the San Diego papers, the coach was charged with sexual assault. He then vanished.

Also according to the papers, her father said they had an argument over who was going to drive, and that he wouldn't let her drive because she did not have a license. Later details alleged he was intoxicated, and she took the keys away from him because she didn't want him driving. This led, apparently, to him hitting her with something that caused cuts on the back of her head, and she needed treatment at a hospital.

This was in August 2005, and I read about all this in October. I was utterly shocked because I'd been talking with her father over the course of 3 days, and I never sensed any problem between them.

I saw her the day after the incident, when she apparently was about to leave, and I talked to her and got a picture with her. There was no hint that anything was amiss.

Apparently, they have reconciled, but she has never gotten back on track to where she was 2 years ago. She was up to number 35 in July 2005. A real shame if she's given it up.

.

Linetskaya was becoming sexually involved already with older men when she was age 16-17, and her father want to control her from being taken advantage by these guys because it can hurt her tennis career. So they have a lot of arguments
