The semifinal at the US Open 2003, between Justine and Jennifer, is one of the longest matches (and one of the most beautiful ever) and took 3 hours and 3 minutes. Justine needed baxters afterwards. I don't know which match took longer.

all of the old matches were just moonball matches. Remember Rubin's match vs Sanchez vicario? It was like 16-14 in the third. 3 hours 33 minutes 2nd longest in history. (lol i was reading monica seles' autobiog last night. Im not some freak who just remember these things from memory )

Justine's match against Lindsay at the Australian Open '03 was even longer, 3h 13 minutes, if I remember correctly :)

Other longest matches:
*Clarisa Fernandez a Shinobu Asagoe 6/3 4/6 10/8. The match was played in Japan during a Fed Cup Tie in 2001 i think. It was quite long also, almost 3hs50min.

*Some days ago, Roxane Vaisember over Mariana Duque Marino, 3hs40min.

that's why the tour needs more ball bashing, to avoid the embarrassment of 29 minutes points
