Omg!!! Lena's such a great talent. She responded with a drop shot to a ball that fell off of the net, in the last game.
Can't beat Lena from the baseline. Serena tried to advance to the net a couple of times, but she got passed by Lena's cross-court forehand.

I'm glad too, Serena needs to work on her fitness and her game still. The last two sets were horrible from Serena. Elena D. deserves this win. Elena was playing well from the start and could have won the match in two. Nice try Serena, but you need to find your game again. Rest up for the YEC!!

Wow, it was a good match to watch. Serena unfortunately was not solid enough in the rallies which you have to be against a well playing Dementieva.

Serena really showed improvement from last week in Stuttgart in her serve, movement and groundstrokes. She did make to many errors today and that's not going to cut it against this Dementieva. Both fought well I hope Serena can produce even better form in Zurich because the way she's going now could make her the top dog at the YEC.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All I can do at the moment is run off a few one liners from Borat to describe this, ie. "very nice" "sexy time" "great success" and "high five"

Such an Elena thing to do as well, after a crappy year, just run off a massive win like this. Finally got the Moscow title. Finally beat Serena. And back in the top 10 as well

Best damn result of all time!!!!

Absolutely pathetic from Serena. Disgusting display. She held serve once after the first set. No backhand, forehand fell away completely. Then her serve just went. Hideous performance. One of the worst I have seen from her in a long time. Oh well on to Zurich I guess.

I disagree she did fight but it didn't go her way today. Many shots including her serve were just out by a small margin. She tried hard.
You also have to remember that she beat Vaidisova and Kuznetsova in a row. That could not have been easy. She seemed tired to me in the last two sets and even at the end of the first set. I'm dissapointed as well but she showed a lot of promise today IMO.

I really hope this loss wakes Serena up! she needs to realize that she needs to get into better shape. Elena D. deserved this win. She was playing well from the start and could have won this match in 2 sets. She pulverized Serena's second serve.

I don't know what to say about Serena! The positives are not outweighing the negatives. But, she is slowly improving? I guess. I mean last week the Qtrs. and this week the Finals. But her quality of play definitely dropped in the final. I don't know what happened. She looked rushed and frustrated. I'm pretty unhappy with Serena right now.

Nice to see Dementieva winning at home after all these years. She needed this win more than Serena so it's perfect for her.
Serena is clearly not in shape (she was fit at the start of the year compare to now) and has basically no confidence in her game.

My god, her first win over Serena, back into the top 10, solid enough serving winning multiple big matches... I'm so happy for her right now.

Only negative point is fucking ES not showing the ceremony so that they can show mens tennis...

true that.

And DFieva played rediculous tennis rallies, honestly. She played almost perfect, no errors nothing, no DF's (<10).

Serena was smiling at match point down.

She is finally acting like a tennis player a bit more, opposed to playing the role of a tennis playing actress, which is a good sign for Serena supporters like me.

I guess she's in the process of getting her act together.

Hope she continues this progress through Zurich towards YEC.

I bet in the story after this match Serena will say something like Dementieva played high level tennis, which would be a true observation.

peace out yall.

Congrats to Elena on winning her home title and re-entering the top 10 - thoroughly deserved. :yeah:

Serena was very disappointing in the end, especially off the backhand (it just didn't fire at all) and seemed to lose all confidence in her game.

Congrats to Elena D..she was all over Serena's serve today, Serena eeked out the first set but then the wheels came off. Needs to get a lil bit fitter...plus change the patterns in her game..Elena D was reading her game like an open book: crosscourt, crosscourt..overall, ok..nice to see her past a QF since Miami.

this is just one of the worse matches i have ever seen my whole life!!! plus, i don't get serena's attitude......she used to be a fighter!!!!!! where did the serena who won against kim clijsters when she was down 1-5 go???????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????
i don't understand.
congratulations to elena though, even if she didn't have to do much to win this

I don't know where the fight of Serena went. It has left her for the time being. I have to think that she doesn't take the Tier 1 tourneys as seriously as the Majors. But she should still fight no matter what. Elena fought to win. Yeah Serena hit tons of errors, but Elena still had to serve and hit groundstrokes to win the match. So I don't agree that Elena did not have to do much to win it.

I just can't get over how bad Serena played in the end. Just horrible play and attitude. Again, I'm just frustrated with Serena now. Gimme a week and I'll be over it.

Whatever happened, Elena played the better game today. She deserved to win.

If the crowd was truly using insulting words, then No, It can affect your attitude, even if you have the mental state of a god.

Serena's overall strategy has got to improve if she still wants to remain @ the top.

But its good to see her playing well again. Hopefully, she'll work on her match fitness, she fell for pressure today. Totally uncharacteristic

What a final"

Hold on, I was about to say how wrong you are, then I thought Serena can't even speak/decipher russian,so whatever was spoken to her couldn't have made any direct impact on her mental state...and I am a Serena Fan.

But your position that using such words in football etc doesn't hold any water.

In football, it doesn't matter, it is a team game...but in tennis, if you are being insulted - and you can hear and understand, now there is a problem

There is no excuse today. Elena played well, didn't choke, and Serena fell under the pressure.

Serena said that she wanted to win, but she did not. Congratulates to Elena and to the wonderful crowd. She said that she will come next year here in Moscow, with Russian passport cos this crowd is great.

It was a really interesting match. Congratulations to my girl Elena! She played near perfect tennis, and strategically she has been improving post USO. Her aggression has come back and she trusts her shots. It took her a long time over the course of this season to really get going. And now she has, inching her way back up top.

Serena really lost the plot in the last two sets. But she was trying and that in itself deserves recognition. That balance between rallying and offense hasn't been reached, which will come with match play, and Elena's groundies were just placed so accurately that it made it difficult for Serena to attack easily.

They both hit at the same power level, and at times Serena was being outhit.

It was all about the first set. Had Elena lost it easily, then Serena would have rolled. But Elena made it an intense and physically demanding set requiring perfect points. Which Serena cam up with. Which then drained her mental energy. It impacted on her concentration when serving, footwork, etc.

Whereas Elena, looked as fresh as a daisy, and was whacking away like a machine. Today, the better performing player won. Elena held on, and her serve was usually consistent.

Again, congratulations to Elena, on finding that fire again, on re-entering the Top 10, on performing on a big stage and achieving a dream! Serena, keep working hard, some more fitness work and match play will have you right in the very mix, challenging Justine.

Can't believe they may meet Round 2 Zurich!

I don't understand this overused reference to Henin.

As a player, no one would possibly expect Serena to start thinking Henin as some kind of unbeatable god.

Agreed, to say henin was lucky was a horrendous overstatement at the US open postgame conference but that will NOT only be understandable from an objective, I dare say academical, point of view. You can understand, the emotion if you watched the comment, and not read it as most commentators.

It was clear - she lost her sportsmanship control. If you say that's childish. Fine, but it was not irrational when you have just lost a game to your rival, the 3rd time in a row.

Drop this theme. please.

So happy for Lena - to win the Kremlin Cup in her home country. And to emphatically beat Serena to do it.

She really played great tennis and I am so glad for that no matter if Elena won or lost!

Lena dedicated her win to the man who "introduced tennis to Russians" - to Boris Yeltsin. These words made Naina Yeltsina (who was at the stands) cry...

I'm not surprised that Elena won but I am stunned by the score! Wow! Serena will lose her share of three set matches but by this scoreline? Unbelievable.
