Credit to the 'demented server', she really has done incredibly well when you consider her achievements, weighed against her handicap.

Her first breakout win was probably her victory over Venus in the 1999 Fed Cup. Since 2000, she has finished every year inside the top 20, 7 of which have seen her finish inside the world's top 15.

Only Mauresmo, inside the top 20 since 1999, has been there for more consecutive years.

I have never seen her serving such big serves as consistently as she's been doing the last set and half

No, but you just wait: if a winning opportunity presents itself, her serve will fall apart. It did when she got broken in game on of set 3.

But Elena can compete with anybody from the baseline. Arguably the best athlete on the tour.

Shows how poor the tour really is.

shows how poor you really are piercedoff. she can win with a bad serve, but the rest of her game is amazing. her movement, agassi like charge on the ball. magnificent!

Elena's serve held up. She bombed it when it was needed, she just got it in when it was needed. As an overall review of the last two weeks, her serve has definitely improved.

And even when she served it out, there were some cracking serves. She is getting used to it, slowly but surely. It will become stronger in the big matches and today was the 1st step there.

She has the best groundstrokes in the game. There is no doubt in terms of the quality, depth, aggression and angle of her strokes. This is why she is very difficult to defeat. And after a slog in 2007, she has found a way to reinvent and revitalise her game.

And now in the Top 10. I would prefer if she didn't play Madrid, just finish off the season (hopefully in the Top 10) and work on her game, get a good rest and prepare for damage in 2008.

Very good achievement for Dementieva. Hopefully, she will a Grand Slam before she retires (she's too good to not have won one already). :)
