Oct 13th, 2007, 01:06 PM

Oct 13th, 2007, 01:06 PM
Quite high quality match..

Oct 13th, 2007, 01:07 PM
Excellent Serena! :worship:

Had to really fight and persevere in that first set. She was up a break and let it go and was just too good in the tiebreak and second set. Good luck and beat Elena in the final Serena! :yeah:

Sveta

wow great news great match against Lena in perspective

Oct 13th, 2007, 01:10 PM
Good match from Serena.Kuzy was her usual self : brilliant on some shots, but most of the time too passive, bad choices and shots selection on important points and returns.

Oct 13th, 2007, 01:11 PM
:woohoo: Go Serena! Win the final!

Oct 13th, 2007, 01:12 PM
Serena played well. The serve is really good.
Hope it'll be a good final 2morrow

Sveta's level just dropped too much after the lost TB, mentally she was weak..

Serena was mixing up her shots very well.

Oct 13th, 2007, 01:25 PM
So happy. Didn't expect such an easy scoreline especially after last week's :tape:.

Go on, Serena! Take the title.

Oct 13th, 2007, 01:25 PM
Somthing didnt look right with Sveta...

Yes, she was getting beaten...

Anyway, something never looks quite right with Sveta to me; she's still playing better now than she was at the US Open imo, and it's indoors, so I wouldn't get down on her.

Oct 13th, 2007, 01:25 PM
Nice win, very impressive Serena.

Oct 13th, 2007, 01:30 PM
Great stuff.

Oct 13th, 2007, 01:31 PM

 Sveta

Serena  Very happy with your level of play today, way to stick in those rallies and the movement is picking up.

Oct 13th, 2007, 01:35 PM
Yeah Svetlana's serving was not as good as in Stuttgart, but if you looked carefully you were able to see some tape on the abdominal area of her stomach. I hope the injury isn't that worse. Take care Kuzzy!

Oct 13th, 2007, 01:54 PM
kuzzy

Oct 13th, 2007, 01:56 PM

Oct 13th, 2007, 02:19 PM
Yes, she was getting beaten...

Brilliant observation

Oct 13th, 2007, 02:32 PM
It was a good match to watch, and very nice to see Serena getting some of her on-court dominance back. She still needs to step it up a little bit with her footwork, which is probably the weakest part of her game right now, but her serve, and specifically, her second serve was not just good, it was great in this match, and really saved her from a couple of tight situations. I've often wondered why she's the only one out there with a really great kick second serve on the womens tour. It's such an effective shot, and actually very good to hit in tight situations, because you have to brush the ball and hit through the execution of the serve, making it a terrific way to channel nervous energy into something positive with a high margin for error at a key moment. Okay, enough technical blah-blah-blah, on to the blah-blah-blah from the commentary booth:

Can someone please let the Katrina/Corina team know that a match is actually being played tomorrow, and to keep their constant, incessant off-topic babbling to a minimum during the final?!?!?!?!? Apart from their very good analysis of why Serena has a predictable low forehand volley, not much else in their diatribe was either necessary or enjoyable (IMO).

Oct 13th, 2007, 02:33 PM
Brilliant observation

Wow, you are a very embittered person.

Oct 13th, 2007, 02:34 PM
Sveta :help: Horrible first set! Congrats Serena ;)

Oct 13th, 2007, 02:53 PM
Wtg Rena. Now make your trip to Europe even more worthwhile. :hearts: Keep that h2h going clean. Kudos to Elena. She must be on fire, just don't burn Rena!!

Oct 13th, 2007, 02:55 PM
Wow, you are a very embittered person.

And you know that because? :weirdo:

Oct 13th, 2007, 03:00 PM
Hmm...didn't really expect this result considering how Serena struggled past Nicole yesterday

Oct 13th, 2007, 03:19 PM
good job Serena!!

Oct 13th, 2007, 03:21 PM

Oct 13th, 2007, 03:52 PM

Oct 13th, 2007, 04:07 PM
Yes, she was getting beaten...

Please enlighten us on the comment above, or was it a poor attempt at a jab!

Oct 13th, 2007, 04:11 PM
Hmm...didn't really expect this result considering how Serena struggled past Nicole yesterday

I think a lot of people would say the same! I see where some posters observed some taping on Svetlana. Perhaps that had something to do with her level of play today.:)

Il Primo!
Oct 13th, 2007, 04:12 PM
Yay yay!

Oct 13th, 2007, 04:18 PM
Glad to see Serena back in the final of a tier 1 :bounce:

Oct 13th, 2007, 04:34 PM
Well done Serena:D i Knew you'd win- i was really nervous after she let her break slip in the first set, but after that it was plain sailing.

Take this title!

Oct 13th, 2007, 04:36 PM
Well done Serena,I love you.Good luck in the Final.
Good try Kuznetsova.

Oct 13th, 2007, 04:42 PM
great going :woohoo:

now win the title!!! Sorry Lena D

Oct 13th, 2007, 04:44 PM
Nice revenge, Serena. Win the title! :D

Oct 13th, 2007, 04:47 PM
I am tempted to say that Serena is getting her game back but  she did beat Svetlana who is capable of losing to almost anyone in the top 50 at any given time. Svetlana is not a good barometer for these things. Svetlana is the Russian Venus!!

Oct 13th, 2007, 04:49 PM
Hmm...didn't really expect this result considering how Serena struggled past Nicole yesterday
I expected tonight's result ESPECIALLY after that result with Nicole and esp coming off a loss last week. kinda like Venus almost losing to nakamura and blitzing maria/ana/and kuzy at wimby. Happens in tennis, anything goes.

Oct 13th, 2007, 04:51 PM
highlights? :D

Oct 13th, 2007, 05:06 PM
Congrats Serena take the title!!!!

Oct 13th, 2007, 05:08 PM
Wow, good to see that Serena is making a good end to her year. She is gaining valuable matchplay for next season. I hope she crushes Dementieva tomorrow.

Oct 13th, 2007, 05:31 PM
Serena :bounce: :rocker2:
Win tomorrow :)

Oct 13th, 2007, 05:33 PM

Serena sets sights on reclaiming top spot
Mon Oct 8, 2007 5:44pm EDT
By Steve Ginsburg

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Eight-times grand slam champion Serena Williams said on Monday her attitude had changed and she was ready to reclaim the world's number one ranking.

"I definitely think I'm ready for it," said the seventh-ranked American. "I'm ready to dedicate myself. I'm excited by the fact that I have so much motivation.

"That's why I was so upset at the U.S. Open. I'm really motivated now, my whole attitude has changed."

Williams was the world's top player in 2002 when she won three grand slams but a mixture of injury and a lack of focus caused a slide in the rankings.

"Definitely injury has a lot to do with it," Williams told Reuters in a telephone interview from Moscow. "Well, maybe it's a little bit of both, injury and my other interests.

"But I'm not going to stop doing what I do. I'm stubborn. That's a flaw that I have."

The 26-year-old Williams is involved in a variety of off-court projects, including fashion design and acting.

"I definitely do a lot of different things," she said. "I'm not just a tennis player. I don't want to be one of those girls that doesn't have anything to change in to when I'm done with my career.

"I think it's important to have things to fall back on."

Williams lost in the quarter-finals of the U.S. Open to top-ranked eventual champion Justine Henin last month and said the Belgian hit some "lucky shots" to win 7-6 6-1.

While admitting she was frustrated during the post-match news conference, Williams would not apologize for the remarks.

"I want to know what I said that was such a problem," said Williams after facing some sharp criticism. "It was what it was."

Williams sat out much of the American summer with several nagging injuries and believes the layoff might have affected her play at the Open.

"I couldn't hit a lot of shots for eight weeks this summer so I think it did ultimately affect my play at the Open. I was happy to even play there.

"My health is good right now. I've had a lot of injuries in the past so I'm really excited."

Williams won this year's Australian Open, just her second grand slam title since 2003. She is playing in Moscow's Kremlin Cup hoping to gain enough points to qualify for the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour's season-ending championship.

With her various fitness problems behind her, Williams said she was ready to return to the top. The long trudge up the ladder is something she has done before, her ranking having tumbled to number 97 at the end of 2006.

"If I didn't believe I could be number one again I wouldn't be out here trying," she said. "Will I? If I dedicate myself and do the work, I will. And I'm ready."

good match serena. now fight and take the title.
Sorry lena, you played so well this week but i want serena to win.

Oct 13th, 2007, 06:34 PM
Let's do it, Serena. Another Tier 1 title would be sick.

And some momentum going into the YEC...:worship:

Oct 13th, 2007, 06:43 PM
I think definitely some momentum going into Zurich would be  She has a tough draw there and needs to storm through it.

Oct 13th, 2007, 06:49 PM
I hope she can stay focused and fierce for the next week, because it'll be important to play well tomorrow. Not only for the fact that it's a Tier I final, but she might have to play Elena again in the 2nd RD in Zurich, so she needs to be ON it.

Her draw is , so I hope she can keep up the good work. The serving stats looked good, but I'll wait until I see the video to make any more judgements.

Oct 13th, 2007, 06:52 PM

I'm looking forward to this final. Deme has stated that Serena is one of the players she loves to watch. I've proclaimed before that I would choose Deme for my all-around team. It should be a good one.

Serena got her revenge on Fuzzy - Wuzzy - wasn't Kuzzy - was she?

And - what is up w/some saying that Serena was arrogant in this match? I didn't see her do anything but pump her fist a few times. I mean really! Kuzy was the one getting upset and slamming her racket. But even so, Kuzy is a kool young lady - and she knew the stands were packed w/Russian dignitaries, so she wanted to at least, keep the match competitive, but it got away from her in the breaker and the 2nd.

Sveta was clearly injured.

:spit: :haha:

Oct 13th, 2007, 11:01 PM
Congrats Serena. Svetlana hits the ball so hard sometimes I was happy seeing Serena track down some balls and other times taking the authority in her shots.

Oct 14th, 2007, 04:10 AM
Nice news!
