View Full Version : Katrina Adams is a horrible commentator

It is absolutely unbearable to listen to her. Her voice is so annoying and often sounds like she has no idea what she's talking about. She ruins a lot of these matches on the Tennis Channel. Corina Morariu is so much better and should just replace Adams full-time.

Corina is a great commentator. She knows what she's talking about.

Katrina...eh...she's better than that John Burgess guy (oh I must say I wish Razzano would beat this Venus guhllll--that guy).

Corina and Chanda should be full-time commentators, Lindsay too when she's officially retired. Those three have great insight.

I really like listen to Corina when she is commenting.

Well I dunno if I like either... @ least today.

I especially don't like the person who called Serena an inexperienced vollyer and Sveta lack finesse. :fiery:

And overrall they talk too much just like the majority of the American commentators and aren't really adding anything. (It really isn't necessary to mention Maria/Roger in every single ATP & WTA match, 'k thanks!:wavey: )

Give me Katrina over a lot of commentators. She doesn't spend a whole lot of time making personal assessments about players personal lives.

I don't have a problem with Katrina Adams but Chanda Rubin is the cat's meow as far as I am concerned. Chanda's understanding of the game and the players is easily discernable.

:( You beat me to it.

Katrina and Leif Shiras are just...*looks around futilely for the "pee-yoo" icon*...:help:

Chanda's the best they've got. I've only heard Corina once or twice, but I don't remember being disenChanda'd with her. ;) :p

The guy I really can't stand, though, is Barry McKay. Note to Barry: we know what a fault is. You don't have to announce Every. Single. One. :help:  :o

She over-compensates

because she doesn't want to show bias towards the Williams sisters

Nooooooooo! You can't diss Barry  Like Cliffy, Barry is a sweet older guy who tends to repeat himself, get Venus and Serena mixed up, and still calls Justine "Henin-Hardenne"! But that's o.k., because he means well and seems positive about ALL the players...

Katrina is usually bearable, but for the Serena/Svetlana coverage, she seemed like she had no idea when they would show the reply and when the replay would stop.

Also, there isn't much chemistry between Corina and her.

I like Chanda but I remember when she lost to Serena at Wimbledon the previous round and they had her commentate Serena's next match. Well, she started talking about how Serena tries to play "macho tennis" to instill fear in her opponents. I was like WTF?

Katrina is okay as a commentator. I really do like Chanda and Corina as commentators though. I really don't mind most of the TTC commentators though. :)

Good point! That's what I like best about Katrina. unlike the other jealous, biased female commentators, it's all about the tennis with her.

No, she just spends a whole lot of time making personal assessments of player's weaknesses. I'm sorry, as a commentator it's okay to make the occasional comment in that area. But she has this annoying voice and just gives them pointers on what the players are doing wrong, like she's a coach. It makes her seem like a know-it-all (even though what she says is usually right, never had a problem with her from a factual standpoint). She's too talkative for a commentator and just gets on my nerves.

Btw, sorry I'm not jumping down your throat. I just had an angry moment lol

Sorry but I think Katrina is a fine commentator. She is probably THE most objective voice out there in the business.

Now, what she is doing differently this week is being the lead commentator asking the other commentator the questions and she is not used to doing that.

I've always complained about her  Chanda annoys me too, but now that I've heard Corina I say bravo to TTC. I hope they use her more. Renee too would do better commentating rather that being on the side lines

Katrina is bearable.
My biggest issue with her is a fault I find with most commentators--they talk too much! :(
Unfortunately, I think most of the announcers think we tune in to the matches to hear them talk, rather than see the players play. .

I agree.
I'm sorry Corina is just not good to me.
She was anti-Serena the entire final.
After a while Katrina was just drowning her out as was I.

And at times I started to understand why Corina was dating Justin Gimblesnob, they think alike.
And for me to hear condescending remarks about women's tennis as if she's talking from the view of a man is not cool with me.

I actually think the perfect match was the one they had at Luxembourg with Chanda and that white guy.
I don't think Chanda and Katrina are bad either.

I am really into Katrina, chanda and Leif Shiras. Haven't heard Corina at all. Rennae Stubbs has some good insights. Overall Katrina sticks to the fundamentals and does not diss or trash talk. She rules!

Cliff and Pam shriver, mary joe fernadernas and John McEnroe are great. i hate that guy on ESPN that does coverage on like every other sport he just talks and its so annoying to watch him speak because he doesnt know what he's talking about. Sadly he's going to be at the Australian Open. it was such a relief that wasn't at the US open. the most annoying ever.

I think Katrina Adams is, hands-down, the best tennis commentator on television.

she always mispronounces players names

Actually, I have made a study of this subject, and Adams mispronounces players' names less than any other commentator.

Katrina is okay but this habit of hers really irks me. TTC should really get her some tutoring. In fairness to Katrina, Zina Garrison had the same problems on HBO. :o

i agree 100%. i've always been a big katrina supporter. i think her and chanda make an awesome team.

corine was okay, but she talked a lot and her voice was really irritating. she had some interesting viewpoints, but some of her stuff was more biased and opinionated instead of fact.

just yesterday she said that dementieva's backhand is much stronger than her forehand.

That irritated me as well. Dementieva's forehand got her to the heights she's achieved. Both Corina and Katrina said her backhand was her best shot, so they were both in the wrong for that.

The worst part is that they were saying all of this while Dementieva was pummeling an inside-out forehand repeatedly and wouldn't stop using her forehand for, oh, the entire match. :o

LOL. I like Zina a lot, but me and my sister always make fun of her for her commentary. She sounds "unpollished" which is putting it nicely.

Zina tried really hard and she actually said some interesting things that a lot of commentators were too out of touch with the women's game to even notice. I think the potential was there for her to improve but HBO and maybe Zina herself didn't want to pursue it any further.
