Here is the current top 10.

1. S.WILLIAMS

2. V.WILLIAMS

3. CAPRIATI

4. SELES

5. CLIJSTERS

6. DOKIC

7. HENIN

8. HINGIS

9. DAVENPORT

10. MAURESMO

Which player in the top ten has the worst.......
Forehand
Backhand
Volley
Serve
Movement
Mental problem (tennis I mean :p)

My list

Forehand- No one in the top ten has a bad forehand, infact, they are all incredible but my vote in this category goes to Amelie Mauresmo. She hits a heavy, powerful, topspin ball but it isn't always consistent. This shot breaks down when Amelie gets nervous.

Backhand- Toughest choice here. But i have to say Kim, only because it is a little inconsistent. When I think about her backhand during last years RG semi, it's looks just plain BAD. Once in a while, Kim misses a routine backhand badly. More so than other players.

Volley- Monica has the worst volley. Sure, she was making ALL of her swing/high volleys against Juju at Wimby quarters but she made almost NONE of the low balls at net. They either went long or wide or maybe both when Justine hit the ball waist level down to Monica.

Serve- This was between a choice of 4 players. Justine, Martina, Jelena, and Jenn. Justine often hits aces on her first serve, Martina can place her first serve very well often, and even though Jenn's serve can go off badley, it is sometimes a weapon. This left Jelena. Her serve is far from superb. Not a lot of speed or good placement, hardley any aces, and hardley any margin for error on the second serve.

Movement- So sorry Monica fans, but she gets my vote for the worst mover. She is not mobile compared to the other players. I think Davenport is a better mover than Seles as well as Jelena.

Mental- Im sorry to say that this goes to Justine. I thought that match against Serena at Berlin was her breakthrough match, but apparently, it wasnt. She struggled at Wimbledon closing out quite a few of her matches, the biggest one, her first round against Brie Rippner.

THOUGHTS??

Worst....

Forehand-Amelie Mauresmo (top-spin lobs aren't a 4hand!)

Backhand-Clijsters (way too inconsistent)

Volley-Venus (don't even get me started!) :)

Serve-Capriati (she chases the ball along the service line)

Movement-Seles (did u see her match against Hingis? balls were right in front of her and she didn't even go for them)

Mental problem (tennis I mean )-probably Henin-she can't close out matches.

No, I can't agree!!!

Kim has a better backhand than her forehand!!!
Kim's backhand is wonderful!! it's my favourite shot from her!!

no one said kims backhand isnt wonderful, only rated 9 of the current best ten players with a better bh shot...hardly discrediting ;)

Worst backhand is Kim, but only because all the other top 10 players have even better backhands... I mean, Kim's backhand is easy number 10 in the world.

I agree with Chripsy on all her choices... except the serve maybe. Jennifer's serve is almost as bad as Jelena's, and sometimes worst. Jelena serves more doublefaults, but I think she can control her first serve better. Jenn is always chasing her balls. But Jenn's serve is more effective, so on second thoughs, maybe I agree... :)

stupid thread

jd4eva
Jul 17th, 2002, 10:47 AM
stupid because the topic doesn't deserve any attention or stupid because mos tpeople seem to agree Kim has the worst backhand in the top 10?

I for oe think it's a topic that's open to debate because we always talk about the best shots and I think it's a little unique to think in the other diection and it also shows where maybe some players are lacking and thus are reducing their effectiveness.

I think a lot of people forget this is about the Top 10, Jelena has the worst serve in the top 10, but I think 99% of the Tour wish they had a serve like her.

Which player in the top ten has the worst.......
Forehand- Amilie Mauresmo (way too short)
Backhand- Kim Clijsters (everyone in the top ten has beautiful bachkands-but hers is no. 10 in the world I think)
Volley- Jelena Dokic (she is even more uncomfortable at Net than Monica. At least monica can stay at net even if she makes errors! Jelena is constantly backing up after one volley)
Serve- Jelena Dokic (I disagree that most non top tenners would like to have her serve. She definately has the worst serve in the top 30, and probably in the top 50. Her serve is average speed, but she double faults more than anyone)
Movement- Monica (no comment)
Mental problem (tennis I mean )- Amilie Mauresmo (i think the only reason more people don't say her is because she breaks down before television can show her on tv, wheras when justine breaks down, it is on international television. Amilie breaks down more, and earlier than Justine though.

Monica is not as mobile as the other players, but she's not too bad.

Remember she hits early and uses two hands on both sides which makes her look worse than she is.

I dont know whether this is slightly off the subject but i would say the worst shot in the top 10 is serena's attempts to hit a forehand slice, i have seen her try and do this many times with limited success, most of the time it just so bad timing and poor footwork that it just looks awful. Also i pretty much agree with the rest of the threads but Kim clijsters backhand isnt that bad, i mean she hasnt been playing well anyway, so when she gets her game back i am sure that will improve aswell.

I agree with you on Serena's forehand slice, sometimes she doesn't want to get low enough so she hit a full swing of a slice and the ball always ends up going long, or into the net. But about Kim Clijsters's backhand, it IS a beautiful shot but it falls short up other top tenners backhand. She still has one of the best backhands compared to the rest of the players put there.

Well what am I supposed to do? Monica is my no. 1 fave, but her movement as of late just makes me want to cry. She was doing so well until she lost to Cappy at Miami(I saw that live and was so tired by the end of it as it ended at like 12:30 AM!) Then she took some time off, and gained a bit of weight back, and has not moved well since. I can't say what I feel because I would hurt Monica's image.

Forehand: Amelie/Martina (it seems so light and powderpuffy when she hits it).

Backhand: Out of the above, Kim's. Its not bad, but watching her play, she really hits some horrible ones.

Volleys: Monica and Jennifer. They don't look comfortable at net at all.

Serve: I was tossing it up between Jelena and Jen. Thing is that Jen's serve is average, its not always off and she can generate some huge pace off it. Jelena's 1st and 2nd serves seem identical. Too flat IMO.

Movement: Monica and Lindsay have sometimes looked suspect, but they are still okay-ish. Jelena and Amelie may seem to have good movement, but in their matches they often got caught flat footed.

Mentality: Amelie moreso than Justine. Justine has built on her GS success by reaching the SFs at Wimby. Yes she was nervous, but not mentally out of it.

Forehand:-Jelena- i just think she just tries to hit it too hard and it can get sprayed

Backhand-Kim out of the top 10 everyone elses is better hers is still good i just think the others are better

Volleys-Monica/Jelena- Monica can volley its just she panics when shes at the net but we haven't really seen her volley well

Movement-Lindsay sorry its just horrible

Mental-Amelie(no comment)

My opinion on the movement of Lindsay vs. Monica is that I think they're about the same in speed, however, Lindsay SEEMS faster because she's built longer in the arms and legs. So she has more wingspan to deal with...

Forehand- Amelie Mauresmo

Backhand- for me the worst backhands, are the one-handed because I don't like one-handed backhands, so I would say also Amelie, but only because I don't like one-handed backhands. And for me, Kim's backhand is one of the best, she has a lovely shot!!!!

Volley- Monica

Serve- Jelena (but Jenn too, because her ball toss is so... crappy)

Movement- Monica (but I think before her injury in Hambourg, she was one of the best movers)

Mental- Justine, but it goes better and better after each tournaments!!

The backhand is Monica's favorite and best shot  . I guess you though Monica's backhand was a forehand (the side that can break down) because she has two handers on both side and she also a lefty.;)

Forehand - Mauresmo

Backhand - Mauresmo( its not that powerful to me)

Volley - Seles ( i just dont see her comfortable)

Serve - Hingis( If she serves a little well, she is unbeatable)

Movement - Davenport( If she moves a little faster she's unbeatable)

Mental - Henin ( She could have won more titles without choking)

That Bausch and Lomb final is so painful to think about!

Forehand. I have to say Martina Hingis, cause she canīt generate more power of it, this happens when powerful player go to that particular shot, they can find a short ball on that Hingisīs stroke. Mauresmo can handle powerful shots with it just as you said when she gets nervious she can miss it, but i think tecnically is a better stroke than Martinaīs.

Backhand. Top pick here.. but i think Dokicīs backhand can be picked, is a great shot, but contrary to what the poster said i think she hits it too flat, does not have variety with that shot, and Kim hits it with more TopSpin and better variety, she uses the lob pretty well also, you canīt judge a shot just because a particular match.

Volley. Another tough to pick here, maybe i give an even shot here for Mauresmo and Dokic both donīt come too aften to the net, maybe Mauresmo has a better volley tecnique, but neither do too much at net, they just come in when the point is almost won. Surprisingly i donīt nominate Seles here, maybe does not come to the net that much, but i have seen her making some great plays at net.

Serve. Tough call here maybe Hingis has the more attackable serve, but Jenniferīs throw of the ball is so bad, but at least when that serve is going in has a better chance than Hingis. Hingisīs second serve is an undefined serve sometimes, when she is nervious that shot does not have pace, placement or even spin, is just like a push sometimes.

Movement. Seles and no comments, no fitnes, no excecise, no nothing.....

Mental problem. A tough call here, i give an even to Mauresmo-Henin-Seles. Henin and Mauresmo well known players as "choker" when the match is almost won. And we have to mention Monica since she has all kinds of troubles on beating players ranked above her, compared to what she "was" in that department she has become weak.

Forehand- Hingis (often lands too short, needs more power, less loop)

Backhand- Mauresmo (Just because its one-handed doesn't mean a thing, its not good most of the time. Yes, she'll have some brilliant shots, but its very poor)

Volley- I'd have to say Dokic, she really looks uncomfortable there. I've seen Monica make some good net play.

Movement- Monica (two-hands can be suspect here)

Serve- I think this is probably Dokic, but very close among many players. Not Venus, Serena, Monica, Davenport, or Mauresmo---all have effective serves)

Mental Toughness- I have to say Justine, she just continues to choke, choke, choke the big ones. Mauresmo is close, but she has far less talent than Justine, Justine is choking more talent away--If that makes sense.

yeahh Hingis always puts a lot of topspins on her forehand and that's why she makes less unforced errors on her forehand side .i watched very much on her forehand and backhand and i have to say that her backhand is more powerful than her forehand .
