Every time I've heard her speak French she didn't sound to me like someone with an accent or weird expressions (à la Mary Pierce), Actually she's always sounded to me just like a native speaker. But, hell, I come from a country where whenever we speak French (whether native speakers from Wallonia or Flemish speakers) we have (according to the French) a weird accent and odd expressions. So what do I know about it after all?!

And do you necessarily need to sound french,if you're french and you talk english? My mother tongue is french and have lived 4 years in the UK. Most would say that if you listen to me speak english, you would think I'm english 100% and wouldn't think for a second I'm french

Because she knows how to speak a language without any accent.. Same for French, and I dont know for Russian.
But to answer the one who asked, she speaks Russian with Russian players. She doesn't speak perfectly so they (Safina, Myskina, Dementieva and Kuznetsova who are her Russian friends) give her Russian books..

Welcome to the global world. Where people live or work doesn't make a difference (as it used to do a decade ago) - it's how they feel and who they are that really matters. Aside from economic reasons, sports are full of "transnational persons". Tati is VERY french - I wouldn't worry about that! :p

@ borisyBACK: This depends on people's education. If one wants to study at university later, one must learn two or three foreign languages at school. Some pupils even learn four foreign languages. :) Usually, the English language is the first or the second foreign language to be taught at school.
In addition, it depends on people's age. Young people normally understand English quite well. Elderly people, on the other hand, will just speak German as a rule.

@turko: If people need to sound french when they speak english to be french, then I dare to say that Amélie shouldn't play for France either (her english is almost flawless) or that Sveta should play for Spain, as her spanish is great... and we could go on with other examples.

Exactly!

@turko: If people need to sound french when they speak english to be french, then I dare to say that Amélie shouldn't play for France either (her english is almost flawless) or that Sveta should play for Spain, as her spanish is great... and we could go on with other examples.

when Amelie talking you know she is France yes???but when Tatiana talk i askid peoples what you think this girl is,you know what they answers???one say America, one say from United Kingdoms, one say say sound little Norwegian

all i knowing is this.when i hearing peoples talk from France in English they sounding France talking English that all

if it say this is Tatiana Golovin and she from France she shoulded not sound America when she speakid:p :)

but i still love her:D

the commentators in today's match said that she's forgotten most of her russian. I've never heard her speak russian before though, doubt she does with her friends

It makes sense because she left Russia when she was a baby...

I just thought she might still speak Russian with her family at home. Many immigrants want their children to speak their mother land language. It’s what I was hoping for...

It's funny to see that some of you think Golovin isn't french. The question will never be asked in France, she's 100% french.
yes, she feels she is more french than bartoli.

Grosjean lives in US (Florida I think), Mauresmo lives in Switzerland, Henin in Monaco, and Rezai in a caravane. What are their nationality ?

75% of french players live abroad (Switzerland especially) because of the tax.... Mauresmo, Bartoli, Gasquet,Forget Noah, Escude etc., they're all sooooooo cheap. And they say they prefer Switzerland for the comfort and all, like if Paris was an unpleasant city  We all know Federer's country is boring as hell if want to do anything but ski and snwoboard

Tatiana doesn't sound French for the same reasons why Maria Sharapova doesn't sound Russian and Mary Pierce doesn't sound French.
