STUTTGART, Germany, Oct 6 (Reuters) - Jelena Jankovic was left knocking at Justine Henin's door again this week, both on court and off it.

On Saturday, Henin consigned Jankovic to her eighth defeat in the eight matches they have played, the world number one going through 7-6 7-5 to reach the final of the Stuttgart Grand Prix.

Jankovic, the world number three from Serbia, is staying in the same hotel as her great rival and a mix-up with their rooms gave her an idea on how to make the difference this time.

"It was so funny," Jankovic said after her latest defeat. "I was tired the other night and our rooms are next to each other and when I tried the door my card wouldn't work.

"I knocked and walked in and there was Justine, and I said: 'What are you doing in my room?'

"I'd got the wrong one but I thought I could go up there last night with a plate of fruit from room service, just to do something to distract her."
Joking apart, Jankovic admitted she was increasingly frustrated at her inability to beat the Belgian.

Her eight defeats so far have included the U.S. Open semi-final in 2006, the French Open semi-final this year and the final in Toronto in August.

"I don't know what to say any more," she said. "I've lost to her so many times. If she has a bad day I'll have a chance but she's always ready, always at 100 percent because she knows she has to play really well to beat me."

Hilarious

“I was quite tired and wanted to go to my room. As my room card didn’t work I knocked loudly on the door because I knew my mother was in there and she’s a deep sleeper. When the door finally opened, I just walked in – and suddenly there was Justine facing me. Taken aback I asked her what she was doing in my room and then she asked me the same thing. Then we both started laughing loudly – I had got the room numbers mixed up. When I found out that we had to play each other today I thought I might knock on her door in the evening before and pretend to be room service with a bowl of fruit – in the hope I might distract her. But there again after seeing how well she played today I don’t think it’d have made much difference.”

Indeed.
Contrary to what some posters seem to think.Tennis is not a war where you have to hate the other side. OK, Jelena has not beaten Ju yet. But it's bound to happen some day. I don't think that preferring to laugh it all off (in other terms seeing the lighter side of things in life) is detrimental to finally achieving a win over your biggest rival. I don't think that oozing frustration and spewing forth sore loser comments will ever help anyone's cause.
Jelena will have her day, even against Ju, because she's enormously talented and just has to learn how to believe in her chances right through to the last point being played
And this is coming from someone whose idol has always been Justine and who'll never ever root against her

That's an amazing little story hehe. This is much better than being a sore loser, and full of jealousy.

She's such a sweet girl.

But right now she needs some distance and perspective. She has played Justine 6 times this year and needs to be able to take some time away to analyse what she's doing and what she needs to be doing differently or better against her. she has the weapons - just doesn't yet use them in the right quantities at the right times and it's now in her head.

When Jelena is aggressive and uses her bh to take play to Justine, she does very well. She just never sustains the aggression throughout the match.

i wonder if she saw justine's messy room, or she saw anybody else inside the room, LOL LOL.

and well, justine didn't erm, wake up and return and thought that JJ's room is the bathroom either, LOL LOL.

it's kind strange, but i thought JJ has played a good match, justine was just ok, but yeah, a win is a win and i will take it.

i think JJ is too defensive, and in time to come ana may turn out to be the better player, but who knows.

Jelena will have her day. As much as I do root for Justine, I am fond of Jelena and wish her all the best. I think she would do herself a favor though if she took some time off.
