View Full Version : This week Justine proved that she is miles away from her best rivals

She beats Race No. 2 Jankovic - again.
"Future world No.1 and multiple slam winner" Ivanovic loses early.
Serena loses to Svetlana.
No. 2 Svetlana loses to Golovin (!)
The best player after Justine (nowadays) Venus loses in a small event.

-------------

There is really noone to challenge Justine now.

Having won two consecutive titles Razzano is her biggest rival now. ;)

The other girls should get their acts together during the off season.

I agree about her rivals not playing too great, but let's wait for tomorrow's result before we declare Justine head and shoulders above the rest ;)

A few bounces and she'd have had to go 3 against that model of consistency, Lena D. She has to be a favorite going into any tournament, but I don't think anyone who is even slightly unbiased is going to just hand her trophies and proclaim her the greatest player of the 00s yet.

I think Justine is a model of consistency who will be very hard to beat in the future

I think that just because venus played badly this week, doesn't mean that justine is well ahead of her. As for serena, sveta and the rest - :tape: Get it together!!1

Another week, another tournament. Shit happens, top players lose early. Justine isn't guaranteed anything. ;)

She proved it way before this week but no one can say how it'll be in 2008.
This thread is useless.

Don't you think she proved it more by winning two slams this year?
And certainly by the way she won them. ;)

How does that work when she lost to Bartoli?

Really guys, let's try and lay off the hyperbole juice.

Justine is one of the greatest players of the moment. currently most the WTA tour is below her level, but that doesn't mean she can't lose. even the greatest players lost some matches.

I'm a fan of Justine's and even I'd wait until after she's secured the Stuttgart title before making such a claim. ;)

It ain't even being the BEST player...I think she is the most CONSISTENT player this year..Justine has had some losses in big matches this year too huh. Another year, another chance at Wimby lost. So the year still wasn't quite perfect.

Well when she's playing her "BEST". it's hard for anyone to beat her these days! She has proven to be the best & consistent player in 07. The 08 season is right around the corner and it's not like the players wait a whole year to begin the new season. I don't see much happening in a couple month that will change in her game in this small time frame! Justine will take up where she left off in 07. It will be up to the players ranked behind her to step it up!:)

No doubts about that. Justine IS the standard right now and of my favourites, only Venus seems to have a chance against Juju..Serena has much much work to do, soo..

I agree. Justine is BY FAR the best and most consistent player on the tour this year. Her results speak for themselves. Schooling Serena and Venus (one right after the other) at the US Open was quite a punctuation mark on an excellent year.

Her numbers speak for themselves, too. She's 1500 points ahead of Sveta, and that's WITHOUT PLAYING the Aus Open. Like her or not (and I am one who really dislikes her), she is going to be #1 with no problems holding the top spot AT LEAST through Roland Garros '08.

She has definitely proved she is head and shoulders above the crowd this year. Next year may be different. We'll see, but for now, she is the only player who even comes close to deserving the #1 spot.

How does that work when she lost to Bartoli?

Bartoli and Safarova have more chances to beat Henin again than Jankovic IMO.:yeah:
But they aren't Justines biggest rivals so they don't really count. :(

Most of the Justine fans are realistic and don't exaggerate - "YOU" serena fans should learn a lesson from "us" :p

I think next year will be more like 2006 if Mauresmo and Sharapova come back. Sharapova was just as consistent as Justine is and Mauresmo matches Henin's talent.

Serena and Venus are way too inconsistent and injury-prone to challenge Justine on a regular basis.

Jankovic has no chance. Kuznetsova is at a huge disadvantage. Ivanovic needs a lot of improvement before she can challenge and Davenport has a mental block against Henin.
