Overall not a very good match by Justine. Of course some really good points and even some flashes of brilliance but so many easy mistakes ... the BH was a major let down today ... but the FH especially the FH cc was soooo amazing ... very deep and powerful ... that shot rescued her today ...

Jelena .. same old story .... she manages to trouble Justine for a limited time but then she can't keep her level and loses ....

I expected this kind of outcome, Jelena would have plenty of chances against Justine & yet she wastes them. shes gotta get some wins over henin if she wants to be no.1 in the world. leadng 4-1 & holding 2 break pts for a 5-1 lead only to waste them is unacceptable. hope jelena learns from this & beats henin next time.

Props to justine, she just knows when to convert on the important pts when needed to.

A rather gutless 1st set tiebreak and 2nd set by JJ, but she was holding her gut quite a bit so that shouldn't be surprising. Don't know if Justine's looked more beatable in any of their matches this year.

Anyway, Justine played well WHEN IT COUNTED, which is something JJ has been doing increasingly less over the past few months.

justine is the biggest faker there is.

This statement by schorsch is not just theory but a fact. There is no such person as Justine Henin. He/she/it is really Olivier Rochus in drag. Olivier did away with Ms. Henin years ago and is now the number one ranked player in the WTA. What a faker.

Congrats Justine....the No. 1 and that for a good reason.:worship: It's always the same with Jelena. But well, what can she do? Justine is the better player and she is always there when it really counts. Jelena can always manage to give her a lot of trouble, but falling back when she needs to step up big. She simply must go on and work harder and harder. Once again a very good attempt....but so far, it's still not enough. The task for the off-season is clear.;)

I'd have to agree with this assessment. It was a good win, and Justine fought well, but missed several opportunities to take control of the match in both the first and second sets, and let control slip away with unforced errors. I think she missed (or lost the point) on more overheads than she made, and I still can't believe someone hasn't told her about that second serve going to the exact same spot in the box on the deuce court all match long. Someone as good as Jankovic had a field day with returning the same serve over and over again- really grooving on it.

The one tactical play that I did notice that was very successful in the end was Justine, after she broke back in the second, began hitting up the middle deep a lot more, taking the angles away from Jelena to very good effect, until Henin got the short ball she was looking for. It was one of those hard to watch matches, because I just kept seeing the opportunities Justine missed. Still, great to see a couple of really great serve-and-volley plays, especially the one where she served, cracked a good backhand volley crosscourt, and had to stretch wide for a forehand volley that she got to and really did something with instead of hitting a drop or a weak volley. Good stuff.

I suspect she's not only physically burnt, but mentally as well. If those around her cared enough, they'd push for a break. Jelena's already qualified for the YEC - the smart thing is to make sure her body's in top condition.

""I don't know what I have to do to beat her, this is the eighth time she has beaten me. The first set was really tough, we were both playing well. I didn't play that well in the tie-breaker, that was a crucial part of the game". - Jelena Jankovic

Obviously she's disappointed after the match, so it's quite a natural response. But she proved, for me at least, she has a very good game plan to play Justine, and she's probably the only one who can execute that game plan, because she's so talented. Her problem is the mental toughness and the fact she's not believing in herself enough in the decisive moments against Justine.

Here's a quote from Jelena and it doesn't look good from her:

""I don't know what I have to do to beat her, this is the eighth time she has beaten me. The first set was really tough, we were both playing well. I didn't play that well in the tie-breaker, that was a crucial part of the game". - Jelena JankovicWith this mentality she will not win against Justine. She doesnt have the self belief, until she does she will be Allez's punching bag for a long time to come. :tape: :help:

Look at her record vs the top ten. That's the biggest problem.Forget about old Jelena Jankovic. If we talk about Jelena Jankovic like TOP player - we talking only about Jelena Jankovic after RG 2006. And that TOP/new Jelena Jankovic dont have any h2h problems against other worlds TOP players. She have problem only against two Belgian players in that period - Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters (and maybe she have some problems with Ana Ivanovic), but because she 7 times won one set in all that 10 loses in the row against Belgians in last 15 months, she obviously have some mental problems - but not in general - only against Belgians (and maybe against Ivanovic too). Her h2h record against all other slam winners in last 15 months (Serena 1-1, Venus 3-1, Mauresmo 1-2, Sharapova 1-0, Hingis 2-0, Kuznetsova 2-2, Davenport 1-1, Pierce 1-0, Myskina 0-1... OVERALL: she lead 12-8!) is very good.

But if you want to talking about mediocre TOP30 player between 2002 and first half of 2006 it's not seriously discussion.

in my book Myskina/Pierce/Davenport haven't been top 10 players in quite a while. yet you choose to ignore current top players like Chakvetadze against who Jelena has a negative H2H as well 1-2. with Hantuchova she is 0-0 after RG 06, and with Nadia 1-0.
if we count only ACTUAL top 10 players Justine 0-8, Kuznetova 2-2, Maria 1-0, Ana 1-4, Anna 1-2, Serena 1-1, Mauresmo 1-3 (i chose Mauresmo instead of Venus because the latter just entered top 10 and Mauresmo spent a lot of time there during the considered span), Petrova 1-0 it sums up quite a grim number 9-20. (PS we should not forget Mauresmo form this year and Nadia menthal issues :P )

it sums up quite a grim number 9-20.

And if you take out Henin, which is the person she really has issues with, it's 9-11 after RG 2006. Add in Venus, and it's 12-12.

So yes, Justine has become a bit of a thorn in her side but let's not pretend that her record against every other player is awful.

in my book Myskina/Pierce/Davenport haven't been top 10 players in quite a while.TOP players is not always current TOP10 players (Venus case is most obviously - she is TOP10 in 2007 only couple weeks - but she is TOP player much more than Chaky).

But if you insist at JJ stats only against officialy TOP10 players in last 15 months:

JJ vs. TOP5 (without Belgians): 4-5
JJ vs. TOP10 (without Belgians): 10-7
JJ vs. TOP15 (without Belgians): 17-10

It's simple and clean: no Belgians - no problems (for JJ).
