I hope she won't for her sake. Obviously her left knee isn't healed yet, and she should have followed her father's advice and rest for an undefined period till it stops hurting. She shouldn't have played the us open as well with the way she moved and might have even caused her knee more harm during that time. Now it could be the case where she caused her knee a permanent damage , if she doesn't rest in a hurry , she could cross the point of no return.

she will withdraw from zurich...but the other ones she will play. It was actually a good sign that she showed up at stuttagrt

I hope not. Losing to Kuznetsova is a very low point for her. Rest and come back strong for 2008, she clearly needs time off.

I think people need to start looking at Serena's lingering knee problem for what it is. It took eight months to rehab it after surgery which is a long time. I'm beginning to think that five years later, with swelling problems and frequent tournament withdrawals since her surgery that the knee is affecting her career much more than the outside interests Serena is often criticized for.

Another surgery at this point would cripple Serena's tournament career which is why I think she's doing everything she possibly can to postpone it. In all likelihood she will not play anymore in 2007, but who could blame her?

A fighter like Serena doesn't want to go out with injury.

Svetlana is the #2 ranked player in the world. Stop being dismissive and disrespectful towards Svetlana, who was favored to win that match.

in the rankings yes.. but shes def not the second best player on tour right now.... but hey sharapova held it all year so why not..

That said yes Serena will play YEC... If she didnt plan on playing them Im almost willing to bet money she wouldnt have played this week....

Right now Kuznetsova easily is the 2nd best player in the world. Game-wise Stuttgart-2007 is her best tournament since Miami-2006, the level of tennis she has shown is extremely high.

I think Serena must play and she must take her whippings. That and only that will allow her to return to being a great tennis player. Serena has little left but her serve, that ground game is a hot mess. She has to know, Richard has to know, and Oracene has to know her game is a mess. Maybe that is why she showed up in Stuttgart alone! This I feel is a pivotal time in Serena's life and she cannot go it alone. Wonder what she is thinking, but cannot remember anytime in either Sister's life where they showed up anywhere by themselves. Never happened. Wonder if Serena is now bucking her coaches and parents? Sounds like it.

I said it's a low point for Serena. Losing to someone as :silly: as Kuznetsova, for her, is probably embarrassing. She has high standards. I thought Serena's game would pick up, but it didn't, and I'm worried about her. I suppose she's just not match tight.

She should play at least another tournament in Europe, since she's come all the way over here she might aswell :p

Have you watched the match? Have you watched Kuznetsova v Radwanska.
Kuznetsova plays probably the best tennis in her life at the moment. She's staying aggressive but not rushing, she's hitting winners all over place, her serving game is huge, she's playing smart. She's just ON.
Radwanska had to play her best match in career only to push Kuznetsova to three sets. Serena just couldn't raise the bar, simply couldn't handle Sveta's game.

If Serena's knee was hurting, I think we would hear about it from her mouth. Sometimes the best players play stinky tennis and lose. It's not that big of a deal.

I hope Serena can regroup and focus on the rest of the 2007. Without her the atmosphere at the tournaments is not the same. ;)

A bunch of drama queens :p Let the woman speak for herself. It's Serena's first time playing in Europe during the indoor season in quite some time. Can't win these matches all the time.

She will catch with everyone come YEC,Sveta is not consistent its not surprising to see her losing to Golovin. She probably played the match of her life but she is just not consistent enough to be tough to beat.Serena lost because of lack of match play and she has noone to blame but herself for not playing enough.I still believe on a good day Sveta will be mince meat.
She should continue playing this will make her stronger and more confident.

Quit blaming her knee. She needs to get into necessary shape to take pressure off that knee. Obviously Serena is stubborn. 3 QF beatings in a row should have woke her up. Hopefully she plays out the rest of these tournaments win or lose.
