:hearts: Two of my favorite players going at it and I can finally see a match of theirs "live."

What are your thoughts on this match-up? Is Daniela playing too well at the moment? Is their close indoor H2H relevant still? Who does this surface favor? And most of all, who do you think has the most to prove here?

Thanks! :wavey:

Thoughts on this match-up: hard, crisp hitting.
Dani playing too well: Yes.
Close H2H relevant: Ultimately, no.
Surface favours: No one above the other, but Dani is playing better IMO.
Most to prove: Dani.

But Hantuchova will win.

I'm not sure if it'd be fair to call Daniela Elena's bitch, but out of any remotely top player (top 30 or so), she's the closest to being Elena's #1 bitch.

I wouldn't be surprised if Daniela won. However, this court is pretty slow and I think that favors Elena, not that either are particularly great on slow surfaces or anything. :o

In the long run, Elena has more to prove by beating her now, but Daniela needs this win to gain some coverage for the YEC race. And frankly put I'd give Daniela a better chance against Justine than Elena by far.

Once again, it's just nice to see Elena playing people I know/love. Two straight tournaments in a row. :hearts:

Elena will win for sure. She is good at countering the Davenport style of play. Hantuchova doesn't do it as well or serve as big which is even better.

Dani is definately the better player this year, and at the moment. She's also always been very good indoors. In saying that, Elena seems to have the upper hand when they play. Dani i'd say has the most to prove, ie. that she belongs in the top10 over the likes of Dementieva.

My thoughts:
Hantuchova in (easy. one easy one close) sets
Reasons:
-Hantuchova has been playing really well, has much confidence
-IMO Lena will underestimate her, I'm not saying she's not aware of Dani's form/results but Lena has beaten her recently...or won a couple of last meetings and maybe thinks she'll pull it off somehow like she did the last couple of times, but this one is likely to be a different match
(for example last year, defeated Srebotnik, had 7-0 H2H over her and then two weeks later lost to her 1 and 4)
-2002 or 3, Daniela destroyed Elena in Filderstadt, I saw the match and the gap between them was really obvious (Dani in form, Lena not that much)

But there's nothing I like more than Lena proving me WRONG

Hantuchova
2007: 7-3
2006: 8-6
2005: 10-5
2002: 16-7
41-21

Dementieva
2007: 3-2
2006: 14-9
2005: 10-10
2004: 11-8
38-29

Their respective indoor results this year and their, in my opinion, three best seasons outside this one. However, if you take away YEC from both, it turns into 41-20 for Hantuchova and 38-20 for Dementieva, which are nearly equal results indoors. Impressive.

They also are tied in their H2H indoors--
Dementieva def. Hantuchova 64 63 - 2001 Leipzig QF
Hantuchova def. Dementieva 63 62 - 2002 Filderstadt SF
Hantuchova def. Dementieva 36 76(4) 76(6) - 2002 Zurich 2R
Dementieva def. Hantuchova 75 63 - 2003 Paris Indoors QF

Although it's been four years since they've played indoors against each other. I :hearts: stats.

The problem is that one of them will play Henin in next round so this match really has no significant meaning for the rest of the tournament. Elena is defending QF from last year and because of the new ranking points system she would add several points if she beat Daniela, but that's not worthy much. If Daniela beat Elena this QF would barely make one of her top 17 results. Surely it's an interesting match and whoever wins will be happy, but I don't see either of them beating Justine. If it was Kuznetsova or Ivanovic instead of Henin things would be more interesting.

If Lena plays like she did against Mauresmo she will win exploiting Hantuchova's poor movement. But if she let Daniela dictate the game she could be blown off the court (unless Hantuchova chokes, of course).
I don't know, it's a toss-up.

I think dementieva is better than hantuchova. Dementievas match against Mauresmo was so good from lianá. so I think elena will win against daniela.:)

I think Elena will win it but you never know. She leads 8-3 in H2H, I think it will be quite a close battle like 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-2.

Lena handles Dani's game well. 8-3 is pretty solid.
