Anyone know what tournament this is from? I've never seen Venus play so good on clay :worship: It's a nice reel of highlights.

that's not even close to their best though. I feel their best matches are the 99 US Open and the 00 US Open semi finals. Just brillant tennis two years in a row ;)

It's Warsaw 06. It was Venus' second match back after injury.

That can't be right. Must have been Warsaw. Anyway, on clay, I'm really surprised this was last year. What potential Venus still has to challenge for Roland Garros. Just amazing.

What happened was Venus beat Hingis here 4-6 7-5 6-4 in Warsaw evening their H2H. Then, Hingis beat Venus in Rome the next week 0-6 6-3 6-3 taking the advantage once again!

Sure it was a great 120+ unforced errors fest by both players combined.

High in entertainment value, and that's what makes a match great to me. Oh, and when Venus wins. ;)

That clip brought back sooooooo many memories. There were a lot more great shots than that, but it was overall a pretty dodgy match until the third when Venus was going for broke. Dodgy or not, it had tons and tons of drama and one of Venus' best and most important wins in the past couple of years. Simply stunning. Just one reason why she means so much to me.

This is, IMO, their best match...the 2000 USO SF.

Rome 2006 was much cleaner from both, and Venus played better since she made half of the errors that she produced in Warsaw.. sadly it was not enough to win

Venus' defense was incredible, and the quality from both players was out of this world!

Did you see Hingis's face after Venus hit that dtl backhand winner right after Hingis's smash? She was like "Are you serious?!"

That was a good match......Hingis got her revenge though a week later in Rome when she won 0-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Venus was playing good in Rome...
sadly.. she was overwhelmed by the way she was dismissing hingis and therefore
took a vacation

 Venus did let Hingis back into the match a little there. :(

Their three best matches are definitely US Open 1999, Wimbledon 2000 and US Open 2000 though.

True classics :yeah:

took a vacation:lol: now that is classic Venus. that time she came back from vacation a little too late.

thank Goodness, she is doing this a lot less lately.

she seems to just get bored when she is winning too easily. rather than just closig it out, she goes on a little walkabout, let's the match get interesting and her sufficiently behind and then and only then starts kicking butt again. like, oh i forgot, let me finish this off now.

sometimes she waits to late to rejoin the match. i can think of a few of those.

The Warsaw match was so ugly. :o Both have played much better than that. Rome was better, but still not great. Venus has shown better clay tennis in the past.

I might be mistaken but Hingis made another choke here... 3-3 5-5 my gosh ... :|

But anyway it was really a great match if you want all sorts of hits, really nice not your usually hitting the ball hard, it was hard and with weird direction, spin, etc. nice.

p.s. lol it could have been a choke or a huge deficit in gas... she was like out of power in the end while Venus was just like starting to get pumped, she got pumped so much it looked like with her adrenaline she pulled a muscle in one of her shots! Oh Martina losing gas in the end again..

Someone called this match being "great" obviously leaving out the real fact that this match was a complete mess.

Sure classic Venus, she always does this in purpose, her oponnent has nothing to do with this , Zillions of errors

It was a choke. Hingis led 6-4 3-0, then had match point (1 or two) at 5-4 in the second with Venus serving and could not close it out. Then in the third set with Venus cramping all over the place barely moving she could not put a decent ball in play, either missing, making double faults or hitting so short that even Venus with no movement was punishing trying to win the points outright.
I remmember someone posting afterwards that this was probably Hingis´s most embarrasing lost or something like that... refeering to the complete choking job.

The highlight reel sure looks good, but it leaves out the 2 dozen lame misses Hingis hit in a rare choke from her.

Venus's fight was incredible, but Hingis got her revenge quickly in a better played match. Now that's a rivalry.
