A schoolgirl who had a lesbian relationship with a leading female tennis coach when she was 13 has told a court how she was "threatened" into having the affair.
Tennis coach in court for 'sex with pupil, 13' (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml;jsessionid=TGQS0WO4JFAQRQFIQMGCFFOAVCBQ UIV0?xml=/news/2007/10/01/ntennis101.xml) Former professional player Claire Lyte - the Lawn Tennis Association's young coach of the year in 2001 - is alleged to have seduced the girl when she was her coach between 2005 and 2006 in Loughborough.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/graphics/2007/10/01/ntennis260.jpgClaire Lyte has received an official warning about her closeness to her pupilsThe alleged victim's mother walked in on Lyte and her daughter having sex in the teenager's bedroom after a tennis tournament, the Liverpool Crown Court jury has heard.

Lyte, 29, a former Wimbledon competitor who gave up professional tennis after an injury, has denied five counts of unlawful sexual activity with the girl.

Giving evidence in Lyte's trial today, the girl, now 15, said she "never wanted to do any of it" and was scared her tennis career would suffer if she told anyone.
"(Lyte) told me what to do," the girl, who cannot be named, said.
"She said if I was to say anything to anybody she would hurt me and she would stop my tennis completely and would tell the academy to get rid of me."
David Mason, for the defence, asked the girl why she had not spoken about Lyte's alleged threats when her mother walked in on the pair.
He also questioned why she initially lied to police in her first interview by saying the incident in October 2005 was a one-off.
"I was still terrified of what would happen," the girl said. "I wanted to carry on with my tennis, it was always what I wanted to do."
Lyte, of Shirley, Solihull, West Midlands, was given an official warning by bosses at the LTA academy about her closeness to the young girls under her pupilage in 2005.
After the girl's mother walked in on the pair, Lyte remained the girl's coach and continued to attend tennis tournaments with the girl and share accommodation for almost a year afterwards.
Lyte's defence says the allegations had been manufactured by the victim's "pushy and ambitious" mother because she was upset about her daughter's time at the tennis academy coming to an end.
The case continues.

One of the newspapers here quoted Claire Lyte as being number 101 in the world at one point but 1001 would have been closer to the mark. She only played one Wimbledon qualifying match so "Wimbledon competitor" is stretching it a bit. It will be interesting to see what the outcome is.

*IF* this is true - don't you find it odd that the mother and daughter kept it quiet for TEN MONTHS and that the parents let Lyte keep on being her coach and travel to tourneys etc with their 13 year daughter after supposedly knowing what was going on between the two. If you walked in on omeone having sex with your 13 year old, would you let them keep training your kid for 10 months longer? That bit seems "fishy" (no pun intended) to me!

I don't think I believe the girl either. She was like 'I knew I had to continue having sex with her because I wanted to continue my tennis'.

Oh BS, you could've just found another coach. Like she could get rid of her in the academy, what is she going to say? "Oh, she's really bad, get rid of her." I think they'll see her play themselves and make a decision based on that.

it's stupid stuff like this that takes away from legitimate claims of sexual molestation.

I agree @ above. This just sounds like bollocks. At best it should be a civil case not criminal. Compensation only. Smacks of vengeful pushy mom harboring illusions about her darling daughters greatness.

Between. this and that bloody 'Maddie'. We have become a nation of hysterical hypocritical pharisees. Millions murdered in Darfur and we indulge a melodrama about some blue-eyed blonde girl.

There is indeed oppression, rape, genital mutilation, and other serious crimes in the world against women and children that need urgent attention. These need to be taken seriously - but the politicians do sh!t all except hand wringing.

Yet this stuff about lesbian tennis coach gets lotta exposure. Its just tabloid porn. That's the real sleazy thing about this case.. The fact that it is a STORY pimped by the newspapers. Isnt it what a lot of straight men apparently get off on? Dont go there...

She was found guilty -

LONDON (Reuters) - One of the top female tennis coaches was convicted on Thursday of molesting a 13-year-old girl student.

Claire Lyte, 29, was found guilty on four of five counts of sexual activity with the child who was a pupil at the specialist LTA Academy. The girl, now 15, cannot be named for legal reasons.
During the two-week trial, the court heard how Lyte had been caught naked and having oral sex with the girl by the girl's mother.
The mother allowed Lyte to continue coaching her daughter because she believed Lyte, who was named young coach of the year by the LTA in 2001, was a good tennis instructor.
Lyte taught the girl for 10 more months. The girl was then dropped as a pupil because she was not deemed to be a good enough tennis prospect and the mother went to the police, the court heard.
Lyte argued she was the victim of a vindictive mother who had made up the allegations, but the jury at Liverpool Crown Court rejected that argument. She will be sentenced in November.
The case offered insights into what was described as the pushy and ambitious world of junior tennis.
Lyte, once ranked in the top 500 in the world, had to abandon her tennis career after a wrist injury.

her tennis career would suffer LOL what career?

This stuff only happens in the states were everyone is so over obsessed and over sensitive about abusement of any kind.

i promise you that this case would be 100x worse if she were a dude. double standard anyone?

Considering how many male coaches have had sex with underage female students, and we hear nada, zip, zilch being done about it?

Double-standard, indeed.

It's criminal either way and should be treated as such.

Tennis Coach Guilty Of Child Sex
Updated: 18:45, Thursday October 18, 2007

A tennis coach is facing jail after being found guilty of molesting a 13-year-old student.

Claire Lyte convicted29-year-old Claire Lyte was convicted of four out of five counts of sexual activity with the child.

The victim was her pupil at the Lawn Tennis Association Academy.

The jury at Liverpool Crown Court failed to reach a verdict on the final count.

During a two-week trial, the court heard that Lyte, of Shirley, Solihull, West Midlands, was found with the girl naked and having oral sex when the child's mother returned home early from a party.

The mother said she did not report the incident because she was terrified of what would happen.

But ten months after the pair were discovered in bed, the girl's mother found out the relationship was still going on and decided to go to the police.

Lyte, a former top 500 player, claimed the allegations were invented by the child's "ambitious" and "pushy" mother, who was bitter that the youngster would not make the grade as a professional tennis player.

After the verdict, Lyte broke down in tears outside the court and was comforted by her parents.

The judge told her it was "inevitable" she would be sent to jail when she is sentenced on November 2.

Lyte was considered to be a promising coach and told the jury it was former British Number One Jeremy Bates who offered her a job at the LTA Academy.

In a statement her employer said: "This has been a very difficult time for all involved and our sympathies have been with the victim and her family throughout the ordeal.

"The LTA has worked closely with Merseyside Police throughout this case assisting them with their inquiries wherever possible in order to ensure the case reached resolution.

"We intend to continue working with the police to help us further develop our procedures in child protection."

The LTA had repeatedly warned Lyte to make her relationships with the girls she taught more professional.

It has restructured its youth academy scheme since the allegations about Lyte became known.

Exactly. Like in America when a female teacher had sex with a 13 yr old and her lawyer's fantastic winning argument was that she was "too cute to go to prison"- it worked, she got community service instead. It's such a sexist image to believe that paedophiles are women.
