no she didn't, she didn't win a wta tournament in 94 and 95.
Monica won one in every year she played tournaments but 88 when she played only 3 and was not a pro yet(well I think that)

You're right, Irma. She was 14 years old and played two or three tournaments as an amateur.

1989- 1 title
1990 - 9 titles
1991 - 10 titles
1992 - 10 titles
1993 - 2 titles
1994 - DNP
1995 - 1 title
1996- 5 titles
1997 - 3 titles
1998 - 2 titles
1999 - 1 title
2000 - 3 title
2001 - 4 titles
2002 - 2 titles (so far!)

martina is not true, she got her first title in 1996 and played wta events before that.
monica seles didn't get a title in her 1st year (88), but after that every year (apart form 1994, of course).

so kim might be the only one who properly fits your definiton

What about Lindsay? Anyone have stats on her

Brαm
Jul 16th, 2002, 03:26 PM
No, Lindsay didn't win a title in her 1st year(s?) on the tour.

Kim seems to be the only player who's won at least 1 WTA singles title in every year of her career :D

And Justine? She won her first WTA tourney she played at 16?

Hasn't she won every year a tourney?

Fedcup, she didn't win a tourney in 2000.

I'm surprised Justine didn't win a tourny every year... Kim's the best! :D:bounce:

Justine was plagued with injuries that year. It stopped her progress for a while...

But Monica was not a pro in 1988, so that does not count.

Sandra Cecchini won at least 1 title per year during a large periode of time. I don't remember the year interval, but it was quite impressive for a player who was never a top ranked one.

Also: Casanova is out because she didn't win any in 2001 and this year.

Dinara didnt play any WTA events until Estoril 2002

if you counting her as playing
events in 2001, then Kim also isnt eligible as she didnt win any in 1998 :p

She did play Madrid and Moscow in 2001, but she didn't get into the maindraw.
Are we only counting the maindraw appearances?

neither did Dinara, but satellites and challengers are on their record. Dinara wasnt a pro either in 2001.

OK, if we don't count qualifying rounds, then Dinara joins Kim. :)

Kim is the only eligible one here.

Maria Sharapova did play WTA events in 2002 and didn't win any of them.
Dinara Safina did play WTA events in 2001 and didn't win any of them.

Kim did not play WTA events in 1998. She played her 1st WTA event EVER in 1999, the year she won her 1st title :)

Manuela Maleeva-Fragnuiere perhaps?
No she turned pro in 1982..but I don't believe she won a title till 1984.

Plus no titles in 1986 and 1990.

I had no idea this stat would seem to be so rare  Go Kim! :D

Navratilova qualifies IF you are talking pro career (75-94) in both singles and doubles. She played on the tour in 73 and 74 as an amateur and won in 74 anyway. You also have to overlook the Eastbourne appearance in 2002 in singles and the comeback years in doubles.

Perhaps winning tournaments too young is not conducive to winning slams. We'll see.

Maybe. Steffi turned pro in 83 but didn't win a title till 86, when she was already no. 3 in the world. We know what happened after that. :worship:
