Hingis has missed two Slams this year

Former world number one Martina Hingis has refused to rule out appearing at the US Open next month despite continuing injury problems.
The WTA indicated last week that the Swiss star had not submitted an application to play at Flushing Meadows.

The recovery of my ankle injury is going satisfactorily and I can more or less play tennis twice a day

But Hingis maintains she has been invited to play and may yet be fit enough to take part.
"I've chosen to leave things alone because I don't want to set a fixed date for my return to competitive tennis," Hingis told Swiss newspaper Sonntags Zeitung.

"But the possibility that I can play in Flushing Meadows is realistic enough.

"I still have over five weeks for preparation and surely there is a possibility I can play in New York.

"The recovery of my ankle injury is going satisfactorily and I can more or less play tennis twice a day."

Hingis is still recovering from the ankle surgery that caused her to miss both the French Open and Wimbledon.

She has also been forced to withdraw from several build-up tournaments in North America because of the surgery.

I hope she plays as I like it when all the top players are entered and healthy during the slams. Although I wouldn't be surprised if she withdraws from the US Open.
