One of my friends commented to me that I was a quiet guy who doesn't talk much when we went out last week. I told him that I was more of an observer rather than a talker, and I like to listen to others talking. He proceed to call me "You're nuts"

But to the serious point - do you like talkative guys / girls? Or the silent type? (Note: When I say "talkative", I mean those who can become a football radio broadcaster those type - talking until they are asked to stop or their throats become dry)

If I know what's good for me, I better answer "yes". :scared:

But they've got to be smart and fairly rational; I don't enjoy talking about the same bullshit over and over and over and...

I don't mind them, as long as they know when to shut up.

No, because I'm talkative and quiet and/or timid guys provide the balance. :)

Depends on the situation/conversation sometimes, but I prefer when others talk more than I do. Despite all of my long-winded posts I really do prefer listening than talking.

Although I do hate it when I have something I want to talk about, but the person I'm talking to glazes over it and resumes talking about what's "more important." Lame.

That depends on the subject of our conversation. I voted "no" though, as my experience with talkative people, mainly girls because I have yet to meet a really talkative guy, has been more negative than positive. They mostly talk about their life, so you understand how boring it gets after a while cause I really couldn't care less about their problems. But if they have something interesting to say I am all for it. My she-cousin and also one of my friends are like that, they talk a lot but very rarely I am bored with them as they usually are very funny. It gets worse only when I wish to say something myself, often I can't because they begin talking about something utterly different before they let me say what I wish.

Some talking is fine, but when it turns into a constant whining noise infesting your very existance, time to get rid ;)

Well, they need to be able to hold a conversation ;) But they must know to shut up as well.

I am talkative, but surely know how to listen to people... So I suppose -and I hope- I don't fall into the "radio commentator who can't shut up" category

My best friend is like that sometimes, when she's on you can't stop her until she's finished :rolls: but she's a very good listener and (almost) always makes sense

There are people I like who talk a lot and people I like who talk not that much. What matters much more to me is what a person does say when they do talk. A combination of openness, humility, humour, self-awareness, thoughtfulness and good taste does it for me.

I'm quiet so I'd prefer someone who's louder but I can't stand people who talk BS just to hear the sound of their own voice.

i was going to post this.

i think talkative on a girl is attractive, as long as she's not dumb and/or has an annoying voice.

I talk A LOT. So I guess I need someone who can hold my conversation, but at the same time it can't be someone who just constantly talks or else, well, it just will be a word-fight forever.

Ah, I seem to remember a certain male holding his own in the talkative wars. :tape:

My friends usually say: "If you're bored or don't know what to do, call Ben!"
I talk a lot, and sometimes it's really stupid.
Exception: in the morning. Don't even try to talk to me in the bus: I'm still half asleep.
Although, I know how to listen to people, sure. ;)

I like talkative people. Don't like to get the feeling I'm talking alone.

No. I like a person who can shut the fuck once in a while.

My favorite time is to have 2-3 friends over chillin on our labtops and we'll talk to each other sparingly.

Lots of times they have nothing to talk about or they talk about the same problem over and over again.
I hate the opposite though especially on the phone.

How da hell is someone gonna call me and have nothing to talk about.
I prefer a middle ground.

I'm not a big talker at all and I think because of that people find me boring as hell. I'm more someone who listen to the people. Even being in a group with people talking and talking, I can stay for hours ( maybe I exaggerate a little bit ) quiet as hell.

I'm a big talker...but I like to think I know when to shut the hell up when it's appropriate. Most of my friends are big talkers too...we're a loud group, but it works fine for us :).

I think there is a HUGE difference between talking a lot and being afraid of silence...

Depends on my mood. Sometimes it's fun to go out with a talkative person, especially if he/she is funny and has good stuff to say. Having said that, some people really go overboard. I have a female friend (duh) who likes to steer the conversation wherever she wants to. If someone asks her a question and she doesn't like it, she just skips it and talks on whatever she wants.

Most of the time though, I'll take a talkative person over someone who has nothing to say. It doesn't really have to do with being introverted or shy. Lots of shy people have a lot of things to say on a range of stuff, but the point is to make them comfortable enough in a social setting. I hate it however when I always have to open topics, and everytime the person just doesn't have anything to say. I chatted once with a guy like that, and he actually wanted me to call him then. Bitch, please.

as long as I can get a few words in edgewise its cool. if yah just go on & on never pausing even when the listener indicates a desire to add a thought or 2 ...

it can be one sided, but i prefer conversations to lectures.

I don't care as long as they talk with purpose . Some people talk for the sake of talking. And unfortunately empty vessels make the most noise. I'm more of a quiet person, so I guess being around talkative people balances out the ying and yang. Plus, it brings out the more talkative side of me.
