Who is closer to reaching their full potential.

Personally I feel Venus has more things to work on than Serena does, which maybe translates into more room for improvement.

For example, Venus has to work on that second serve, and her forehand more. These are the two areas I thought she had improved in the past two years but she seems to have digressed.

I feel that there is no glaring weakness in Serena's game at the moment, just little things here and there, such as improving her net play and so forth.

What do you all think?

I wrote about this very topic on another tennis board awhile back. This was before the French. At that time I had a difficult time deciding even though Serena was definitely playing better. But now I agree with you, Serena is definitely closer to her peak than Venus. This could be as Richard stated talent. Also it is a very personal thing. Venus' serve is a curious topic of discussion with me. She knows that there is a problem with it. Hell she knew years ago. Venus practices with the best server in the WTA, are their games so unalike that nothing can be transferred. Why hasn't she hired a number of coaches to help her? Then again maybe she has and it's just one of those things. Plus she has been winning the way it is. But now the dynamics have changed, will this motivate her to seek help? Since I am asking questions one more. How can you know a persons potential?

I'm not so sure Venus realises her serve is a weakness... she speaks of it like it isn't a weakness. Her second serve definitely needs a lot of work.

I think fitness plays a large part in how Venus is playing. Last summer she played great. She took out Seles, Davenport, Capriati & Serena, all in 2 sets. She looked strong & fast. She was hitting the ball harder. This year she's does not look as strong, she looks really slight. I think because of injuries, she has not been training as she should. Starting at the Australian Open where she got injured, then without much rest to heal. She went on that 5 week tour. Not something she's used to. again getting injured. I hope next year she goes back to her old schedule. I think the WTA put pressure on her to play more. She caught a lot of flack last year because she did not play the indoor tour.

Thanks Roseie
for mentioning something that has been puzzling me for what...7 months now.

I'm i the only one who has noticed Venus does not look HAPPY playing these days?..... apparantly not..

Venus :hearts: ,Please go back to your old schedule......
SOD the '#1' ranking and anything esle so wholly inconsequential to you ... like pressure from outsiders.

Venus has already fulfilled her potential.

Serena hasn't fulfilled her potential yet. I see a few more slams in her yet!

You would love that Vanity wouldnt you?
But then, you underestimate Venus. Because of your hatred for her, the word objectivity is foreign to you. Just a question, do you believe that Venus would have beaten anybody else across the net at Roland Garros and Wimbledon?
As i said, you dont know the meaning of being objective.
