I'm not sure if this has been posted already.

Don't count on Davenport to request a wildcard for the tier 1 & Grand Slam tournaments any time soon. The WTA website shows that although Lindsay Davenport is currently ranked #234 in the world she has a special ranking of #12.
I guess since alot of the top players did not enter Bali this week Davenport was able to get a spot in the main draw.

I thought the WTA eliminated special rankings for all players, I guess the special ranking rule is still applicable if a player takes a maternity leave from the tour.

Special ranking can't be used for seeding purposes any more. But it still allows players enter tournaments.

wow. That's a terrific line up for Stuttgart. Another possible Serena - Justine fight.

Lindsay would get a wildcard even if she couldn't get in with her ranking to any tournement in the world.

I knew she had a special ranking, but I didn't know that WTATour would list in the upcoming events like that.
That's pretty cool :D
Hopefully Linds enters at least another tournament before the end of the season though.

Hopefully, Justine's asthma problems won't be an issue by then, but if they are, I fully expect Justine to pull out.

the chances are pretty low since Serena has been on the entry list for Stutgart the last 3,4 (?) years now and never showed up after her debut in whenever that was... 98?

I wonder if this is truly a full fledged comeback from Davenport if she'll avoid the red clay and French Open like she did in '06.

Given that she wants to play the Olympics, my guess is it's a full-fledged comeback. Regardless, I'd be surprised to see her play the French Open. No disrespect to Lindsay, but she doesn't stand a chance of winning there, so why risk an injury so close to Wimbledon. I'm guessing she'll play Amelia Island, then give it a rest and train for the grasscourt season. I like Lindsay, but can't really see her contending at the Grand Slams -- at least not in the way she contended before. But maybe I'm wrong.

It would be interesting if she opted to play Paris as a nice bon voyage to her career -- the way Connors did his last year on the tour.

All in all, you have to admire Lindsay for coming back so soon after a C-section. It goes to show that she loved tennis after all. I used to get frustrated with some of her comments that suggested she couldn't wait to be through with the game and everything that came with it. Lindsay, Venus, Serena and Capriati really gave the U.S. women something to cheer about. On reflection, they were probably the greatest group of U.S. players to play the game at one time -- all of the capable of -- and actually -- winning grand slams at the same time.

I would not even see Lindsay play in Amelia. I see herself returning for just

2 events in Australia
1 event in Japan
1 event outdoor in America
2 events on UK grass
1 event in Olympics
2 events on US hardcourts

she won´t return for more than 10 events

Maybe even less than that. When Lindsay was planning on playing less in 07 she was only going to play 8 events but I wouldn't think she'll play more than ten either. She'll also have to play or make herself available for fed cup and if she makes the cut off the Olympics as well.

SR is definetely NOT eliminated - the seeding coming from having a SR hs been eliminated, but heaps of players (well ok, not heaps, but quite a few) have SRs at the moment. ;)

Bovina and De Beer off the top of my head. I know I've seen a few more - but generally they are playing challengers. :p So I know you aren't following the challenger tourneys. :p

Oh, and didn't Alicia have one when she came back? :p
